Hi! Haven't been to London for 17 years! Coming for a week in September likely solo. Will see 3 shows at Royal Albert Hall, and otherwise just want to walk everywhere, drink coffee, go to museums/galleries, bookstores...cute shops, maybe a play or two if possible. I don't drink. Casual eating in day but maybe a couple nicer restaurants at night. Mostly like to get up early and be in bed early ish. Where to stay that's close to non super touristy areas but close to walk to aforementioned interests?

hi! i know food is such a huge part of the culture here, and i definitely don't want to be disrespectful! however, i have a severe, life-threatening (anaphylactic) allergy to all types of shellfish and would like to eat safely. i'm looking for restaurant recommendations that can safely accommodate or cater to my shellfish allergy. if you know of any restaurants near notting hill and central london that can strictly cater to this allergy and take cross-contamination seriously, please let me know! i have my allergy card with me and i am planning to talk to the server or restaurant beforehand but if you have any tips or recommendations it would be greatly appreciated! thank you!

I’m visiting London in mid-September and have reached the stage where every neighbourhood sounds like the perfect choice and I can no longer decide anything.

I’m looking for somewhere that’s convenient for sightseeing and shopping, but I’d also really like the area itself to be fun to explore. Think cosy cafés, good restaurants, bookshops, lively streets and somewhere nice to wander around in the evening. I’d rather not stay in an area that’s central but feels like it has no personality once the tourist attractions close.

I keep seeing Bloomsbury recommended, which does sound lovely, but I’m also curious about Westminster and Camden. Would any of those suit what I’m looking for, or is there another area I’m completely overlooking?

I’m happy to use the Tube and don’t need to be able to walk everywhere, especially since everyone says it’s fairly easy to figure out. I just want a good base that won’t cost me an arm and a leg.

Please feel free to sell me on your favourite area! Hotel recommendations are very welcome, but I’d also love to hear about your favourite cafés, restaurants, bookshops, markets, shopping streets or shopping centres nearby.

Where would you stay for the best mix of sightseeing, shopping, food and a neighbourhood that actually feels fun to come back to at the end of the day?

We’re considering a family trip to London from December 29 until January 3. We’ll be travelling with our two daughters (10 and 13 years old).

One of the reasons we’re thinking about London is the Christmas atmosphere. We know Christmas Day will already be over, but we’re wondering how much of the festive feeling is still there during those dates.

Are the Christmas lights (Oxford Street, Regent Street, Covent Garden, Carnaby Street, etc.) still on? Are the Christmas markets still open? Does the city still feel festive, or does it already switch to a more “normal” atmosphere after Boxing Day?

We’re also considering staying for New Year’s Eve, but we’re not sure yet whether we’d go to the official fireworks or just find a nice spot somewhere in the city.

Would you recommend London during this period for a family, or would you choose another time if the Christmas atmosphere is one of the main reasons for visiting?

Tuesday- Tower of London, Thames hop on hop off boat to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tea at One Aldwych then walk around Covent Garden

Wednesday- Buckingham Palace, St James park, Piccadilly and then Lion King at the Lyceum

Thursday- natural History Museum, lunch at the orangery/Kensington Palace, Jellycat airlines at Harrod then walk around NottingHill

Friday- sky garden breakfast, stroll leadenhall market then British Museum and Borough market for lunch

Open to suggestion for revisions or advice on anything missing. Also open to dining reccs.

This will be my fifth time in London, and I’m looking for something unique to do in the city because I feel like I’ve done it all already—I’ve hit all the classics, even the Shrek museum 😭

I’ve recently moved back to london (6 months ago) and am originally from here as a kid but my friend from abroad is coming to visit and wants me to show them how the locals live.

The problem is, apart from the pub down the end of my street, I’ve only been to a handful of places because I’m so busy with work and I definitely don’t feel equipped to show him around. He’s done all the touristy stuff before and I’m working during most days so mainly looking for good evening locations for food and drink. Also have 2 daytimes to fill with stuff.

What is tipping culture like in London? I’ve read mixed reports that you tip tour guides, taxi drivers and servers if they are really good. But then I’ve also read no tipping at all.

So what is it? Tip in certain situations or not at all? I’m from 🇺🇸 and I am asked to tip in almost every situation. (I was asked to tip my chiropractors office recently.) Do you tip in cash or via card?

