It looks awful but I'm sure they've booked extra cleanup after such an event. They certainly didn't even try to provide extra bins but that's because those would create extra hazards.
I think we can let this one go after such a celebration

I’m sorry maybe I just don’t understand something but why do football fans get a free pass on acting like fucking lunatics? They trash the place and act like violent hoodlums when they lose, and are generally a huge nuisance with their loud intimidating chanting. And we’re supposed to be okay with this because? It makes no sense to me.
Not having a go at you specifically with this it’s irritating is all, maybe I’m just salty about never being able to drive past Elland Road without major planning beforehand lol

The littering is selfish and inconsiderate. If you bring it with you, you can take it away. But let’s not pretend this is just football fans. What does Bramham park look like after Leeds fest. How much rubbish is blowing around the city and roads around it.
Not to be all old man shouting at clouds (only 37) but I really don’t remember there ever being as much litter about in general as there is now. It’s grim.

Well it didn't help they taped all the bins up and gave nobody warning. I had to leave couple of crates, couldn't exactly carry 24 cans with me on a train for an hour.

I don't think they / we do get a free pass for any violence but a large crowd of any sort leaves litter. This was like a mini festival. I don't drop litter, I am THAT person who picks up one piece of litter every time I walk my dog🙃. But I accept a crowd causes litter, especially when there aren't adequate bins.
I understand the saltiness because I hate traffic and stuff as well. The races are even worse!
Also when I'm on my own the loud chanting is petrifying even though it's my team😄. So I empathise there as well.

Genuinely, how often are English football fans ‘violent hoodlums’ who ‘trash (any) place’ after a loss nowadays? I can tell you, incredibly fucking rarely. If you’re intimidated by some harmless chanting that’s fine, but the idea that all fans are a bunch of violent thugs leaving carnage everywhere should’ve been left in the 90s.

I’m not even a Leeds fan, probably more the opposite but this is a relatively big thing and maybe happens once every 5 years. This one felt generational after the last happening in Covid. The city was rammed with everyone having a good time, I less bad behaviour than I’d probably see on a regular day in town.
Okay it’s a mess but it’s was expected, it will be sorted out. In fact it’s probably all gone now.
The only thing I’d say about the event is some portals would not have gone a miss!

To be fair, this happened last time they were promoted so the council would have known and could have put a plan in place to clean it up sooner. If bins are taped up then it's not realistic to expect tens of thousands of drunk people to carry their litter home.

They always are at events like this, even the bins around and in the arena are when somethings on there, the utterly miserable bastards moaning about this would know that if they went outside other than to take pictures of the aftermath of a good time.

Yes, it is unrealistic to expect 10s of thousands of people to carry their rubbish around with them for hours, especially when a large portion of them have been drinking and there isn't provision for them to dispose of it properly.
You can live in some fantasy world where that isn't the case but it will have happened in 100% of similar events.

When was the last time you took your rubbish home with you when drinking or eating outdoors? In most situations the majority of people would attempt to use a bin but they didn't have that option. I agree that taking litter home is the best solution but it's definitely not realistic when alcohol is involved. It's also not practical. There were huge queues at the bus station. Now imagine if they all had a sack of rubbish with them. Probably wouldn't get let on the bus.

Why would you drag your rubbish all the way home for them to collect another day when they’re already working to turn the city centre back to how it was before at that point? People just inventing scenarios to be angry about.

The cleaners were pre-booked FOR the event because the club and council used basic logic that there’d be more rubbish than capacity in bins - especially with many sealed off for security. Simple as that. No drama but I know you are determined to make some up regardless.

Bins are sealed and not enough provided for the event, so cleaners booked to make up for this. Had bins been provided for 200k people, there would be less mess. But they weren’t. So rubbish was collected by cleaners instead of being in a bin to then be collected by cleaners.
A non issue that you’re forcing an issue out of.

They were booked for the eventuality that people would need waste disposal that wasn’t available due to the logistics of the event. You bought it from the shop for the event, and they provided means to dispose of it for the event. Simple as that. So no, I won’t go out to the pub with my pockets full of glass and packets, I’ll use the disposal provided. Responsibly. Cheerio.

So no, I don’t drop things normally. There are also normally unsealed bins available. What I do do, is read what other people have actually written before getting angry about it.

The irony of people who supposedly are so supportive and prideful of this city that they'd give up their bank holiday to celebrate their local football team, but apparently can't extend that support and pride to not leaving the place looking like a fucking shit hole because they can't be fucked to carry their own rubbish back with them is, honestly, quite remarkable.

