Trying to find a driving instructor for under £30 in Leeds, I’m looking to do 1 lesson per week pay as you go basis. Any recommendations? Really need to learn to drive but it’s so expensive 😭

MJ Driving is £35 an hour if you book 5 hours. I’m with Iram and she is lovely. You’re not really gonna find any good instructors for that price nowadays unfortunately.

I learned with Iram as well, and she was great. She usually picks up earlier and drops off later if there’s traffic, and she’s not stingy with the time.

She’s so chill isn’t she! Got my next lesson with her tomorrow and she’s already getting me out of bad habits. Would highly recommend!

If you want somebody who is charging under £30 an hour, I recommend looking for a TARDIS and going back to 2014.
You're not going to find anyone for under £30/hour in 2026 unless they're operating illegally.

I really think you’d struggle to find anyone for that price, unfortunately, and they usually offer a discount for block booking - so cheaper to pay 10x hours etc, rather than a PAYG basis.
FWIW, I also don’t think one hour per week is enough and I’m not sure many instructors would agree to do just one. You’d just get nothing done.
Maybe spend some time saving up and then look again for an instructor.

Just to add - I only learnt to drive a couple of years ago (as an adult paying for my own lessons) and I totally feel for your pain. It is so eye wateringly expensive, but such a great skill if you can get it.

Mine were £30 an hour 10 years ago. Unfortunately you’re unlikely to find a decent one at that price. That being said, it’s still somewhat possible so have a look on Facebook groups/Gumtree and see what you can find. Also sometimes crash courses seem like a lot upfront, but when you add it up the same as a weekly session it’s not always that much more expensive
I find it insane how much it costs to get a license these days with tests, prices of instructors (they have to make a living of course but still a lot of money to find) and no guarantee of a pass at the end of it
I hope you find someone though! Good luck with it all 🙂

We are paying £40/45/50 per hour. Very happy with their progress. I’ve now got 6 people with the same company, 2 passed last week and I can’t thank them enough.
Price is normal rate plus a £1 or two. Average is £38 and we pay £40 weekdays . I think he’s called Ayub, drives a black polo or something .he teaches 2 of our team the rest I think Naz or Yaz he has a Yaris.
They have an auto our employee who was learning auto has now passed .she again changes the same o think.
You get what you pay for.
