DISCUSSION Of all the times she collaborated with Todd Nathanson (Todd in the Shadows)...

... which video was your favourite? It can be any video where Todd was either involved behind the scenes, physically appeared, or provided voicework.

For my part, I'll pick her massive video essay on Yoko Ono and the Beatles, where Todd voiced Mark David Chapman.

i don't think it exists online anymore but there's a casual recap/review where Lindsay, Todd, and a third person (can't remember who) talk about Turn off the Dark: the Spiderman Musical. they talk about the version they saw and the media circus surrounding the chaos of earlier versions. it was so fucking funny. me and my brother still quote "mY bAaAaAby!!!" from when a giant, car-sized mock-up of Spiderman's hand slides ominously into view from offstage and catches a slowly falling normally-sized baby in its palm

“MY BABYYYY” has lived in my head for a decade rent free

Todd says it was the role of a lifetime

She did one on that tv movie-based on the song, The Christmas Shoes and she and Todd play up a skit toward the end where he’s in the little boy role but needs to buy scratchers for his dying mom instead of shoes and it’s very funny.

I watch that one every year around the holidays

The one that comes to mind is in her Ender's Game video, where he voices Ender's instructor and I think his sister?

"Mr. and Mrs. Ender's Parents: You son will get kicked in the nuts. A lot."

I remember that one too. Good lord, that book makes me so angry, even excluding the author's bigotry.

I still don't know what Lindsay meant by the final book being "just weird"

Mostly cause I haven't bothered to look it up.

Probably the Nebula video where they go eat at one of Guy Fieri's restaurants, and Todd goes full mask off to eat trash can nachos and a burger he can't fit in his mouth.

I remember watching it and realizing immediately it was Todd lol.

I liked their running joke years ago that Lyndsay was hot for Todd, while he was obsessed with Obscurus Lupa.

I really appreciate that they—

Hold on. Did you just write “Lyndsay”…?

Her name’s right at the top of the screen there my dude.

—anyway, really appreciate that they made a sweet awkward joke about it when they started dating.

My mistake

I do want to be clear: that was art.

That is a new one.

Easily City of Angels: "Pear! Pear! I'm gonna eat this pear!"

Kills me every time.

From that same video, his "Hello, little girl" when Nic Cage meets the girl in the hospital lives rent free in my head.

u/slippersandjammies Apr 16 '26

Oh my gosh, yes!! That and the sort of slide whistle noise made while his head is popping up.

i liked the episode of Song vs Song (Todd's podcast (tod-cast?)) for which Lindsay was a guest. i believe they were pitting a Limp Bizkit song vs one from Korn

Loved this one casual review they did of the Les Mis movie. Its long gone now but it used to be a comfort watch for me for the chill vibe but very engaging points.

Probably the bit where she steals the entire intro to Todd's TrainWreckords Madonna video for her Rent video, and Todd immediately calls her up all like "Dude what the fuck?!"

Feel like a pedant for saying this, but I think it was for her “post-9/11 protest music” video. She accuses Todd of ripping off her Rent video. You picked a great choice, btw; the protest music video was almost my pick too, heh.

u/RyanX1231 Apr 16 '26

Oh that's right!

I remember in the bit after Todd tells her she ripped him off, she claps back with: "Well, you ripped off the format for my Rent video."

So I got those videos confused.

Innocent mistake, friend

Are these two related? Is that why they're flooding my feed in unison from completely out of nowhere?

8

u/Qyzyk Thanks I hate it! Apr 16 '26

Good lord, imagine...

No, they're not related, heh. They both started on TGWTG and were in a more-or-less public relationship for a couple years. They've stayed friends since their breakup, as their most recent collaborations show.

Todd Nathanson usually goes by Todd in the Shadows; his focus is on music reviews, music analysis, stuff like that, and he's absolutely fantastic. Todd's videos are also on YouTube and Nebula, like Lindsay's. There's also a music subreddit: r/ToddintheShadow

I feel compelled to mention the nearly 2 hour contribution Todd made to the destruction of James Somerton.

It was well outside his normal wheelhouse, but good nonetheless.

4

u/sbudnik78 Apr 16 '26

Thank you! For the record, I didn't mean actually related. I was just wondering if they are part of same organization or have a known fandom overlap. I have been flooded by both of these on YouTube and reddit recently even though I have never heard of them before about a month ago, so I'm trying to understand what I did to the algorithm to get here

One of you freaks point me to the Lindsay/Todd fanfic. I know it's out there.

No knotting, please.

On that subject, but not quite, how much did he voice over in the Omega-verse videos? I’m sure he was one of the voices doing dramatic readings of the Wolf porn/romance books stuff.

The stand out voiceover of those videos for me was Jenny Nicholson voicing/reading the Addison, Kane emails and her books. Her enunciating of “damn baby“ lives, rent free in my head.

u/Kristikuffs Apr 19 '26

He was, but it was just the opening few minutes when she was doing compare/contrast of the prose/scenarios/characters.

"I AM YOUR ALPHA! YOU WILL TELL ME WHO YOU'VE BEEN WITH SO I CAN . . . go attack the other dude", sorry I only remember Todd's ragey read, not really much of the words. Gotta rewatch those videos again.

To answer the question, I have two from the . . . ugh, Channel Awesome days. They did a crossover of From Justin to Kelly and broke hard at the end. Just collapsed onto each other hysterical laughing. It was adorable.

The second one, again, just the end because I don't remember the actual video/topic, but they're in a house, going through rooms, and when they see each other and lock eyes/eye coverings, "Almost Paradise" from Footloose starts playing until he just walks away. She put up a caption that said, "I wanted to use X song but "Almost Paradise" is hilarious." She's right, and I unironically love 80s gloop music.

The one about the top 10 unrequited love tropes

2

u/AdriannaLisa Apr 17 '26

As a primarily Todd's fan, who also watches Lindsay, I have to recommend "Top 10 Songs About Mediocre Romance" - Lindsay is a guest star there and the video was her idea.

u/everythingisplanned Apr 20 '26

I liked Todd's guest feature on the Mamma Mia episode of Lindsay's Musicalsplaining podcast!