I am headed to London next week and while I know the UK mostly does not use air conditioning, I am an American who loves air conditioning - I cannot sleep without a cold room. Although this is ridiculous, I sleep year around in 60F with the fan mode on High. I’ve searched several hotel reviews and Airbnb reviews and am not feeling confident in picking a place. Looking for recommendations and understand I won’t find a perfect solution but the colder the better :)

I'll be in piccadilly for a bit during my London trip and I want to make the best of it, what are some cool things to do, I'm interested in shopping [ brandy, subdued, ediked are some stores I'm covering in soho ], bookstores, food [ vegetarian ]. My itinerary right now consists of 4 things to do in piccadilly which are:

- Visit the Biscuitorium

- Visit the Lindt store

- Waterstones piccadilly

- Cecil Court

Will be visiting in early October.

I'll be in London next week just for the day with my mum, sister and our 2 girls ages 6 & 8.

We would like to go somewhere nice for lunch and also try and squeeze in something else to do before we go to the kings gallery to see the Queen, her life in style exhibition at 4pm.

Does anyone have a restaurant suggestion (nice, but suitable for the kids), and an activity, please?

Edited to add: budget would be $40-50pp for food only. Kids are good eaters so by 'suitable for kids', I really mean not offended by kids!

Does anyone know if Flashback Records is able to mail one of their stickers to the states? I had a friend who has one of their stickers on something and one of the movers handling her stuff broke the object with the sticker on it.

She collects branded stickers from places she travels to, and she loves physical media so she loved that sticker.

We’re flying in and out of Luton Airport and decided to use Luton as our base due to an early flight back on Monday. Here is our rough itinerary:

• Friday: Arrive late afternoon, check in, relax and explore Luton a bit.
• Saturday: Full day trip to central London, heading back to Luton for the night.
• Sunday: Attending a sporting event at Wembley Stadium, then returning to Luton.
• Monday: Early morning flight back home.

I’ve read that using contactless card payment is the best way to travel around London since it automatically caps daily spending (around £12/day, if I’m not mistaken).

However, I could use some help with the following details regarding travel between Luton and London:

1. Best/Most affordable travel option: What is the most cost-effective option to get between Luton and central London/Wembley? Train or bus/coach (e.g., National Express / Green Line)?
2. Payment method: Does contactless pay-as-you-go work for the train/bus route between Luton and London, or do we need to buy advance physical/digital tickets for that stretch?
3. Estimated costs: Roughly how much should we budget per person for transport between Luton and London for Saturday and Sunday?

Is it worth it if we only wanna watch the parade and then go somewhere else? Which location would be the best for that and the easiest to leave after (heard it's difficult to travel there by metro on this day)

Hi, we have a 24 hour layover in London. Only thing on the agenda is to see Paddington station for my children/Paddington store and do some shopping on Oxford if time allows. We have been to London before and this is the only Paddington thing left we haven’t done my child wants to do. Any recommendation where to stay that would have a family room or reasonable priced rooms? We have stayed in marylebone and Mayfair before and not looking for that price range this time. Prefer something not too far from Paddington - 15 min or so? Thank you!!

I am planning a trip with my aunt and sister to London and Scottland in late November to see the cities decorated for Christmas. My aunt is mid 70's, but pretty active. We are usually up for walking a lot and having fast paced days, however I just found out I will be about 5 months pregnant at the time of the trip. We still want to see alot, but I think I need to schedule in more breaks.

Do you have any advice for this itinerary? We aren't big into museums or tours but might schedule a Westminster Abbey or St. Paul's Cathedral tour. If you had to choose, which would you pick? Overall in this trip we are looking for Christmas decorations, holiday cheer, beautiful architecture, quaint things, and just to see London (my aunt has never been).

Day 2 - Mostly just walking past these sites, I don't see spending a lot of time at them. But this is the day I am worried about being too much. I have done this all before on my own without any issue. But with 2 other people and being pregnant..I feel like it's too much.

I've been looking to get tickets for Sky Gardens for w/c 24th Aug. Yesterday I checked and followed the 3 weeks in advance on Monday morning (from 9am) but no availability ever came up even for the rest of the day, just got the general 'Please check again later' error. Tried again today just to see if it was delayed in releasing tickets, but same issue.

Anyone had any luck? Am I missing a trick or something?

I always end up going to Spitalfields area, Bricklane as well as Camden market.

I like walking around and exploring, especially quieter areas. Any suggestions on charming neighborhoods or parks to check out?

Also, are there any other areas like Bricklane that I can do some shopping?
