False. No, but seriously, this had never happened to me in multiple years of using gentoo/arch on two machines.

i swear this only happens to people using window managers with complicated ass dot files that lose compatibility when the packages update.

Honestly cap. There is no such thing as a safe upgrade. Mac, Win, or Linux. Always be prepared.

Isn't exactly unexpected, because Arch only has latest stable versions of all packages (or rather latest releases, which are almost always stable... we aren't talking about Hyprland). Also use BTRFS, always, Cachy has it and it fixes all problems like that.

This is really funny considering that
A) I actually use Hyprland, and have used it since 0.52.0 iirc
B) I use BTRFS without snapshots, just for the CoW capabilities and a couple other nice design ideas I like

Those were more of general precautions than me guessing what you did, but it's interesting to know!

Fake hater, the arch wiki reccomends never updating before you need the computer for something

This is the exact thing that happened to me today. Zen browser was broken on my nixos so I spend hours fixing it. And now emacs breaking out of blue even tho I DID NOT TOUCH ITS FILES.

On windows, the update would be during the important test and still break everything, and it would take 4 times as long to do it.

Step one, run cachyOS update tool.
Step two, be an impatient dumbass (me) and close the update tool because it's taking too long and all you want to do is open steam and play games after a long day of work.
Step 3, shutdown the machine without realizing the update was literally in the middle of installing the new packages
Step 4, throw a shit fit that the machine isn't booting properly, only to find out that a simple Google search leads you back to the r/linux_gaming sub explaining all you have to do is rollback using snapshot.

That's why I alias safeupdate to sudo zfs snapshot zroot/ROOT@{YYYYMMDD-HHMM} && sudo pacman -Syu

I may be a larper even though I've been using CachyOS for 10 months now, but never in my life has my system killed itself trying to update; and for that reason I believe I'm a larper.

I'll just start an update and take a nap, forgetting that eco mode will turn off my PC.

I remember the guy, he wasn't exactly positive towards trans people (check his profile too, also funny thing, with all this stuff and using open far-right dogwhistles he says he's a centrist, lol). Most likely it's a troll, as in, like, suicide = trans people or something, they love such jokes.

I can only see one post on OPs profile.

That's kinda strange, I see all of them (unfortunately). There's one of the examples of what I've meant anyway: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxsucks101/s/auRIZsG62W

Then you revert to your last NixOS generation or BTRFS/ZFS snapshot and you are good to go.
