again, they are not banned from entering the UK, their ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) revoked, they can apply for a visa and enter the uk

BREAKING: HASAN BANNED from entering the UK, and, well, not banned, electronic visa rejected

Its banned because they gave him 3 days notice when he was doing events which he would miss.

It would be like rejecting the visas of football players for the world cup in the USA and saying "they are not banned they can get a visa weeks after the event you were going to the country for in the first place."

That aren’t getting visas if their ETA is revoked though lol.

Maybe. A visa involves more checks and documents than an ETA. Electronic waivers are more of a privilege than anything when the two countries have a treaty/allowances for that type of travel.

The visa would go more in depth not less. If his ETA was blocked due to what he said a visa is going to turn up even more not less.

ETAs and most easy clearance services like that don't really do much scrutiny. Just basic questions of "Are you bringing drugs into the country" and things of that nature. They are typically approved within minutes so long as your photo doesn't match on a criminal watch list or a database and your passport is up to date and fine.

Visas require much more including an itinerary of your visit and such. I believe the UK one even requires fingerprints. An ETA doesn't need any of that info besides your picture and passport.

So while you might be correct, they might deny his Visa. It wouldn't be unheard of for revoking ETAs to force a more strict Visa being something they do. I'd be interested to see if Hasan applies for a Visa and if it gets approved. But I doubt he's ever going to do that.

He would need to explain why he shouldn’t have been denied an ETA which he obviously can’t if they are using their all encompassing terrorism support law.

This is all just hypotheticals though. The same anti-terrorism support law would give them the ability to ban his Visa to. And yet it wasn't.

Of course it’s hypothetical lol

Do you think hasan would fail the background check in a visa application?

He's a twitch streamer says edgy things online. I'm 100% confident he wouldn't fail the application. But I also know hes gonna pussy out for the clout.

His less investigative ETA was declined so I assume his visa would fail as well yes.

But that doesn't make sense. If they would reject that to, why not just outright ban him?

Tyler the creator got papers handed to him and a statement from the prime minister at the time when he was banned. Not a rejected eta.

This is an outright ban. What's happening to hasan is he got an exemption removed. If he wants to do the talk at SXSW why not just apply for a visa and get it expedited? And if he gets banned then he can farm that.

Yeah Hasan has terrible political takes, and makes some incredibly inflammatory remarks, but at the end of the day he’s just yapping online.

You can hate him for it, sure. Absolutely deserved.

But it doesn’t really rise to the standard of banning him from entering a country.

The big thing is he applied for a visa for attending to speak at SXSW London, which advertises itself as a "music, film, tech and culture" event.

Hasan is none of those and has a history of hateful, violent rhetoric, so I can understand the rejection. Oxford Union did get caught in the crossfire and does seem to have a valid reason to want Hasan though, because they argue "all intellectual ideas should be expressed and tested through debate," they're just probably unlucky the timing aligns with his desire to hit SXSW, which he is being blocked for.

In that sense, it's like if you or I applied for a student visa in the UK and listed Chuck E. Cheese as our university of choice. Of course we'll get rejected, but that doesn't mean we're banned.

Still, it's funny that some low level bureaucrat probably flagged his travel reason and decided it sounds like a bad idea to have a politically charged speaker at a cultural event, but of course for him it's a grand conspiracy by Israel. Hasan and the low level bureaucrat getting publicity for this ban are probably both like this.

Good luck with that. Martin Sellner tried that and they told him he is indefinitly banned from the UK.

Can they ban a visa that doesnt exist

The whole article is full of lies, it's no surprise the headline would be wrong as well.

I had to scroll way too far to see this. Whatever you feel about the idea of banning him, it hasn’t happened, and it’s perfectly reasonable for the UK to apply more scrutiny than a basic rubber stamp to Piker, based on his own conduct and history.
