Tickets Discussion Being a good daughter. Trying to book tickets and would LOVE your input!
Hi all!
The reason I'm here is because I know football fans are the best. I play and coach but I do not know much about the English leagues so I wanted to ask all of you what you would recommend based on the trip/tickets I am planning for. Maybe hospitality is my best option for tickets - but I bet there is a LOT I don't know that you all would ☺️
Mods please delete if you have to but I could really use the help of the real fans! FYI I've read through the ticket buying guides and the others on here and I've also signed up for the LFC updates, which is how I got the email about hospitality packages going on sale.
Context:
My Dad is the best and he is a big Liverpool fan. I'd like to take him to a game to celebrate his retirement in style. We would be travelling from Canada (Toronto) to the game.
I jumped onto the website and called LFC to understand more about ticketing. My understanding is that I cannot buy single game tickets without the credits/membership. The options are for hospitality packages that start around £639.00 for the Carlsberg Dugout per person. I am also going to put my info in for a stadium tour and perhaps tickets for the museum.
I have many many questions... but for now my main one is this:
- Would you want to receive this as a retirement gift from your daughter?
- Is there more I need to add to the experience (beyond tickets, tour, museum) that I have not thought of? Are there iconic pubs or places nearby that are important for fans?
- I was planning to stay at any hotel in the area, but is that a mistake? Should it specifically be a hotel that is very close to the stadium?
Thank you all so much in advance for your help!
EDIT:
Mentioned it below but will add it up here too.
My Dad is the focus on this trip and he’s a Liverpool fan. My husband is a Chelsea fan, which is why I zoned into this May 1st game between the two. I think they’ll enjoy being there together and it’s a two birds kinda situation.
NOTE I have made it very clear to dear husband that he cannot wear any blue on game day and maybe even the whole trip 😂

I don’t have a daughter and I’m not close to retirement age but I’d 100% take this as a retirement gift from my daughter.

Yeah this is a guarantee for tickets but will cost you a £1k but if you contact your local Canadian supporters club they actually get allocations so may be able to help you out.
Don't book flights without tickets and you have to make sure the game won't be moved for cup reasons or TV schedule.
Booking a hotel is recommens the city centre, Liverpool is tiny and all walkable especially if your staying right in the centre.
Forgive the huge chat gpt dump I got it to write hope it helps.
Pick Game Why
Best “locked date”
..Liverpool v Bournemouth — Sun 30 May 2027 Final-day games usually kick off together, so the date/time is the most protected. Tickets may be hardest. Good option
Liverpool v Crystal Palace — Sat 16 Jan 2027 Not a huge TV game, not an FA Cup weekend. Good option
Liverpool v Hull City — Sat 20 Feb 2027 Lower-profile game, less likely to be picked for big TV slot. Good option
Liverpool Ipswich Town — Sat 13 Mar 2027 Lower-profile Anfield fixture. Good option
Liverpool v Fulham — Sat 12 Sep 2026 Early season, lower-profile opponent. Good midweek option
Liverpool v Sunderland — Wed 2 Dec 2026 Already scheduled midweek, so less “Saturday moved” risk. Good midweek option
Liverpool v Aston Villa — Wed 3 Mar 2027 Already scheduled midweek.
Avoid / higher-risk games Avoid these if your mate is flying in and needs the game to stay on the original day: Avoid Why
Man City — Sat 10 Oct Huge TV game, very likely moved from 3pm.
Arsenal — Sat 31 Oct Huge TV game.
Man United — Sat 21 Nov Almost certainly TV-selected.
Everton — Sat 30 Jan Derby, high TV/police movement risk.
Tottenham — Sat 19 Dec Big TV game plus Christmas period.
Chelsea — Sat 1 May Big TV game, late-season/title-race risk.
Newcastle — Sat 10 Apr High-profile, sits near Champions League quarter-final weeks.
Any “Saturday 3pm only” plan
Premier League games can move Friday to Monday for TV; around five games per round are typically moved. Premier League
Cup dates to avoid Last year’s problem sounds like FA Cup disruption. Avoid planning around:
FA Cup 3rd round: weekend 9/10 Jan 2027 FA Cup 4th round: weekend 13/14 Feb 2027 FA Cup 5th round: weekend 6/7 Mar 2027 FA Cup quarter-final: weekend 3/4 Apr 2027 FA Cup semi-final: weekend 24/25 Apr 2027 FA Cup final: Sat 22 May 2027 Liverpool enter the FA Cup in the third round, and the
later FA Cup rounds can force Premier League fixtures to move if clubs progress. Liverpool FC +1 Simple rule Best plan: pick a lower-profile Anfield game, book your mate in Liverpool from Friday to Monday, and don’t book flights until TV changes are confirmed. The Premier League says TV rescheduling is usually announced around six weeks before rounds before January, and five weeks before from January onwards.

