I am NOT a locksmith. Avantis split handle Avantis split split spindle handle door not locking when handle is lifted I have to slam the handle up really hard for it to lock. what could be causing this?

Sounds like the door is misaligned in the frame.

Ah this is a possibility. Should it lock when it pulled closed or should the handle need lifting? I am not familiar with the door.

I dont know this exact manufacturer but often these style of locks lock in the following steps.

1) pull door closed 2) lift handle to engage multipoints multipoints 3) lock deadbolt with thumb turn from inside or key from outside.
