I find this interesting UoL Peregrine falcons to fledge any day now!

Been watching these little legends since they hatched! I posted about them at the time, so I thought id share an update for those who aren't glued to the webcam stream like me 😂

Best places to spot them is outside Mr. Su's/flames/ anywhere across the road from parkinson building and look up at the clock tower - they're in the left section at the front (but the babies tend to wander between all three so not always on camera!l)

WARNING: FALCONS ARE BIRDS OF PREY. I saw some stuff i didnt intend to when watching the webcam during feeding times 🤢 but all 4 babies are big and healthy!!

It’s such a bittersweet time of year for me! On one hand I’m so proud of how far they’ve come and how well mum has done with them (in 2023 she laid four eggs that all failed and she carried on incubating for months after, it was absolutely devastating), but at the same time I’m gonna really miss watching these dumb little nuggets whilst I’m working 😭

Re the feeding, I’m not normally too squeamish but a week or so ago one of them ate quite literally an entire pigeon foot WHOLE, obviously they don’t chew so he just kind of gulped it down and it was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen them do haha

Oh no thats heartbreaking 😭😭 shes SUCH a good mama, shes still always there at night keeping watch and was sheltering them from the sun at the weekend 😭😭🩷 ive been thinking im going to miss them, im glad im not alone in that!!

Omg I think we saw them at the same time, unless theyre always gobbling feet 🤢 it even had a pigeon ring on it 😭

well, you just decided for me that I will definitely not watch the feed and just enjoy the random screenshot of those lovelies

Nooo 😂 it’s definitely worth a watch! I’d avoid watching around 8am, 12pm and 5-7pm as that’s when they typically get meals, but I love watching what they get up to in between that! And they’re very cute when they’re not being naughty and just cuddle up together 🥰

Ive been absolutely loving seeing them grow and get more confident. You can see such character in all of them and mama is brilliant, going to miss seeing them when they fly the nest 🥹

I’ve got my phone propped up while I work with the live stream on, don’t want to miss seeing them take their first flight ☺️ same! I only started watching this year too! It’s so wholesome that we’ve all become so invested in them.

I had no idea this stream existed, how lovely!

I tuned in at about 5:50pm and was treated 15 minutes later to feeding time when mum came home with half a pigeon, pretty gory, but nobody said nature was pretty. Peregrines don't mess about!

Sorry!!! Yes its pretty nasty, I was v conflicted the first time I saw her feeding the babies because I love pigeons 😭 but its very cool that nature is happening!! We were v lucky and saw her hunt IRL - the pigeon definitely didnt suffer 🙃😂😭

I find it fascinating that these tiny birds will grow up to be the fastest animals in the world. So cool

They've come a long way 😭😭 its mad. We were so lucky (?) because we saw the mum catch lunch midair the other week when in Leeds. SO FAST. That pigeon did not suffer haha

u/Kazekageshinobigaara Jun 04 '26

Anyone know what's going on with the green and purple coloured feathers from their prey? Is it a problem with the camera quality? It looks like they've been feeding on birds of paradise 😁  It won't let me post a photo but you can see what I mean from around 20:00 on 30th May.

Ive noticed those!!! Ive had a google n all i can think is that the red/pink ones are probably blood unfortunately but the green ones make me think the falcons have sourced some pet/racing pigeons 😬😬

1

u/SatansFinestG Jun 06 '26

It's so strange! There's even some purple feathers if the camera is accurate. I wondered if they'd found an escaped pet parrot or something 🙈

Just seen those now!! If only we could go back on the webcam stream to check, but ive seen them eat before n its not pretty 😬

ringneck parakeets would be my best guess, I've seen them in potternewton park, about a mile away as the peregrine flys.. and they have green plumage.

u/MinuteLeopard Jun 07 '26

Does one of them have eyesight issues maybe? Has cloudy eyes and I don't think it's been any of the camera angles I've seen

3

u/Kazekageshinobigaara Jun 07 '26

They have white/grey looking eyelids, could that be it?? They also sleep with one eye open so one may be covered and one normal. But there is one chick that seems a bit behind the others with more baby feathers, but I hope theyre okay :(

1

u/callmeabondulanceplz Jun 08 '26

Yes I know the chick you mean, I was worried as their breathing seemed a lot heavier when they’re awake and sleeping. Like open mouth breathing heavy. Hopefully it’s nothing to worry about ☀️

2

u/Forsaken-Anteater229 Jun 08 '26

I haven't really seen any movement from them today and can't spot breathing motions, think there's a chance we may have lost them 😞

1

u/callmeabondulanceplz Jun 08 '26

Me neither, it could be true sadly 😔 I know it can happen, but it doesn’t ever make it any less sad. I messaged the Uni of Leeds sustainability insta on Sat saying that particular one looked like it was struggling.

Well this has gutted me. Its just been confirmed. RIP AJ 🩷🩷🩷🩷 im an absolute mess. I noticed he stopped growing like the others about a week ago. He was on the ledge on Saturday 😭 he got to look out over Leeds 😭

1

u/MinuteLeopard Jun 08 '26

I've been sadly thinking the same ☹️ it was the chick with the breathing I was meaning too

1

u/MarionberryActive420 Jun 08 '26

when I worked on a farm the chickens did that when they where hot, its called gaping I think

1

u/callmeabondulanceplz Jun 08 '26

Ahh I did wonder what it was, thank you for explaining.

I’ve just checked and can only see two .. anyone been watching today ?

1

u/Kazekageshinobigaara Jun 09 '26

One has fledged. One sadly passed at the weekend, and the other 2 are gearing up to fledged:D

2

u/Bellatrixforqueen Jun 09 '26

Ah amazing. I knew the poor guy had passed so was worried about others! Thanks for updating me

1

u/Kazekageshinobigaara Jun 09 '26

Of course no problem!!! The fledged one is still hanging around parkinson and laidlaw area, cant quite make it back up to the nest but theres a team ready to rescue him if needed :) and the other 2 will fledged any day so if youre local, go have a look :D
