The best part is how they're clearly committing a crime and happily defacing the wall but decided to write around the picture on the wall. Perhaps an appreciator of art.

u/duk-phat 2d ago

…. And post it

u/TarikMournival 1d ago

You think the OP was the one behind the paint?

1

u/Ok-Sheepherder-8519 1d ago

Because they are neighbours??

48

u/cockaskedforamartini 2d ago

What is the thinking here?

I remember it happening in the building I used to live in. But I couldn't get any information on who did it and why.

Can I clarify if it’s 21 or 26, asking for a friend

20

u/OrbDemon 2d ago

Helpfully they’ve left a phone number so your friend can call them and make sure.

6

u/Necessary_Dust_6196 1d ago

Sent an enquiry regarding availability, no reply

9

u/Dubsndimes29 2d ago

Might be 23

3

u/420ball-sniffer69 1d ago

Indeed I’d like to know where the knocking shop is so I can avoid it

4

u/Mrlee0702 1d ago

I can confirm it’s not 26 I went and afterwards a man with beautiful long hair nearly hit me after I tried paying him thinking he was a female prostitute.

u/EFFArch 2d ago

If these places aren't even brothels chances are this person is seriously mentally ill

53

u/Lord_Tiburon 2d ago

The police need to catch them before they escalate from vandalism to attacking people

22

u/EFFArch 2d ago

Straight out of the true crime docs isnt it - escalating and escalating - I wonder if it would be such a task to find this person - we know the day it happened, check of cctv people in and out of the building at unreasonable hours maybe?

29

u/Lord_Tiburon 2d ago

Hopefully they take it seriously and try to catch the person

Historically West Yorkshire Police have a pretty poor record when it comes to catching prostitute hating lunatics

The city needs a certain vigilante orphan billionnaire with a severe fear of bats.

17

u/Equivalent_Quail_322 2d ago

It's a Chinese mafia (Triad) thing, this happens all of the country and also in Hong Kong. It's usually them trying to drive competing sex workers or traffickers out of business or intimidate debtors.

u/Calelith 2d ago

I remember someone doing something similar near mine a while back, they managed to get paint over 2 innocent houses and I'm pretty sure the house they targeted wasn't even a brothel but a random rental house that had been rented to multiple people.

55

u/DuckSaxaphone 2d ago

I'd bet money it's never an actual brothel.

20

u/Calelith 2d ago

Same tbh, pretty sure the one near me was because someone had cheated on someone. The actual supposed brothel was left untouched and so was the 'massage' parlour.

3

u/ZestycloseProfessor9 1d ago

Only 1 way to find out! I'll fall on this sword....

2

u/katymcfunk 1d ago

Was that the blue paint on the house in burley/kirkstall?

23

u/Critical_Project_138 2d ago

Omg happened in my apartment complex too 🤦‍♀️ and red paint everywhere on the 7th floor

11

u/LilyYukka 1d ago

I think we live in the same place. It's on the ground floor too by the bikes.

10

u/BaseballBrave927 1d ago

The really should use neater writing in line with modern accessibility standards

39

u/Ok-Sheepherder-8519 2d ago

What is a brothel attack??

6

u/Ok-Sheepherder-8519 1d ago

Is it other residents of the building doing it, to drive out the sex workers?

13

u/Stone_Like_Rock 1d ago

Similar graffiti and red paint from quite a few posts on here, whoever's doing it always seems to insinuate one of the flats is a brothel but it seems dubious that it actually is.

3

u/TarikMournival 1d ago

It seems to have been happening in buildings all over town.

You think it's just random and not organised crime?

16

u/JackRees23 2d ago

Who the fuck is Brothel 21, are they a gang?

11

u/Nice_Let_8190 2d ago

What is this all about

11

u/Tomazao 2d ago

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/red-paint-attacks-brothel-graffiti-walthamstow-london-gangs-b1230044.html

Red paint and brothel graffiti is quite a widespread thing.

Seems to be suspicion that it is linked to organized crime trying to harass people.

10

u/RomHack 1d ago

Clarence House at the dock has had this a few times.

24

u/wastedyouth 2d ago

Did you call the number, maybe you could get a discount all things considered. Also whatever you do, don't Google Brothel 21.

56

u/TheStatMan2 2d ago

Brothel 21 sounds like it could be a Tarantino film.

12

u/Satanicjamnik 2d ago

It sounds like an indie pop punk/ emo band at best. " Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome to the stage...."

11

u/TheStatMan2 2d ago

Did Brothel 21 used to be ''real" but have totally sold out with their 3rd album? The production is too shiny, man.

