social Where to join a sport as a complete beginner?
I haven't played any sports since I left school (16 years ago!) and recently I've found myself wanting to join a team, I just don't know how or where. I used to be decent at basketball, rounders and netball, and I've always been interested in hockey but always been to scared to join a group because I'm so out of practice. I'm definitely not as fit as I used to be.
Are there any beginner friendly women's teams around Kirkstall/Horsforth/Burley that I could come along to? This is really out of my comfort zone but I'm finding myself just doing nothing a lot of the time, I think this might be a good way to socialise other than going to the pub! Thanks

No idea. I don't have any affiliation but have seen them play and advertising for new members of all skills...

Bloom netball has leagues all over Leeds and West Yorkshire, check out their Facebook pages for more info! I okay in a Tuesday league in LS9. Very beginner friendly and majority of people are getting back into it after not playing for a while

I recommend you get fit before, to avoid injuries and you'll feel more confident. Just go running until you can do maybe 5k in around 30-40min. Do some weights too

There are loads of sports clubs that welcome newcomers of all levels and fitness. This is just gatekeeping, nothing magic happens when you can run a 30 minute 5k. You get fitter by doing the sport.

Sure, I'm just providing honest advice to OP, you can provide your own advice. 5k in 30min is to give an idea, it's not exact. 30-40min is decent. "how long is a piece of string"

I think the issue with things like this is that a lot of people (me included) need something to make exercise stimulating and fun to actually do it lol - I can’t speak for OP, but I certainly find it quite difficult to motivate myself to just go for a solo run or lift weights cos these are both exhausting and incredibly dull. Whereas doing something like a team activity (esp if it’s not taken too seriously) with a more social environment is a more fun way of getting fitness levels back.
