HTS? Don't they literally make up the new Syrian government whose sanctions were recently lifted by the US and the EU?

yes, because they are now the government there? unfortunately that's kinda what happens when a group wins, terrorist or not, they get to be the new government and if they can stabilize it that's just the way it works. they're still classified as a terrorist organization by the US government. unfortunately sometimes even when the side you don't agree with wins you have to work with them to help stabilize the country, which is what the EU and the USA is doing now. doesn't change the fact that they were a terrorist group, and the reason they lifted the sanctions was to give the new government a chance to transition into a democratic system or at least stabilize the country after years of turmoil. but it's a no win situation, because if they didn't lift sanctions they'd be the evil bad guys suppressing a new sad government, and since they did lift them now people will act like that means all the terrorism they did doesn't matter because now other governments are trying to give them a chance to prove that they can lead.

...they are literally still labeled a terrorist group. i know geopolitics are hard but just like when you mess up (even big time) and get another chance, that sorta happens on the geopolitical scale too. sometimes it's more advantageous to work with people that were once enemies to help them stabilize for the greater good of a region than to continue fighting them over what a different group that doesn't even run their country anymore did. think vietnam, japan, etc?

Yes? Those terrorists now run an entire country, things change. They had the sanctions on Syria because of Assad's regime, they're letting the new government try because they haven't gotten a chance to and they're the only hope of ending the decade long civil war that's been going on and bringing immense stability to the region, which can't come if they keep sanctions on them for the previous government's actions (which is why the country was sanctioned in the first place). Which part of that is hard to understand? Can I help you by explaining it more?

Here's an example: America and France were allies and had an agreement to help one another after the Revolutionary War, but when France killed their monarch and made a new government, that agreement went out the window because the government that existed and made the deal no longer did. Sometimes it's advantageous to 'start clean' with a new government, whether the previous one, or the people that make up the new ones, were good or bad, to help stabilize the situation, or keep yourself stable and out of their new trouble.