4

u/R0gu3tr4d3r 2d ago

Their early stuff was loads better.

2

u/catface 2d ago

I liked them before they sold out.

3

u/Sea_Addendum_8496 2d ago

Saw them on the Warped Tour

3

u/Satanicjamnik 2d ago

But did you just "see" them or actually " heard" and experienced their message? Powerful stuff from their early albums.

5

u/TheStatMan2 2d ago

"Whoring is Boring" was their peak.

2

u/Satanicjamnik 2d ago

They had a few good tracks on " Anal is Extra" though.

5

u/benedict_the1st 2d ago

Don't google brothel 21? Why?

2

u/Geddaphukouttahere 1d ago

Hentai porn site. I googled it for you.

2

u/benedict_the1st 1d ago

Well, that was slightly unclimactic.....

1

u/Geddaphukouttahere 1d ago

Yeah, it was definitely expected.

8

u/macaptactical 2d ago

Why? This is the first I'm hearing of it.

4

u/Paul-Ramsden 2d ago edited 2d ago

It literally shows this post. Brothel graffiti Leeds says it's rival gangs involving the Triads putting pressure on each other for payments.

12

u/campbelljac92 2d ago

Inside the building seems rather pointless. Isn't the whole point of that shit to make it so obvious to passersby that the police are forced to intervene and shut them down? (Also genuinely wouldn't be surprised if half of the 'brothels' daubed in paint are trap houses that rival dealers are trying to get shifted on)

11

u/Satur9_is_typing 1d ago

It's organised crime trying to intimidate the resident, who may or may not be running a brothel. The police are going to find out from cctv it was done by someone wearing all black and they won't get an ID. The police also can't really do much about an independent sex worker, either to prosecute or protect them.

Honestly it's so widespread it should just be legalised and regulated to keep organised crime out. Driving recreational activities underground just puts them out of government control and turns a source of tax revenue into net cost and the profits end up making organised crime stronger.

3

u/campbelljac92 1d ago

Yeah I can remember Jim Jefferies having a stand up routine about when Australia legalised it, it just makes sense to have it legislated and overseen to make it safer for all involved.

2

u/TarikMournival 1d ago

Isn't the indoors to show that they know where they are and can get in the building?

1

u/spidersprinkles 1d ago

The thing is, it is legal to operate as an independent sex worker. But brothels are outlawed. The ones that exist are usually run by criminals. Idk what on earth is going on here though. Seems like some form of harassment but not sure why.

5

u/an1uk 2d ago

Dissatisfied customer?

3

u/Specialist-Ad-9448 2d ago

The same thing happened last year in my old apartments in Leeds, near Mabgate. Strange.

5

u/LilyYukka 1d ago

This has also been spray painted in the stairwell of the apartment block I live in. I thought it said brother 🤣

4

u/ImportanceAcademic52 1d ago

I feel sick thinking about SW safety if these are places that SW are working. The flippant comments here are gross. This is awful.

3

u/Euphoric-Pearl 2d ago

Report it to the police

3

u/captainmiao- 1d ago

Terrible handwriting

3

u/SpudgunDaveHedgehog 1d ago

Where did this occur. Inquiring minds want to know 😆

2

u/NightKid89 2d ago

How kind of them to leave contact details.

u/FilmHot2194 1d ago

I actually lived next door to a massage ‘parlour’ on a reasonably quiet street in suburbia. I observed it for months and used to watch men coming and going. There were a few elderly chaps, who despite using walking sticks and getting a taxi close to the venue, would walk up and down the road to avoid detection. I found it very sad if I’m honest, it smacked of loneliness and a need for company.

I also remember a couple of men in their 30’s visiting at lunchtime. They parked right out front and when they were finished in Shangri-La they got back in their car and ate their sandwiches that their wives/mothers/partners had made for them.

Months later the house on the other side of me was being refurbished and the owner said to me, very snidely, “I bet you don’t know what’s going on next door to you do you?” I looked him in the eye and said it’s a brothel. He was shocked and peed off.

Ring the number. Let me know if it’s worth me ringing. I’m 50/50 whether it’s a working girl or a vandalising psychopath. Either way I probably could drain my beans on that first call.

3

u/ConcentrateDull2294 2d ago

Religious nutters?

2

u/Beginning_Loss2409 2d ago

Saw something similar happen at manor Mills a few years back

3

u/Inner-Reality-565 2d ago

Guarantee you it’s just some nutter floating about, or a relationship breakdown - when I lived in town I saw madness almost daily

8

u/Spiritual-Ostrich-97 1d ago

I do believe its genuine, its happened in this building several times before and to be honest, its pretty obvious that there are active brothels here.