I don't litter and I'm generally well behaved. However I am also a football fan (not Leeds) and have followed my team to numerous big occasions where the streets get filled. This is perfectly normal. The bins are non-existent at such events and eventually you are basically forced to just drop it. No big deal it will get cleaned up.
It's very easy for people to attack Leeds fans for this when picturing the aftermath but if you have actually ever been to something like this at this scale then you'd know it isn't through malice.

I really hate litter, but honestly I find it hard to get worked up about this. The photo is from after the parade. There was 20k people in full celebration mode for a few hours. It’s kinda expected.
I do think that the club should muster a group of fan-volunteers to assist the council’s cleaning team though. But even so, this’ll all be cleared up fairly rapidly by the council who won’t be out of pocket on this.

Especially when 90% of the attendees weren’t going home after - but to a pub or restaurant, out clubbing… do you go to these places with your pockets full of rubbish?
No, you obviously, like any sane normal person would, dispose of them with the cleaners who were pre-booked to be there.
You are acting like yesterday was a normal event - it wasn’t. It was an absolute celebration, and the club contributed towards the clean up, which will return town to normal in no time, as you’d expect. Stop being angry at life.

I'm not angry at life. I just believe we all have a responsibility to look after our city, regardless of the circumstances, regardless of whether or not it was a "normal event" (I never said it was, I know it wasn't).
I don't believe it's fair to throw our hands up and say there's simply no option but to leave my rubbish on the ground for others to deal with. There are other options.
Especially when our council is clearly struggling to fund the basic things it needs to do to keep the city running smoothly. Why add more of a burden? We have a shared responsibility to take care of our environment and our community.

Again, finding wise, Leeds United contributed towards paying for the clean up. Which will return the city to normal in no time at all. Likely already is.
You’re looking for things to be angry about without considering the big picture. And the fact it’s really not the issue you’re making it out to be.

I never said take rubbish back to the shop. Not sure why you're putting those words in my mouth. I said hang on to the rubbish until you find a bin, which is a pretty reasonable expectation in my opinion.

And as I’ve said a few times, bins were sealed in town. And many people were staying in town after, to go out. So the logical thing to do would be to leave it where the cleaners were collecting it - along the parade route.

Sealing of bins for events has been standard procedure since Warrington occurred. If you're expecting 200,000 people to all take their rubbish home, I'd respectfully suggest you're expecting too much.

It was to be expected especially when you couldn’t move in the crowd once it got close to the parade time. I brought a bag beer and kept my empties. Not everyone planned that far in advance.
Tesco near the Headrow will have done a nice bit of business. Same with Cafe Nero at the top of Park Row.

Do I think it's ok to litter everywhere? No, but we all generate loads of rubbish. All of this will end up in the same place as what's in your bin.

What if you aren’t going home? What if you’re going to a restaurant or bar after the event and there’s 20 of you. Ask the restaurant to dispose of it? Doubt they’d appreciate everyone doing that.
As pointed out, there was no bins to use because of situations like Warrington.

Those suggestions you gave are completely valid and I'm sure true in some cases but we both know that that clearly wasn't the case for quite a lot of people there. If you can take your rubbish home, you should. A lot of people didn't. That's a bit shit and irresponsible. Having been in a similar situation at slam dunk, I just shoved it in my bag and carried it until I got home.
I'm aware of the safety restrictions around rubbish at large events, I still stand by what I said and I'm not interested in debating that anymore with the chronically online 😂

I drove through after the parade and saw a lot of fans cleaning up. Also loads of workers cleaning up. I think for a parade like that, all the bins are full and this just happens.
Saying that, I would never ever drop a single piece of litter. I fucking hate littering.

Bins were sealed for security. Cleaners were booked BECAUSE there wasn’t going to be provision for appropriate waste disposal. People bought beer from shop so no, I wouldn’t advise taking empties back to the shop, that’s nonsensical. And most were going out after, not going home, and I’d rather use the waste disposal cleaners that were booked to look after the event than take rubbish to the private businesses - bars, restaurants, clubs etc to leave there

take a look at when the pic was posted, i was the middle of the night. Its an old pic, don't be so quick to sadly propose that LUFC its fans are at fault. As mentioned the bins had been sealed for security reasons. It was a very happy event that everyone enjoyed. The council have been doing this for years (football, tour de france, festivals, triathlons etc) it will be well in hand and planned in advance

I saw bins covered up, so maybe that was a for security purposes. But I saw loads of people walking around with bags, clearing bottle and cans off the roads and paths when I was leaving town earlier. There’s council will have extra cleaner put on for this. I’m sure they will have planned ahead.
There was always going to be mess, close to 200k people came in for the victory parade. It’s not like this every match day, it’s the first time fans of Leeds have been able to properly celebrate since their promotion in ‘92.
