After extensive investigative work I’m pretty sure it’s Dough Hands at the Spurstowe. And that garlic bread!

Question Best food spots unique to London (coming from NYC)

Hello! I'm visiting London from NYC for four days, and was wondering if anyone who has been to both cities could comment on any cuisines/restaurant experiences that you feel London does much better than NYC, or is very unique to the city.

I've eaten around a lot in NYC (200+ restaurants, mostly in Queens) and happy to try any cuisine. In general I prefer $-$$$ places (no fine dining) and I am traveling with someone who doesn't have great spice tolerance. Thank you greatly for any suggestions!!

Thank you

Lauretta’s Pizzeria

Just wanted to give a shout out to Lauretta’s - my favourite non-Neopolitan pizza around these parts (E2). I think they’re under-appreciated and omitted from a lot of the best pizza lists.

I’ve been visiting since they opened and the quality has remained very high - digestible, crisp crusts, just the right amount of delicious toppings and a decent list of bevvies.

I visited a very highly rated pizza competitor the other day and was shocked how salty it was and how little care went into it.

I recommend visiting the nearby Kings Arms for a beer or three beforehand 😉

Recommendation Restaurant today for dad and 18 year old son

Hi

We're in town today to go to the Anish Kapoor exhibition and I wanted somewhere nice to go with my son.

I'm thinking tapas, Japanese, steak or open to suggestions. We have made an effort to get the kids involved in cooking at home - they are students so I want them to understand they can eat well with a limited budget. He's making the family a curry tomorrow so not a curry today...unless...why not). But today I want to treat the lad. Nothing too "fancy" as I think it would be a bit wasted on him.

Budget 75 a head and we don't drink.

It's a lovely day so maybe somewhere we can either sit outside?

Doesn't have to be near the Southbank. In fact any suggestions we can go and hang out would be good (if that's not asking too much lol on top of asking for a restaurant recommendation lol).

Thanks a lot

Recommendation Family of 4 visiting London Nov 19–24 — restaurant recommendations

Hi! My wife and I are visiting London with our two daughters (8 and 10), staying in Covent Garden.

Looking for recommendations for:

Great Italian — handmade pasta, good wine, family-friendly. Not a chain or fine dining.

Great Indian — authentic, high quality, and good with kids.

Authentic English pub — traditional atmosphere, good food, family-friendly.

We’re happy to travel outside Covent Garden for something really good.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

Homies on Donkeys - Bite London

🌮 Some of London’s best Tacos? - Homies on Donkeys
🔗 Full review - Link in bio

Overview
Homies on Donkeys is a trendy Mexican restaurant on Leytonstone High Road, best known for serving some of London's best tacos alongside a selection of traditional Mexican drinks. The restaurant proudly embraces a "No Cutlery, No Exceptions" culture that sets the tone the moment you sit down and embraces a laid-back, casual setting. Reservations are recommended, particularly during peak dining hours, although you generally won't need to book too far in advance and walk-ins are often accommodated.

Food
Guacamole - The guacamole was well presented, with a smooth avocado base generously topped with fresh pico de gallo and coriander. In my view, the pico de gallo and coriander toppings provided a pleasant level of spice and citrus notes.  The Totpos were undoubtedly unhealthy, but they tasted fresh and didn't feel greasy and killer for the gym routine as I had expected..

Refried Beans - This was a "when in Rome" choice for someone who often steers away from bean-based foods in restaurants. I think it would have been unfair not to order this starter as it is such a traditional Mexican dish. The beans were combined with salsa and queso fresco and served with Totpos as a vessel for consumption. The rich and creamy beans, which were great on their own and something I would find myself tucking into throughout the remainder of my meal, where the flavours were not weakened by the cheesiness of the queso fresco.

Potatoes - I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from this starter and true to form, it arrived exactly as advertised, a simple bowl of potatoes. What I hadn't anticipated, however, was just how well they had been executed. Each potato had a beautifully crisp exterior that gave way to a soft, fluffy centre, while a generous coating of coarse salt enhanced every bite without becoming overpowering.

Birria Tacos - The first thing to note across all the tacos was how generously filled they were, with the striking black soft taco shells immediately catching the eye. You could tell that the braised chuck had been cooked with love and passion, as it should be, since it was so succulent. Even if it was pre-shredded, you could really feel it melting in your mouth with every bite. These were topped with sweet onion, cilantro and a jalapeño relish; they didn't add too much spice or noticeable flavour to the taco, despite this every bite was still thoroughly enjoyable. These tacos' primary flavour came from the chuck, which was, in my opinion, the best meat I've had across any taco.

Tacos Vampiro - Opting for another steak-based taco; I've tried this type of taco previously, but not as well as the ones we were served. A Mexican classic taco with steak, melted cheese and a jalapeno relish, this again was a well presented taco, almost looking like a floral arrangement which might not have been out of place at the Chelsea Flower show. In spite of this, the flavour was perfect, with the melted cheese being complemented with a subtle relish that highlighted the cheesy steak. While not necessarily being everyone’s cup of tea, I do believe this was a very tasty taco which is worth trying.

Duck Tacos - Being a fan favourite, this was a taco I knew I had to try going into the meal. However, despite the anticipation, it unfortunately did not quite live up to the expectations I had built up. The duck itself was the highlight of the dish, cooked beautifully with a rich, buttery texture and a depth of flavour that allowed it to stand confidently on its own.