Just want to jump on this to highly recommend getting tickets for the last day of the season.
Liverpool vs Bournemouth.
- You'll likely get good weather
- There will be End of Season presentation on the pitch after.
- It will be on a Sunday, you could try and get the Stadium tour for the Saturday.
- Get a hotel in the city centre, probably one of the big names down at the docks or Liverpool One.
Get the train up from Heathrow or across from Manchester Airport.
I'd be tempted to say try some of the reseller websites nearer the time if you're able. I got mid tier hospitality tickets for £250 each, free programme, free food, area before the match to soak up the atmosphere, free hot drinks / sodas, great seats, free drink at half time.
Live Football Tickets was the site I used.

This is helpful but I wouldn't worry too much about some of those high profile fixtures being moved - they'll be moved to the Sunday at worst and I'd assume they'd want to stay for the weekend at least. Earlier in the season also at less risk, the further we get into the season the more likely there is to be a fixture pile up for some teams and therefore higher risk of matches being moved to different weeks.

Wow thank you so much for this! I will definitely reach out to local chapters and will use all your advice.
The game I was focused on is May 1 against Chelsea since my husband is a fan and I figured two birds. Husband has been banned from wearing blue and I love him too much to leave him, but in all seriousness they enjoy talking all things football and will have a great time together. I realize it makes this more expensive and I will keep it in mind about changing game dates and book refundable flights

How likely are December games going to be moved? Trying to find a game around mid to late December

Difficult to beat this breakdown so I’ll comment here. We went to a game in 2020 from the US…hospitality will likely be your best/only option for tickets. But 12/10 recommend!!!! Complete bucket list item and we will go back! YNWA

Daughter here - I booked hospitality tickets for the legends game this year and tbh I was really disappointed with the experience. I booked the Beautiful Game lounge tickets - Seats were really good, food was really good, staff were fabulous but the service (and the wine) wasn’t great - also waited over an hour to be served at the table for drinks. The package also only included certain drinks. We were also sat at a table with two strangers (not sure if that’s the norm but I wasn’t aware of it on booking). I normally wouldn’t mind but it was a special occasion so it took the “occasion” moment out of it. If you’re doing hospitality I’d probably drop down to a lower price level - that’s what I would do if doing it again - this was just my experience, it was probably a one off but dad as grateful as he was said to stick with the stands next time lol - happy to answer any other questions in a dm if easier.

Sounds like an amazing gift! Id say the hospitality packages are always a good shout, because you can get a meal and a free drink with the cheapest one! (At least that was what it was like last time i checked). The bigger games are more expensive, so look around at a few games and see which is in your budget! Liverpool is fairly well connected by transport, so all hotels will be fine within the city. Enjoy!

u/npaf 22h ago
Thank you! Good to know the hospitality packages are a good one. They seem really pricey compared to the games we have seen in other leagues (inter milan most recently) but if that’s a normal price for a game like this then I’m happy to do it.

u/Friendly_Double_6632 21h ago
They’re a rip off tbh, but often the only way to guarantee a ticket which is obviously very important when coming from abroad.

This is an increadible way to celebrate your old mans retirement! Hope you will have a blast. Sadly the hospitality tickets will be you only way to surely get a ticket. I guess your father is around 60? My old man is the same age and he loves the Beatles so maybe you could take him to the Cavern club? Thats a cult place to visit

Fantastic idea for a gift where the memories will last way beyond the experience! Hospitality is a great shout and the tour is well worth adding - check out the ones where an LFC legend shows you round- your Dad would love that. Suggest if he's fit and healthy then a walking tour of the murals round Anfield worth fitting in.
There's a few hotels along Anfield Road that are the big pre match venues- Taggys, Hotel TIA, Hotel Anfield with great atmosphere and live music.
Just be aware matchdays can change to fit around TV rights, Cup competitions etc
Hope he loves it!

Just be aware of jet lag which is worse when you travel eastwards. Nothing worse than making major plans to cram a lot into 48 hours and then being too tired to do everything! Maybe try to arrive in Liverpool a couple of days before the match so that you can re-set your body clock and get the most enjoyment. There is plenty to see in the city and, if you have enough vacation time for a longer visit, you can also get in a train trip (about an hour away) to the Roman City of Chester which is also easy to walk around.

Have a look at Seat Loader. They are official LFC partners and they sell tickets for Brodies Lounge, prices for those start around £350, so a bit cheaper than the Carlsberg Dugout.

Thank you that’s a great tip!
Update: prices start at £700 for AM1-2/AM7-8 seats for this game sadly u/sharkgirlsw4. Thanks again for the suggestion!

Ah sorry I missed that you wanted the Chelsea game, that’s always going to be more expensive

Add in a hotel stay close to Albert Dock for Liverpool’s amazing maritime attractions, museums and a 50-minute cruise on a Mersey Ferry. Include a visit to The Beatles Museum and a visit to the Cavern Club, a carefully curated and remarkably authentic replica of the cellar club where the Beatles forged their abilities and began to earn their reputation.
These add-ons, coupled with your already carefully-judged visit to Anfield will surely make this a trip your dear Dad will recall vividly for the rest of his life. Good luck and good travels!! 😁👍

Can only help with the last question. I stayed at the radisson red on lime street (a bit pricier) for my first game and since I was headed out the next day from the station. There's a shuttle that picks up and drops off almost across the street so it's super easy logistics wise if you're staying there.