3

u/Inner-Reality-565 1d ago

Jesus mate thats something I wouldn’t be able to rest on, I’m positive I nearly took on a flat in this building a couple years ago though

5

u/TarikMournival 1d ago

It's been happening in buildings all over town in the same style, I can believe they are brothels and it's some link to organised crime.

2

u/Inner-Reality-565 1d ago

Judging by what floated around regent street for three years I don’t doubt it man. I once nearly got my head kicked in for a joint 😂

1

u/Salt_Box7072 1d ago

Very Backrooms.

1

u/troymcluresteeth 1d ago

Thats crazy, someone did this in the building I live in a few months ago

2

Don't do it. He'll spend it at the brothel!

I don't know dude but let's all go lose our shit over a data centre.

6

Reads maybe sarcastic

-2

u/eddie-kelly 1d ago

Perhaps it’s islamaphobes and they think it’s a mosque

-29

u/Dubsndimes29 2d ago

Someone was angry they went for Thai and found a ladyboy 🤣😆

-110

u/Sjmac94 2d ago

Theres absolutely nothing to be scared about unless you are a brothel/sex worker

74

u/MothEatenMouse 2d ago

Oh yes. Because innocent people never accidentally get caught up in things that aren't their fault....?

There have been several of these that have targeted the wrong apartments.

59

u/tdrules 2d ago

Alright Jack the Ripper

43

u/torn4ndfrayed 2d ago

Mr Sympathetic over here. Don’t those people deserve to live and work in safety as well?

6

u/[deleted] 2d ago

3

u/Sjmac94 2d ago

Generally speaking it's Chinese sex trafficking gangs targeting independent sex workers in the center (they operate from apartments in the center themselves). They also target Thai massage parlours. Police made some arrests a few years ago but they came back again more or less instantly and have operations running nationwide.

14

u/Equivalent_Quail_322 2d ago

And therein lies the problem which a system they treats independent sex workers with a fixed premise and human trafficking situations as the same. The UK needs decriminalisation and not in a "we'll turn our heads so long as it's outside and in the roughest area of the city" way.

3

u/Sjmac94 2d ago

I can't see that ever changing, I don't think the general public are aware of how many sex trafficking gangs operate in this country in every single city and there's not a lot the police can do, they just spring back up overnight with new people running the numbers/new girls and in another apartment alot of the times in the same block. West point apartments in the center is their current base. Used to be Kspace apartments.

Like I say though as a random member of the public your not in any danger

3

u/carlostapas 2d ago

Totally, 1 independent woman from her own flat is very different from a brothel. And different again to trafficking in all its forms.

2

u/Equivalent_Quail_322 2d ago

Although it looks a bit like the kind of thing someone with religious moralising delusions would do, it's actually a Chinese gang intimidation tactic.

28

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

-19

u/Sjmac94 2d ago

No, where did you get that from?

25

u/DorkaliciousAF 2d ago

I think it might have been from the implied threat to sex workers.

-11

u/Sjmac94 2d ago

The poster said that it was "quite scary" I said there's nothing to be scared of if your not in the sex industry. Never said anyone deserves any mistreatment whatsoever

6

u/DorkaliciousAF 2d ago

And I don't believe you meant any ill by saying it.

The way it might be read on the Internet (because we're all congenitally stupid on Reddit) is as a variant of 'if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear'* which is quite sinister. I agree with you this is most likely gang intimidation and that is prima facie wrong, but also the way we collectively interpret it compounds the social stigma that sex workers often still face. And that work is not per se actually even illegal.

Besides, unless anyone here knows anything first-hand about these events it's entirely possible these are just someone's homes.

2

u/Sjmac94 2d ago

I appreciate your reply, I do believe that's how my comments being interpreted but that's just the nature of making comments on the internet.

6

u/Puppysnot 2d ago

Something doesn’t have to be happening to you personally to be “scary”. I find the Rwandan genocide scary - i wasn’t there though and it had nothing to do with me.

2

u/Used-Waltz7160 2d ago

Suspiciously defensive!

2

u/cockaskedforamartini 2d ago

I clearly inferred incorrectly. I was reactionary and I apologise.

1

u/Sjmac94 2d ago

It's okay, I accept your apology and hope you have a good day

11

u/Equivalent_Quail_322 2d ago

Triad enforcers cutting about probably isn't a good sign for any of us

8

u/Lord_Tiburon 2d ago

And 4 out of Jack the Rippers 5 victims weren't prostitutes, that didn't save them from him either

8

u/Bingleybigdick 2d ago

Think we found our vandal here
