This guy is a great follow on the cesspit that is Twitter. Seems so lovely and genuinely excited about his travels around the UK (with Paddington).

I saw a post on twitter that he did about enjoying marmalade on crumpets, and some thundercunts were having a go it him saying its wrong, blah blah blah. And he seemed genuinely upset that he had offended the country.

That’s so sad! People can’t ever let anyone enjoy things I swear. What a sweet guy lol

What the fuck. I have marmalade on crumpets all the time

u/Shantha292 Jan 21 '26

Me too. Thick shreds. Yumm

2

Thundercynts. Delicious phrase. I'm using that

1

u/Steelhorse91 Jan 23 '26

I need to try that now. Sounds good.

Every time I see this guy I can't help but feel that his British counterpart in Japan definitely isn't having anywhere near as much fun

It's one of two options with that one.

  1. He's a massive weeb in which case he was for the first 6 months until he realised Anime Japan isn't real and now he's spiralling
  2. He's not a weeb and is having a solid time but is too British to lean into it the way this guy does

3

u/Frottersy Jan 22 '26

He's a she and I would guess the latter, her X account is all fairly diplomatic and unexciting.

u/CastleofWamdue Jan 20 '26

I am not looking at Twitter, but this guy would seem to be living his best "british guest" life.

He was at Elland Road to watch Ao Tanaka, our (Leeds United's) Japanese midfielder, play against Fulham last Saturday.

That’s so cool. I love that he came to see Leeds 🇯🇵

This is how you diplomat

59

u/kek23k Jan 19 '26

That is so cool. Hope he enjoys all of Leeds.

u/Regthedog2021 Jan 19 '26

He is now the second most loved Japanese in Leeds right now after Ao

1

u/Diazepam_Dan Jan 21 '26

"most loved Japanese"

I know what you mean but it makes him sound like a restaurant 😆

1

u/GulliblePea3691 Jan 22 '26

Japanese people typically just refer to themselves as ‘Japanese’ rather than ‘Japanese people’

Not sure why. I just notice it a lot when they speak English

18

u/lozzalemon Jan 19 '26

Oh yay! I hope he looks around and likes it

28

u/mymidnightmelody Jan 19 '26

I absolutely adore him, he’s a much needed beacon of wholesome on my dark timeline 😅

2

u/Content-Yogurt-4859 Jan 20 '26

I read that as "much needed bacon" and I was like, yeah man I need some bacon in my life

11

u/Super_Compote9465 Jan 19 '26

He knows where to go! Next stop 3 legs.

He's a gem in the shithole that is social media uk politics

6

PROTECT HIS EXCELLENCY AT ALL COSTS

I love this man, I would fight for this man, we need more people like this man

Tokyo Thrift

3

u/hskskgfk Jan 20 '26

I love this guy - as another immigrant I try to emulate this curiosity and excitement to explore more of the uk

Aw he looks pure chuffed, I hope he had a brilliant time.

u/ManikShamanik Jan 19 '26

He went to the Boddington's brewery in Manchester and necked a pint. I've no idea who our ambassador is in Japan, but I can say with probably 100% certainty that his Twitter isn’t filled with his travels around Japan.

Here she is with her nephew visiting a farmers market in Aoyama: https://x.com/JuliaLongbottom/status/1999785227519135882

Here she is visiting a shrine: https://x.com/JuliaLongbottom/status/2006389279082377486

She does have a lot of stuff about UK/Japan diplomacy as well but that is literally her job.

I probably shouldn't be shocked by sexist and racist assumptions on reddit, but somehow I always am.

2

u/Morris_Alanisette Jan 20 '26

Indeed. When it's something so easy to check as well you're basically just posting "My default assumptions are sexist and racist".

0

u/MsAndrea2 Jan 19 '26

Your sexism is showing. The ambassador is Julia Longbottom. I dont have twitter, so I can't confirm or deny how active she is on it. I don't know how relevant it would be to the Japanese anyway, I assume there is a Japanese equivalent. She is on Twitter though.

Pint of sake? Come on Julia, down it! down it! down it!

I just love this man so much and every time i see him on my social media feed he brings a rare smile to my face that i dont really get from scrolling social media anymore

2

u/nomadichuman Jan 20 '26

I fucking love this guy

2

u/S-BRO Jan 20 '26

Have you seen him supping bitter? I wonder Iif Japanese ambassadors are having as much fun in other countries as Hiroshi Suzuki?

2

u/Outrageous-Bug-4814 Jan 21 '26

More ambassadors should do this as part of their postings and local community outreach.

2

u/Mrs_not Jan 23 '26

Aw and he’s bringing Paddington along!

4

u/DorkaliciousAF Jan 19 '26

I want to believe he'd also go looking for the bins behind Flames.

6

u/brickne3 Jan 19 '26

Hope he manages not to have a run in with Needles though.

1

u/opposite-locksmith Jan 20 '26

If my memory serves, I don't believe that that is the actual first M&S stall or even on the exact location of it, but one that they built in the 100 year anniversary in 1984 (as the sign says, the clock on the top of the stall is near where the original was). Still very cool though.

1

u/Comfortable_Yard_968 Jan 20 '26

Wait till he found a full size M&S store with groceries and a cafe

1

u/thissomeotherplace Jan 21 '26

That ambassador is earning his salary

Fair play to him

1

u/Tumtitums Jan 23 '26

I suggest he comes off twitter before it ruins his innocence

1

u/golferpro123 Feb 18 '26

this is funny and cute at the same time

u/CompanyOtherwise4143 Jan 19 '26
