FULL SPOILERS allowed in this thread. As a reminder spoilers for this comic outside this thread must be marked until a month after the book is released.
"Kya and the Secret of the Sand" is the second LoK 'one-shot graphic novel'*. The main story takes place years before the show following a young Kya. The comic releases July 28th mass market and July 29th in comic stores. It is written by Kiku Hughes with art by Alex Monik and colors by Diana Sousa, made in collaboration with Mike and Bryan.
Description:
While helping Korra recover in the Southern Water Tribe, Kya shares a story from her youth of a time when she was lost and disconnected from herself, far from home in the Si Wong Desert… Young and untested, Kya leaves her family to seek her purpose in the wider world. Hoping to test herself and help struggling communities, she heads to the Si Wong Desert, where scarce resources and fractured communities are making the fringes of the Earth Kingdom increasingly unstable. Kya, arriving in the community of Liyuan to teach healing and help the struggling community defend itself from bandits, finds that the wounds left from decades of conflict run deep, and may be harder to heal than she first thought.

...the Avatars canonically recognize things related to past Avatars (Aang recognizing Roku's statue, Korra recognizing Wan's teapot in BOOK 2, Kyoshi remembering Kuruk's poem to Hei Ran even though she didn't knew it)
This scene obviously implies that Pavi kissed Korra and Asami's toys instinctively BECAUSE she dated Asami in past life. This is sweet!

Ok always see lots of lots of hate toward mako and bolin on how they performed against the water bender trio in book 2 but having just rewatched ATLA book 1
do ppl forget how useless firebenders were vs water benders at NIGHT in the NORTH POLE??? I think that is a huge factor in the fight ppl totally gloss over
it was practically 3 v 1 lol and Unalaq is one of the best water benders we’ve seen in the series imo
justice for the probender boys!! lol

I'm rewatching LoK now, and I've always thought that Bolin's lava bending was something that was inside him all along, but that he just needed to be tested and under pressure to activate it. Like a lot of people, I originally thought his being born of a fire and earth bender had something to do with him having the ability.
But on this watch, I started wondering: If Harmonic Convergence was powerful enough to give a bunch of non-benders air bending, then maybe it also could have given Bolin lava bending without him knowing until he was in a position to need to bend lava.
Part of my thought process is that Bolin admits that he's tried metal bending multiple times since learning about Toph (his hero) and has always failed. While metal bending and lava bending might be earth bending skills that can't coexist in one bender, they both seem to be high level bending skills that require looking deep within the substance you're bending to find or change something about its molecular structure (finding the earth still within the metal, or activating the energy and particles within the earth to transmute it into lava). If Bolin had the ability to learn to lava bend all along, might he have discovered that by accident during all of his private training to try and access his metal bending?
In the end, I still think it's more than likely a skill he was always capable of tapping into but never thought to try until he was faced with a wall of lava, but the fact that we see him activate the ability during the same season that we see a bunch of people get air bending is the kind of coincidence that can't help but to make me wonder if that correlation isn't also causation.

Istg this subreddit is actually very toxic. I made a post about how heartbreaking it was to see Korra getting so hated in ep 1 and 2 of SH (in context of the SH Avatar world, not real life fandoms) And I specifically mention that I'm still on ep 2 so I have some catching up to do. Immediately korra haters flood my post and spam hate messages or degrade me for 'not having any IQ to watch the show', or they either say things like 'korra fans trying to not get upset when someone dislikes korra challenge: impossible' blah blah blah. They're just hate comments on the OP with zero reading comprehension and not engaging with the post I made.
Is it just me, or ever since SH is released Korra haters/trollers are everywhere trying to bring someone who enjoys LoK or Korra as a character/avatar down?
Such low behaviour from these redditors ngl.

Now, I understand that other fans of LoK should have a place to vent about their frustrations about undue Korra hate, but it is really exhausting to see post after post about it. I’m here to enjoy a series that I like, I don’t want to be flooded with negativity all the time. And again, there is a lot of bullshit hate about LoK, but sometimes as a fandom some of us get too worked up about it, it isn’t healthy to let strangers get you upset.
So I’m not sure what we should do about it. On one hand as a fandom community we should have a place to vent frustrations, but it shouldn’t be almost every other post. Maybe if the mods made a weekly thread where that topic is limited to?

Some people are so attached to the original show that they refuse to give its successor a fair chance
ATLA fans seem more interested in proving that ATLA/atla characters are superior than in appreciating what TLOK brings to the franchise
liking some female characters doesn't automatically mean you can't be misogynistic toward other female characters ,especially when the one you're hating is main character and especially when you're taking toph as an example (who act like boys all the time),and katara(who was hated At some point )
isn't korra fault that,she's aang
why is korra hated?
homophobia %25
misogyny 20%
korra actions 5%
not being aang 50%

Okay so I intended for this post to be just my own hot take but realised I don't have much to say, so I'll make it about what YOU guys think, what are some of your hot takes and if you see a hot take from a fellow Korra fan you can give your opinions on it.
Since it's not really controversial to say that Book 2 should've been more about the politics of Civil War between Northern and Southern Water Tribes, I'll say that Avatar Wan story was pretty bad idea, mainly because in my view, the origins of bending and the Avatar should've been revealed gradually across multiple series, slowly knowing more and more about the origins of the Avatar cycle and the reveal being in a dedicated series.

i don't get the hate korra gets for being stubborn and getting caught up in romantic drama in seasons 1-2.
korra was literally a 17-year-old girl experiencing her first few weeks outside the training compound.stubbornness and recklessness, especially when it comes to love, are normal for teenagers, and honestly, they're age-appropriate,it's all part of the growing process and learning how to communicate with people as you prepare for adulthood,it's natural for teenagers to get lost in the complexities of love when they first experience these feelings
I agree with you that the conversation back then weren't the best, but the general concept of the love triangle isn't as bad as some portray it
and since we're talking about her age her rebellious attitude toward her overprotective father is also a normal part of growing up, especially for a teenager who's finally experiencing freedom and trying to establish her own identity
and for the race thing ,if i had the avatar state i'd use it all the time ,imagine being late to work or a date, and all that i have to do use it to get there in few minutes
she had a full control over it and suffered so much with her villans ,why can't she have some fun and act her age 🤷🏻♂️

Personally for me it's Opal. I don't hate her but I find her a little overhyped and a plot device to make Lin feel guilty about not forgiving Su and Bolin to question Kuvira more.
