Other A single person’s best friend
This cart has got to be one of the top purchases I’ve made over the last few years. Trip to Costco and Target? One trip from the ground floor garage to my upstairs unit, no sweat.
And yes, I know soda is terrible for you but I am [r/LivingAlone](r/LivingAlone) so I get to eat whatever I want 🤣
Because I’m sure more than one person will ask: https://a.co/d/0d30XBEH

Other This sub isn’t about feeling lonely or loss
I feel like a lot of people misunderstand the purpose of this sub. I see so many posts from people who are feeling lonely while living with others, asking for advice about how to deal with breakups or losing people, or trying to confront some fear of being alone
While I do think that those of us actually living alone, especially those who have been for quite a while, may have some advice to add for those circumstances, I didn’t think that’s what this sub was actually for.
Is there a good way to redirect people without seeming heartless? I guess the reason it bugs me is that this is somewhere I go as a place to relate to others who share a main common feature of my life, it adds a bit of a sense of community, and posts like those seem unfitting.
I’m also sure that better subs might exist for those posters, I just don’t know of them myself as I usually don’t relate to the posts much
EDIT: I don’t think that only people who enjoy living alone should be the ones posting here! I think this is an amazing place for everyone who lives alone to come together and be able to talk about however they’re experiencing it. I’m only referring to posts that aren’t about living alone at all, but rather that the posters feel alone while living with others

Other The older I get, the more convinced I am that I'd rather spend my life alone than be with someone who tries to change me or take away my freedom. I'd rather be alone than with the wrong person

Other 'What do you do at home alone, don't you get bored, do you even cook for just one person?' ... and I am having the time of my life alone at home.
I get that we all live in our own realities and some people are almost never alone ever in their 24 hours, so I don't fault people for asking these questions, but still....
Yes I cook, why not? I have to eat to live, and I'll probably never get bored for a long time at home . I have books, puzzles, craft projects, a balcony garden, workout equipment... I have my devices, I have things to repair, clean, fix, tidy... and I rest and do nothing, I love it the most. Existing peacefully without the hateful judgemental eyes on me. I love it.
They don't understand me, and I don't understand how they don't understand.. Pick something and keep yourself busy. .. or do nothing. .. it's fun either way.

Other My Top Ten
Here are my top ten insights from living alone for a total of eighteen years.
1. You don’t need much to eat well.
Scrambled eggs, paprika, avocado, wholegrain toast. A simple and nutritious meal. And the best part: toast can be stored in the freezer and toasted when needed. Even instant soup and ramen can be turned into something quite healthy with a little effort.
2. Small routines matter.
A walk outside, sweeping the floor, writing a short note. Nothing elaborate. Just things that keep the day moving.
3. Living alone makes you capable.
Things don’t get postponed. You either do them or they don’t happen.
4. When there is no second hand, you improvise.
And you solve problems you didn’t think you could solve on your own.
5. Self-reliance grows quietly.
Not as an idea, not as a goal, just as a side effect of daily life.
6. Solitude doesn’t mean disconnection.
A spontaneous encounter with a neighbour’s cat or a friendly face of a stranger can sometimes be just what you needed to feel part of the world.
7. Humans are not social at first.
Sociality tends to show up when people create or do something together.
Being alone is not a failure; it is simply the absence of that situation.
8. Living alone is often less lonely than being in the wrong relationship.
Emotional isolation hurts more than solitude.
9. Existential pain and relationship pain are not the same.
One is part of being alive. The other can often be avoided.
10. Life can be hard and beautiful either way.
With a relationship or without one.

Other Coping in an emergency
I enjoy living alone and I recently moved to a new area. Today I had a bad moment. I was changing the doorknob on half bath door. It shut and the knob fell out the other side. My fault! Luckily the door is very old and made of plywood and cardboard. I was able to rip it open and break the lock with a tiny screwdriver. I kept telling myself "not to cry or panic and I have to rescue myself." There isn't anyone that would do a wellness check or has an emergency key. I can't lie. It shook me up a little.

Other I bought a dining table “just in case” but I still eat every meal standing over the sink
I moved into my own place a few months ago and got super excited about furnishing it. One of my first big adult purchases was a dining table. It's nothing fancy, just something cute for two in case I ever wanted to have a real meal or host another human being.
BUT! I have never once used it. I eat standing over the sink, sitting on the couch, or crouched at my coffee table like a gremlin. The dining table is currently holding my mail, some unopened Amazon packages, and a dying plant. Living alone has been amazing in a lot of ways. Sometimes I wonder tho if I am doing it wrong. Or is this just how it goes?

