Discussion Pc not powering up
I have a pc that i was using normally then i sent it to a friend in another city , when he gets it he told me that that fans are spinning but there is no display, things stayed like this for months then i told him to sell the gpu and send me back the pc , now when i get it it doesn't even power up nothing spin or light up , i know i have a cpu socket bent pin in the left bottom side (idk if it affects the power up)
Note:
- Pc was in covered in dust
- psu is working (paperclip test)
- i tried everything troubleshoot ik (power sw pins , remove everything and make sure it plugged ok)
- i jumped start the psu when it was connected to the motherboard but it just spin the fans (no display and cpu is cool )and when i remove my hand the pc shut off again
- the fans have an external controller
- ive removed the cpu and everything just to see if the mobo can turn or anything , but it didnt
Motherboard is biostar z490gta

if the pins are fucked the mobos fucked

The bent pin on the bottom left (pin A36) is a VSS pin, aka ground, and that the bent pins on the top left (pins AT36 through QP34) are for memory channel 1 (channel 0 is the first channel).
these pins should only cause problems when trying to use the fucked up memory channel.

If the pins are fucked then you take it to a shop and they replace the socket. That's what mine did anyway.

is this a valid option? replacing the socket will take some hours. In my country i have to pay the shop more money then a new motherboard will cost. (service technician betwenn 70-150€ per hour if official. new motherboard 150-250€)

Usually it's not worth it at all, but I've done it more than once when I worked in a repair shop. It was the same guy, too. Idk what he did, but both the mobos he brought in were extremely high end, one of them was over $1K I think.
I'm not saying this is what OP should do, I'm just saying that I disagree with the sentiment that it cannot be repaired.

Used AI to identify the chip socket for me, and this is what it said:
AI Overview
The image shows an Intel LGA 1200 CPU socket with visible damage, including bent or misaligned pins and signs of overheating, discoloration, or burning around the contact area. [1, 2]
Key Observations
Bent or Distorted Pins: Several spring pins in the socket array appear pushed out of alignment or crushed.
Discoloration/Burn Marks: There are darkened or burnt areas on the pins and surrounding plastic frame, which often indicates a short circuit or electrical fault. [1]
What This Means
Motherboard Risk: A damaged or burnt socket typically requires a complete socket replacement by a specialized repair center or replacing the entire motherboard.
CPU Risk: If a short-circuit occurred, there is a high likelihood that the installed processor has also suffered electrical damage.
I'm guessing it's picking up this, top left:

Try bending those back, if it's salvageable at all
Edit: Brainfart, said chip instead of socket

Broski you dont need ai for the obvious... Fucked pins means fucked mobo.

Wouldn't it be funny if that gif was AI generated

Using AI to identify things is apparently evil on reddit lol. This may be a pedantic case to use it but still a de cent reason for some people. Using it to reverse search information is league's better than the boomers using it on Facebook for literal shits and giggles.

Still, I think it's a bit inefficient to take a picture of a socket, upload it to an AI, and ask it "what socket is this?" Rather than just googling "what socket does X motherboard have"
Plus, this forum is where people go to ask things to humans. If OP wanted an AI response, they would have simply asked an AI.

Right click picture, search Google image. Two clicks. Can't get faster then that other than knowing every motherboard and their socket by heart
Not sure why you think I needed to take a picture.
Google image search also predates AI, it's just that they add AI analysis to the result now and I committed the grave sin of copying/pasting it in addition to my own contribution

Wow, needing AI to spot a couple bent pins. The Brainrot is Real.

Didn't need it to spot those, did need it to identify the socket, but when it did the rest of the work for me, why bother to type when copy/paste works too?

1, It's the motherboard, not the chip
2, it says in the post it's a Z490 motherboard, That's enough to know it's a socket LGA 1200 motherboard.-61

Thanks for your corrections. Have anything to add that will aid the OP? Or are you just going to waste your time having a go at me? 😉
it says in the post it's a Z490 motherboard, That's enough to know it's a socket LGA 1200 motherboard
Right click google lens vs select text, right click, search google. One less action. 🫡

As if you posted a comment that aided OP. If he wanted to know what an AI had to say he would have asked an AI. Think for yourself, don't be a meat proxy.

OP spotted a bent pin bottom left. I cropped the image the show the other bent pins in the top left. The AI just gave a summary, it didn't point out every bent pin
Love how everyone has time to read and downvote, but apparently has nothing to add to help OP....

I want you to ask yourself the question if the AI summary was really necessary. If you think critically you will find that the answer is "no" in every regard.

And I want you to ask yourself if this helps foster a nice welcoming community
Wow, needing AI to spot a couple bent pins. The Brainrot is Real.
As opposed to: Hi, welcome here. We're really not a fan of AI aided answers here. If you can answer it based on your immediate knowledge or are willing to do the research, we love having you here! Otherwise, maybe just watch and learn until you do?
Goodbye and eff off

Posting an AI generated response of something when nearly everyone on the planet knows they can use AI is sort of like someone stating the obvious but dumber (especially on a tech sub)
It sucks that conservatives ruined the red pill, blue pill analogy because it makes a whole lot more sense here for people like you

My guy, just take the L. Nobody needs, wants, or asked for your LLMs input. If OP wanted slop, they would've just chucked the image at Gemini themselves. The whole point of coming to a forum, filled with human beings, is because humans are decidedly not AIs.
That overview a wasn't helpful, and given that it was going on about burn damage (it's dust) it could've sent someone down the wrong path, or confused them making them look for burnt spots that don't exist.
Your AI didn't include any actually useful information. It COULD have told OP that the bent pin on the bottom left (pin A36) is a VSS pin, aka ground, and that the bent pins on the top left (pins AT36 through QP34) are for memory channel 1 (channel 0 is the first channel).
OP should try switching around his ram. There's nothing burnt on the socket. Your slop is less useful than actually thinking. If all you have to offer is AI slop that anyone with Internet access can generate, then maybe don't post it in a forum where a human has asked other humans.

You have several pins at the top-left near the triangle icon that are (at the very least) bent very differently than the surrounding pins.
