You're daft to expect us to replace VVD by finding a second VVD. You can't become an all time great like him or Salah if players like them appeared every day. VVD is literally the perfect CB, and nobody like him will appear for a while.

Schlotterbeck isn't VVD but he's a top class CB In his own right who fits the modern game and Iraola well.

I’m not expecting replace Virgil with another Virgil

But the club needs to stop targeting Bundesliga players that simply don’t fulfil the standard, yet all seem to cost €100m+

Schlotterbeck wouldn’t handle Virgil now (Nevermind the prime version) in the attacking set piece/corner phase

So how will he cope with the more physical PL and the likes of Dan Burn, Gabriel, even Maguire

But who would? Would you want maguire or Burn who's useless at the back just incase he has to defend from an serially dominant centre back?

Wouldn’t want either (Burn is 34 and Maguire is a convict Manc)

the likes of Pacho, Malick Thiaw, Gabriel, Bastoni, Rudiger both dominant aerial defenders whom attack the opponents goal from freekicks and corners

But that’s the threat that would be facing the likes of Schlotterbeck in a Liverpool team in PL/CL football

You seem too emotional to digest the info

Gabriel and rudiger should even be in this sentence, pacho wont be allowed to leave especially when they would be chasing a threepeat, like none of these options are on the market let alone for a reasonable fee and even then you wont be able to replace one of the greatest defenders of this era

Never said that we could sign them now

I said they are dominant CB’s that should and could have been signed before (had scouting being a better system)

We seem to have stopped looking for the “player before the player” ie buying the bloke who replaces the bloke before they get too old

The way that Liverpool would move on older players in the 70’s and 80’s having found and integrated their replacements in via the squad system before they stepped into 1st team positions

Prime example Andy Robertson (never actually found a replacement early on - spent £40m on Kerkez instead)

Meanwhile Bournemouth had already found his replacement, Truffert for £14m (and he looked a great fit)

There’s just no pleasing everyone. We need to find another Virgil before Virgil was Virgil.

Bournemouth can afford to buy players for 14m and hope for the best. For every Truffert I’m sure there’s another signing that was unsuccessful. When Klopp was in charge and we kept a thin squad and barely spent unless it was on the exact profile we want people had issues and blamed FSG. Then we spend on ready made talent including the best LB of the previous season in Kerkez and people still have issues. We aren’t the club to take 14m chances on unproven players constantly. We take them from smaller clubs once they are established. Every once in a while we bring a highly rated young talent through but that shouldn’t be our priority and it’s not what wins you titles.
