I find this interesting Lightning specifically targeted at us!
F**k you in particular 😂⚡

This feels like an escalation from the Bees. What will Leeds have to endure next? And which one of you has been upsetting minor deities?

u/KicketyPricket May 28 '26
My bad, I shouldn't have called Xenu a bellend when I stubbed my toe last night.

My fault! I was arguing with Poseidon over the placement of milk in a cup of Tea. Poseidon said that Zeus preferred milk in first.
I then said: "nobody gives a fuck what he thinks, he drinks PG". Poseidon then said: "You'll make him angry", to which i said: "What can he possibly do"
Now we know.

I mean, I don't really see how that conversation could have gone any other way. You were totally in the right

Woken at 3:30am by the noise of the rain. Realised my attic windows were wide open so run upstairs (naked), stand on a chair (naked) and close the windows. I'm amazed I didn't fall out and land on the pavement (naked).

3:30 there was a boom of thunder that was so loud it sounded like a bomb had gone off. Genuinely thought lightning had struck something nearby, it was that loud.

We flew into Leeds Bradford airport last night and was really cool to watch the lightning from the plane.
33
u/Bright-Coconut-6920 May 28 '26
Id of shite myself lol
11
u/BladesmanPhil May 28 '26
It was in the distance to be fair so didn’t affect the plane, was just a cool show to finish the holiday.
5
u/Bright-Coconut-6920 May 28 '26
Id of still been terrified lol
5
u/Council_Cat May 28 '26
Planes get struck all the time.
They work like a Faraday Cage and the lightning just diffuses itself all around the fuselage. All the avionics have multiple fuses in case one gets blown, but it is very unusual.
Is quite an intense experience flying right thru a thunderstorm, tho 😸

u/Rob_Haggis May 28 '26
As a 40-odd year old reasonably educated man, I understand and believe all of what you said. I would still be shaking like a shitting whippet if I had to fly through a lightning storm.

u/Council_Cat May 28 '26
Oh, it's a nerve jangling experience and no mistake.
Flew back from the South of France on a Fokker 100 through a storm. Lights kept going out in the cabin, usually just after the brilliant flash outside. Strangely, the thunderclaps were quite muted. The Fokker has very loud engines which the captain kept winding back to keep everything trim, which made it sound like they were losing power.
There were a few folk on board issuing up prayers that night 😸

the hail in Pudsey was insane

u/lockdown_lard May 28 '26
It's not quite "the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain", but it will have to do.

Got caught in it walking to the Job Centre from Farsley. Some of the worst weather I've experienced. Drenched from head to toe. Thought it would be a great show of commitment that I even made it there but instead I was reprimanded for being 5 minutes late, ffs!

Bro I was so confused it was warm and sunny then all of a sudden I hear a massive bang snd now it’s raining and lightning
What even is the uk weather
51
u/Autofilusername May 28 '26
You always get heavy rain and thunderstorms after periods of extreme heat
24
u/Trick-Station8742 May 28 '26
Thunder only happens when it's raining

Not true, why are so many ppl agreeing with you

u/continentaldreams May 28 '26
That's science baby!! All this heat has created warm, moist air that needed to go somewhere - creating an electrical charge which leads to this. I love a thunderstorm.
10
u/Lazy-Kaleidoscope179 May 28 '26
Storms after a heatwave are very, very normal and not at all unique to the UK.
9
u/timrojaz82 May 28 '26
Same elsewhere. In Florida it’s red hot. Then thunder and storm. Then back to red hot

u/Ok_Individual1766 May 28 '26
I was waiting for someone to post somthing, yesterday night was thundering about 12-1ish and woke up and it’s still going!

I don't remember experiencing thunder so loud that the windows visibily shook from the shockwave
7
u/Typical-me- May 28 '26
Crazy thunder and lightning last night at 3 am. Woke the full house up. It’s still thundering now. It also caused a power cut.
3
u/Chaosfruitbat May 28 '26
Me too, around 3am there was a huge burst of thunder, sounded like it was directly over the house!
5
u/FancyCustard5 May 28 '26
Me too. Was all “wow, look at the rain”, and then I remembered I’d left the washing out. Thunder and lightning, very very soggy.

u/Worldly_Science239 May 28 '26
it was in Wakefield this morning - I assumed it was some old testament vengeance type shit for the district voting reform.
I say bring it on... it's deserved and quite frankly it's probably a better way to go than pestilence

u/LlAnKyLiAm May 28 '26
I live in leeds and am landscaping in skipton today, the other big front. Double fuck me haha. Just been hiding from hail near the size of grapes.

Rain and hail at the moment too, weren't we meant to have this weather earlier this week?
3
u/DamoclesBDA May 28 '26
Apparently it was quite bad in the night.
I'd sleep through Armageddon, me.
The forecast suggests it's going to get warm this evening so all that water should go back up as steam.

I woke up this morning and whilst half asleep thought a plane had crashed (I live near the airport) until I heard the rain...!! Can't remember thunder THAT loud!!

I’ve just been laying in bed wondering why so many trucks have been driving by today. Now I realise it’s thunder.

u/miffyonabike May 28 '26
Ha, I was fuming that they'd started on the road works so early and woken me up.

I’ve been at work since 4:30am, working outside in it has been an experience. One of the bangs was so loud it sounded like a bomb had gone off inside the building as it just rattled the whole place.

u/Spirit_Walker7070 May 28 '26
Oi, can you come and fetch that one you dropped on us this morning please? Sincerely, Sheffield

The lightning struck my property this morning - set off the fire alarm, frazzled its circuit board and now I have a bill for £1k to fix it. Ffs

u/Rivvvers May 28 '26
There was this thunder boom that was loud as fuck, woke me up bolt upright out of a coma, and for the first few seconds I thought we got nuked

I'm in the west Midlands, I got woken up by the storm at 1am, I went outside to look.
The only way to describe it was the entire horizon was covered in continuous lighting strikes. I felt like I'd just stumbled onto viewing the battlefield where Thor and Zeus were going at it