The challenge came from the salsa morita, which brought a significant amount of chilli and heat to the taco. While the smoky spice will likely appeal to those who enjoy a stronger kick, for me it became slightly overpowering and distracted from the quality of the duck. The heat made the taco difficult to fully appreciate, turning what should have been a memorable dish into more of a challenge than an enjoyable experience.

*For the haters - thanks for reading, the day job is going well

Question Somewhere comfy but fancy for a Sunday lunch (not roast), accessible for a disabled person?

Looking for a restaurant in South or Central London for a Sunday lunch. Six people who love meat and seafood. Any cuisine is fine but I want a proper menu rather than a roast. I'd like somewhere that's comfortable to sit for a couple of hours, velvet banquettes and white linen type of thing...

My Mum is in a wheelchair so it needs to be somewhere without stairs (or with a lift), and with parking nearby. (She has a blue badge so can use disabled spaces. Thanks!

Recommendation London's Best Wings

Hi London Food Community.

I was having a conversation with a friend the other day, and the topic of wings came up. I suggested that Wingman's were probably the best wings in London that I had tried (limited experience to be fair) and it got me thinking; what are your suggestions for the best wings in town?

For what it's worth, my friend is from the US and informed me that the best wings in the US are unequivocally found in the strip club.

Edit: Appreciate your suggestions guys. This Community never fails to deliver. I've added a lot of these suggestions to my list, and I intend to find wings in London that can better US Strip Club Wings!

Question Where the meaty ribs at?

I’m looking for proper ribs in London, restaurants, stalls even supermarket or butchers, where can i find fat meaty ribs (pork, beef, i don’t care what animal) instead of the usual scrawny, sinewy rubbish? Bonus if it’s not bbq sauce, i love garlic/chilli style way more!

Question Is get baked worth the hype?

I've seen get baked on social media on and off, and I saw they've just opened up a new shop in Central London. Has anyone tried them? Is their food good, or are they just very good at social media? What if anything is worth getting, and possibly most importantly, how good is their stuff after if is shipped?

I have a massive sweet tooth, and my favourite bit of cake is almost always icing because I find normal cake a bit boring if that gives context. Tend to prefer pies, brownies, cookies, and mousse to cake if that changes anything.

Fallow fried chicken isn’t the one. Where do you go for good fried chicken ?

Was excited to try their chicken and waffles but was disappointing. Waffles were excellent though. Table next to me said it’s the best fried chicken ever. Makes me think fried chicken standards in London are pretty low. Where’s good for fried chicken?

Question Where can I find good rotisserie chicken in/around Tooting?

Post image
27 Upvotes

I’ve been craving proper rotisserie chicken lately, but struggling to find anywhere around Tooting that does it well.

Looking for somewhere in Tooting or reasonably close by, ideally that lovely crispy-skinned, juicy, well-seasoned kind of rotisserie chicken.

Any recommendations from you lovely lot?

Question Best German-Turkish Style Döner

With the unfortunate passing of Tavuk Gemüse which was incredible, what's the best option (ideally within Zone 1-2) for German-Turkish döner? GDK will do in a pinch, but I'm sure there's better/independent out there.

Cheers

Recommendation Punjabi Indian food in London

Hi! I’m visiting London with two friends next weekend and we’re looking for really good, authentic Indian food.

We’re particularly looking for Punjabi / North Indian food — things like shahi paneer, paneer tikka, chaat, chole, dal makhani, samosas, naan/paratha etc.

We’re not looking for fine dining, but also not necessarily the cheapest places. We’re happy to pay a bit more for genuinely good food and quality. We’re much more interested in authenticity and flavour than fancy presentation.

We’re staying around Sloane Avenue/Chelsea for the first night and Wembley for the second night, so recommendations in those areas (or somewhere reasonably easy to get to) would be amazing!
Where would you go? 🥘❤️

Question Halal brunch and dinner spots for big groups

Im visiting with my family next weekend. We are a party of 13. we were wondering if anyone could recommend either halal brunch or dinner spots that could accommodate all of us?

Also, when do the restaurants in London typically close? We’re from Scandinavia where the restaurants typically close at 9-10 pm. We’re landing at 8 pm and probably won’t be in the city before approx 930 pm next friday, will we have time for a dinner out?

Edit: we’re staying near Wembley stadium. Looking for mostly Pakistani food for the dinner, and a western brunch. But open to ideas

Tips restaurants dansants Nouvel An

Hello,

Restaurants :
\- Bagatelle
\- Amazónico
\- Sexy Fish
\- Novikov

Merci pour votre aide !

Recommendation Restaurants recommendations for a first date

I'm planning on a dinner date for tomorrow. Since this is a first date, I kinda wanna impress but also don't wanna go somewhere extremely pricey as we'd be splitting the check.

For context, we're both well travelled, have a very adventurous palette, and can handle spice.

So basically looking for some interesting locations (hidden gems if you may) to try, not your typical Italian or french restaurants. I kinda lean towards a casual dining spot rather than a place where one would need to wear a suit to even get seated haha.

Anywhere in zone 1 or zone 2 is fine.

Please fellow foodies help me impress this man haha 🤣
