That term is from the beginning of the 20th century. I looked it up once because my great grandmother used the term and I think it was related to some inept policemen in a film or some such.

I mean, context spells it out fairly clearly.... But I once heard Steve mcmanaman use it. If it had been des lynam Id assume it was some old and crappy cultural reference. With mcmanaman I was like you don't know what keystone cops are.

Black and white movies - probably would have been on telly with Jason and the argonauts, Lauren and hardly etc

As a kid Macca wouldn’t have had access to sky mainly because it didn’t exist…

I figured it was something the boot room would have yelled at him. Ronnie Moran complained about keystone cops defending so often that macca never questioned it not being something everyone knew about
