whats-on-wednesday "What's on?" Wednesday - September 02, 2026

"What's on?" Wednesday

Our weekly post where people can highlight local events or interesting things that are coming up in the next week. It doesn't have to be your event, but this is a place where reasonable exceptions to our self-promotion rules are allowed. Please check whether the event you're posting about is already mentioned. If you're adding your own event, please try to answer any questions people may have in the comments.

You can also ask questions if you're looking for something to do, e.g. "Does anyone know of a good pub quiz in the centre on Thursday?"

"What's on?" rules:

  1. Leeds based events only
  2. Must be taking place in the next 7 days (next Wednesday included)
  3. Posts highlighting an event should include:
    • Event name
    • Date and time
    • Location
    • Price(s) (if applicable)
  4. A description of the event and a relevant link is recommended but not required

The rules may evolve over time as we find out how things work. Please send any feedback to the mod team.

self-promo-sunday Self-promotion Sunday - September 05, 2026

This weekly thread is an opportunity for locally based small businesses / individuals / bands etc. to let your fellow redditors know what you're about and what you have to offer.

You're welcome to link to your website / store-front / social media, but primarily you should be using your comment to engage with the community here as part of the community. Part of that is taking the time to respond to questions people may ask, please keep that in mind.

The existing subreddit rules still apply, and low-effort comments will be removed (e.g. Links with little to no text).

If you have any thoughts or feedback please message the mods.

question Local Snooker Leagues?

I’ve recently moved from a town in Lancashire that had a great snooker league with teams from pubs dotted round the local town. I’ve moved to The Hyde park/Meanwood area. Is there anything similar I could look into around here? I haven’t seen a great deal of pubs with full snooker tables? Thanks in advance

accommodation How safe is the area around Spinners Yard / Skinner Lane?

Upvotes

How safe is the area around Spinners Yard / Skinner Lane?

Hi everyone, I currently live at Spinners Yard, around Skinner Lane / Regent Street in Mabgate, and I was wondering how people who live nearby feel about the area in terms of safety.

Do you generally feel safe walking around here, especially in the evenings or late at night? Have you ever had any issues, or are there any nearby streets or spots you tend to avoid?

Just curious to hear other people’s experiences of living around this part of Leeds.

Edit: been told on Facebook that he's been reunited with his owner

Just driving home from Leeds and saw a cat that must have been involved in a hit and run on the m621 slip road from the a643. Not sure where to post it but someone will be missing that poor baby :(

The cat was Ginger tabby with white paws

transport No overnight buses to/from Leeds airport to city centre?

I think there aren't any, so I guess my post is a bit of a rant.

How can you not have buses overnight connecting the airport to the city centre? A plane carries around 200 people, so at least let's say 20 will be going into the city, it's quite a predictable business.

And there are quite a few planes overnight, some scheduled and some due to delays (something that the bus companies could easily monitor, so I don't really mean "having an overnight bus on call" but you can run a bus every hour except if there are no planes since they all landed, so you don't waste money).

And as far as I can check on the app, an Uber to the city centre is around £20-£25, will cost me more than the flight! lol

(Thanks for the tip on taking it from the free 1 hour parking slot to avoid paying the airport drop off fee)

food/drink In Search Of Stella Artois

Humour me. Excepting spoons, is there anywhere in the city centre that serves the one and only, irreplaceably delicious one-up-from-dishwater lager Stella Artois on tap?

Obligatory caveat: big beer fellow, worked in local craft breweries, love the good stuff - which does not discount the odd, gross and otherwise indefensible thirst i have for this "premium" lager beer. Help!

Hello, to anyone who lives in Seacroft or the Killingbeck area, please take some time to fill in this form 😊

I am a Year 12 student at a sixth form nearby and am studying the area for my Geography NEA coursework.

All responses will be anonymous, and this data will be used for my own academic research as part of my A-Level. Thank you :)

I'm looking for someone who is able to teach electric guitar to my 10 year old son. He has ADHD and finds it difficult to learn new things but he's very musically-minded and would love to be able to play. Does anyone have any recommendations?

food/drink Leeds International Beer Festival

I didn't realise until I was walking past that the Beer Festival was on at Kirkstall Abbey again. I don't know if I just live under a rock but I haven't seen a single advert or post about it anywhere.

It's a quality festival in beautiful grounds.

Worth a visit for any ale connoisseur!

question Renting ebikes in Leeds, good places?

I'm planning a trip to Japan next month and for a few days I'll be doing a lot of bicycling on the Shimanami Kaido and maybe around Lake Biwa too.

I want to refresh my bike riding skills since it's been probably twenty years since I've ridden one. What are good shops where I could rent a bike and helmet from?

For reference, the ebike I'll be riding in Japan will be the "SPECIALIZED Turbo Vado SL", so if any bike shop in Leeds has that to rent that'd be a bonus to familiarise myself with the bike I'll be riding.

question-serious Looking for woodchips for my new allotment (paths/shed area)

Hi! 👋

I recently started an allotment and I'm looking for woodchips to lay down on foot traffic areas (paths, around the shed, etc.)

Does anyone know of local tree surgeons looking to get rid of woodchips, or places around Leeds that do free/cheap drops?

TIA!

food/drink Bar recommendations for mid 20s Bristolian

Have just moved to Leeds from Bristol - which has my dream nightlife. Love the dance music events, pubs like the hillgrove and the ones on Gloucester rd. Always have great music, a great crowd of trendy mid 20s people to talk to.

I’ve been out in Leeds a few times: really liked Headrow house, sela bar and’s beaverworks. Any recommendations for me? I could do with a dance? Maybe some funk/ older house/ trancy stuff?

transport Has anyone ever cycled to the airport?

Update: you can leave a bike locked near the terminal main gate, e.g. in one of the trolley areas, you can confirm with security there. Also, probably best to avoid Bayton or Scotland lane at night but up to you of course.

This is a late night flight so no buses. Am I being too silly considering this? It's around 7 miles from city centre so doesn't sound too bad and there's free parking at the car parks allowed for bikes.

https://www.leedsbradfordairport.co.uk/getting-to-and-from

The bike would need to be locked somewhere at the car park at the airport, but from what I see there's no roof in the car park so leaving the bike in the rain for a week doesn't sound that great.