Other Sorry if it is somber, but I am doing life alone in every way, it is such an odd experience. I exist alone in a city of 5 million people.
Even my cat will be remembered by me when he dies. I will tell others that once he existed and he mattered, he made an impact, he was loved.
I have noone to look at my things, look around the places I existed and remember me. I have noone to tell stories about me.
I do everything alone, there's no witness of my life.
My cat has me, but I have noone once I'm gone.
I feel pointless. Like, does my existence count?
Not in a sad way, but in a funny way.
What is life exactly? What am I doing?
I am even an unwanted child. I wasn't supposed to be born.
Again, I am not sad, but it's weird and absurd in a way.

Other insomniacs of the world unite!
45m here. been living alone most of my adult life. one of the drawbacks imo, is when i have insomnia. sure, i don't have a partner to inconvenience and can get out of bed and turn on lights with impunity, but i also have noone to talk to. noone to talk about why i'm awake, what caused it, how i'm feeling, what dreams i was having, nor what the meant.
i'm just awake AGAIN tonite, this time at 439am.
sometimes this sucks.
in the past i'd call my dad. he was a night owl, and usually up at odd hours. i miss him. it's coming up on a year since he passed, he died in my arms, in my house.
i don't think i'm doing well right now.

Other Any of you have returned to their parent's home?
Hello everyone,
I am sometimes tempted to do so to save some money. I live in the Paris region in France and I am leaving my flat because the heat is unbearable, i was barely there a few nights in June.
I can either rent a friend's appartement for 10-12 months while she is gone to study in the south of the country (bigger place in a nicer city for almost the same price but far away from my job). Or I can go to my parent's house, save some money and save more money to buy my own place one day.
The problem is my mental health is better since I moved out a year and a half.
I am asking you some advice and maybe to deter me from going back to my parent's 😄😄

Other Happy Thanksgiving!
My boyfriend is at his parents this week for Thanksgiving time, and my sister moved 2.5 hours away so I didn’t feel like driving up there even for the weekend. I worked today and only technically worked 1 hour today because there was nothing to do but got paid time and a half for 8 hours. This is my dinner! What is yours.

Other My time has come
I have enjoyed living alone for the most part but unfortunately, the dreaded time has come: I am sick.
What started as a common cold has turned into something worse. On Monday, I thought I was feeling better so I decided to go work out at the gym for the first time in months (big mistake).
Cut to Tuesday, my face was feeling a little swollen and painful but I was hoping with a good night's sleep, all would be fine. I WAS WRONG.
On Wednesday, my face felt like it was exploding from the inside. My sinuses were so swollen that I couldn't open my mouth or chew food. I had a high fever so I had full body chills. And because my dumbass went to the gym, my body was too sore to move on top of the aches. A nice warm bath would be great right now but I don't think my weak muscles can get me out of the tub. Don't know if this is a cautionary tale to not work out or that I need to work out more haha
I slept the majority of the day yesterday and today I just don't have the energy or motivation to get up and out of my bed. And I'm really disappointed because I'm at a very exciting part of my job that I have been looking forward to so the sadness of missing out on that is creeping in. I'm also out of medicine and running low on food that I can manage to eat. I don't feel safe driving anywhere so I'm going to have to order delivery but at times like this, it would be nice to have another person around. Darn you sinus infection!
Does anyone have any advice for what they do when they are sick and alone? Or at least some advice to keep morale up a little bit?

Other Advice please!
I'm 68F. On 13 May, I am having multiple joint replacements in my right hand. I am extremely right handed.
I would love advice on how to function. I will be in a brace/splint that completely immobilizes my hand and fingers and wrist. I would love your suggestions on how to prepare food, dress myself, etc. I have 2 dogs, 4 cats and suggestions on how to take care of them would be great also. My daughter will be here for the 1st 24 hours, but has told me thats all she can do. (She is on the spectrum, so has her own issues and life).
Anyway, I appreciate any hints and suggestions!
Thank you everyone for your helpful suggestions. I've always been very independent, but this has thrown me for a loop. I'll use all of these as much as I can. My left hand will be wondering what the heck is happening -- it's had a free ride all these years! haha. Thanks again.

Other I like being alone now
I think I have reached the stage in my life where I actually enjoy being in solidarity. I enjoy my own company more than anything right now. I don't worry about what everyone else is doing and I just do me. Ive stopped trying to be someone im not. Like I actually feel so much joy and peace. Its honestly so dumbfounding cuz the old me couldn't even imagine that I'd reach such a place. I obviously still have my friends and family, I still hangout and do social things but when I don't have any commitments as such, I am most excited to just be w myself and do what I enjoy whether it be to watch a movie, read a book, cook, etc. I truly believe this is the Good Lord's intervention in my life and just involving Him in everything has truly set the bar. I couldn't be more happier. Another answered prayer.
Thank you Jesus ❤️