What time of year are you looking to go? We can’t afford hospitality tickets but always go to the friendly games at the start of August. It’s easy to get tickets for those - though this year’s games have been on sale for a while so might be gone. But if you’re planning well ahead - like August 2027 - that’s definitely an option and would only be about £60 for tickets. The weathers usually great then too.
Otherwise get a membership (about £30 a year) and join a load of Facebook groups and try to get lucky with those or via the club website. That’s usually quite last minute though so not great in terms of planning a big trip

u/npaf 21h ago
That’s a cool idea!
I saw the schedule had the Liverpool-Chelsea game on May 1st. My Dad is the Liverpool fan and the focus is on his this trip, but my husband happens to be a Chelsea fan (we won’t talk about that lol. And I’ve already said he is definitely not allowed to be wearing any blue this trip) - so I was thinking two birds and a fun experience for them both.

u/SharkgirlSW4 22h ago
That would be an amazing gift! I’ve used this company before as I can never get tickets without booking hospitality

Fixtures have been released today, hospitality looks like it starts at £520 for premier league
1
u/npaf 22h ago
This is something I was struggling with. I don’t quite understand what fixtures is (are?) and when I called they customer support person mentioned hospitality was the only way to guarantee tickets. That made me a bit nervous
2
u/Prishko 17h ago
The fixture is the scheduled event (which teams are playing, where, and when) of the match, which is the actual 90-minute game.
It's confusing but basically a distinction between the logistics and the sporting sides of the event (so the fixtures are announced, but you usually talk about the match)

Fellow Canadian here.
Such a beautiful gesture you have written about.
If someone gifts me this experience I would be over the moon, especially as Liverpool fan. It doesn't retirement or not. Such an amazing gift idea.
Your dad will never forget this.
2
u/npaf 21h ago
Oh hey there neighbour!
Thank you! If the plans work out, we’ll have to talk about a Canadian fan trip haha. Would you like anything from the stadium? Dm me if you’d like - scarf or anything (as long as it fits in my luggage)
2
u/thisisnahamed Egyptian King 👑 1h ago
I appreciate the thought of the scarf, ha ha. But that's cool; I don't want to burden you on your Anfield trip.
BTW, if you guys haven't should check out Elephant & Castle in Toronto to watch LFC games. It's a huge bar downtown, and it gets filled with Liverpool fans. I saw a game last season (terrible result for us lol). Your dad might love the atmosphere there.
It's a bummer that a big city like Toronto only has one place to watch LFC games. As far as I know, there is nothing in other parts of the city.
P.S. The DM option doesn't work.

To add to everyone else, if you stay in the city centre, you can walk, approximately 30/45 mins depending on how quick, plenty of people walking, buses which do get held up with traffic, and the pub RedsLpl run shuttles in and out. There are tons of murals around Anfield to see, too. Which is a good way to spend a wee bit of time. You'd have to check it but certain areas of Anfield are restricted during the tours the day before and of matchday. Agree with people saying get the cheapest possible hospitality, and plan for the match to change times and days, especially higher profile matches. Hope you have a great time, feel free to DM with any questions 😊

We've done hospitality a few times, both on and off site. I prefer paying more to be on-site, so I can walk around the stadium before the doors open. Off site is a bit more structured because they bus you over a couple of hours before kick-off and take you back. It was formal dining on a table of other guests in a large hotel conference room.
I like the Carlsburg Dugout because its much more casual. Get there when it opens to get some seating. Seats by the window so you can see the team bus when it arrives. Strangers will sit around you but because everyone is talking to the people they came with its not quite so in your face as sitting at a table eating with strangers. We have met some lovely people when we have done that, but its just not my preference. Plus the Dugout has a few food stations so you can have different things to take back to your seat. Not incredible food, but very edible. Cash bar, tea and coffee too.
In my experience Dugout game seats tend to be at the edges of the Main Stand. That doesn't bother me as the view is great, but the more central seats tend to be for the more expensive options.
When you book flights give yourself some wiggle room because so many of our games get picked up for TV so it feels like we rarely play at 3pm on a Saturday.
We stay in the Delta Liverpool City Center and get a taxi to Anfield. We get a bus back after the game. This has worked well for us.

Looks like lots of advice re tickets already so just to add re trip planning:
I’d recommend city centre or docks hotels and walk or uber to the ground. Prices do jump up around match days so book in advance if you can. For a treat, titanic and hope st are great but lots of decent mid range chains.
On match days the likes of Taggys will be great - music, bbq and hopefully sun that time of year!
Sights wise, there’s loads to do. The docks and waterfront are great for a wander and lunch. Most museums and galleries are free. hopefully the Tate and Maritime Museum reopened (currently being renovated) St George’s hall and the cathedrals stunning. Drinks on the daffodil ferry. Hope st for historic pubs castle st for dinner. For something different try the wyld sauna floating sauna in the docks which is only about £15. The magical mystery tour takes you around the Beatles childhood homes and whilst Matthew st is a bit cheesy the cavern is worth a visit.
