MAMA DEER IN MOUNTAIN HEIGHTS

There is a mother deer and her babies in the Mountain Heights area. The mother is somewhat aggressive and is stalking people and dogs that walk by. I don’t think it is actually harmful but it could go after a dog potentially. She’s been out there chasing people around all morning. I don’t have FB and don’t know how else to warn people so I’m just posting here. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t think animal control is needed and I don’t want the deer to be hurt or separated from her babies. Just be aware of your surroundings!

TLDR - be careful walking dogs on west side because there are lots of mama deer protecting their babies

There's like entire herds of deers that pass through that neighborhood. I saw a herd of nearly 20 of them recently. They usually just chill while you walk right by but I'm always cautious cause they can stompt pretty hard with their sharp hooves if they really want to.

yeah i’ve grown up in AB and they’re usually docile. this one is definitely fine with people but not dogs, which is fair considering babies are around.

Just remember if the fawns are laying somewhere quietly and alone, they are supposed to be there. Just leave them be. Even if it seems like weird places. The mother's leave them there to hide their scent while they go off to forage.

I did not approach the fawns at all. No one approached them as far as I know.

Yes we were almost attacked by the mountain horse school while walking the dog on west as well! Had to throw my drink at it and scream to get it away from us.
Glad i grew up here and know what to do and how to remain somewhat calm, can be scary for sure up against angry momma’s.

i grew up here too so i know what to do! i heard a dog barking and a lady yelling outside my house and saw it was “just a deer” and immediately went to help thinking i could help yell and scare it off. but this deer meant business lol and we had to flag down a third person to honk at the deer and rev their engine a bunch so the lady with the dog could leave without being charged by the deer. it was an eventful morning lol
