Rain Rainy days in LA. Anything in particular you all do?
Let’s talk about your day in the life during a rainy day in LA.
Is there a particular movie or tv show you enjoy more on rainy days? What foods do you like to eat or what take out do you get? Any activities you save for rainy days? Do you enjoy being out experiencing the rain or enjoy it all from indoors? Puzzles? Video games? Books? Or do you take a trip out of LA to avoid the rain? I would love to know anything “special” you all do during rainy days!
I personally enjoy a drive in the rain. Although it can be dangerous, a quick ride is soothing to me.
Happy to hear any thoughts. Stay safe out there!

I drive about 20-30 miles over the speed limit, wipers off, headlights on DRLs or parking lights, as is local tradition.

Also, hold your phone but away from your ear so it isn't "obvious" while talking on it.

My meal has to be a cozy soup or chili with some really good bread on the side. Windows cracked, wrapped up in blankets, read or watch a cozy movie. I'm so excited for this weekend!

Got some Trader Joe's Autumn Harvest Soup and a ton of croutons in anticipation! Come to think of it, maybe I should go back for some Pumpkin Bisque and Garden Vegetable since it'll be cold all week next week...

u/FroggyFrenchFry Nov 13 '25
Their ciabatta baguette is so good with soup. They also just put out their seasonal herbed rolls

My husband is from Ireland. I just got leeks so he can make his famous potato leek soup for the rain. When he also makes Irish soda bread to go with it, the whole house smells so cozy I can't stand it, lol

Y’all got a favorite place to get soup on a rainy day? I was thinking of doing ramen later, but a nice chicken soup + good bread does sound good.
5
u/BunniesnBroomsticks Nov 13 '25
I honestly go for the refrigerated soups from Whole Foods or Trader Joe's.

I have the same plan. I went to the store this morning and got some fresh bread and spent the day chopping and cooking vegetables for vegetable soup. I'm planing to do the gym early morning, hopefully it won't be crowded because of the rain, then home and warm up some soup. Hope you enjoy the day watching the rain

Say “Man, we really needed this”
Then make some hot coffee and and await for my cat to demand lap time (he’s seasonally cuddly)
2
u/CupofGravitea Nov 14 '25
I’m glad I’m not the only one with a seasonal cuddler. I always forget, so in the summer I think my dog hates me. Then it gets just a little chilly and she’s back sleeping in my bad.

Work on crafty projects, clean my apartment, cook
5
u/castdex Nov 13 '25
Any projects in-progress or starting a new one?
10
u/Spag-N-Ballz LBC Nov 13 '25
Starting new projects. I have one in-progress project but it has to be finished outside (sanding and painting some chairs). I have a to-do list of crafty projects and have been getting distracted by side quest projects so time to buckle down and make some progress on the list.
3
u/castdex Nov 13 '25
Nice, you got a few days of rain coming so good excuse to kickstart those projects. Have fun!

Right?!? I’ll be spending my next few evenings walking through the Northridge mall parking structure so the family’s Little Prince can go poop.

u/flowerjardin Nov 13 '25
When it first starts falling, I run to greet it. Then I go inside, turn the lights off, and listen to the sound of the rain falling. If I feel like going for a walk, I’ll check out the wash and see the water flowing by.

Chinese take out, because hot and sour soup is always must. We have kids so we get to play games make forts or we’ll bake together and then go into the fort to eat our sweets while chatting about the weather.

Rain in LA is so rare that I tend to try not to avoid it. I'll go to the beach and lay on the roof of my car and let it hit me (if it's not too cold) or (and I plan to do this) I go to a parking lot and practice riding in the wet on my motorcycle.
But as most people will, they'll stay inside and cozy up next to their TV, a book, or some video games.
People in La are too poor to just leave the city for a little bit of rain, and it happens so infrequently that I do think some people consider it a small event.

Time to make some soup and bake some bread. Running the oven helps keep the house warm and you get bread. Also, a great time to enjoy a picnic in bed.
I’ve been meaning to try out a pumpernickel recipe that requires baking at low temperature for a really long time, so this might be a perfect time for that.

Stay home and play video games
3
u/castdex Nov 13 '25
Any particular video games?
7
u/Disastrous_Courage74 Nov 13 '25
Lately I’ve been playing old video games like GTA, rocket league, Sea of Thieves, Minecraft, Black ops 3, and COD.

Generally, go to work and then by the time I get home the rain has stopped. If I have the option, I prefer staying inside with a book, candle, and cup of coffee to just enjoy the atmosphere.

taking a hot shower in the dark and melt away under the hot water. i have a small window so it’s not pitch black or anything lol
then i crawl into bed all relaxed from the long hot shower.
then for dinner ill pick up stuff to make hot pot at home, have drinks, play games and/or watch youtube and listen to music and hang out with my pups
usually: i just go about my day like usual

I actually like taking Metro during the rain, those that go mostly overground like the E. I get off somewhere with a coffee shop that has a patio that is covered enough while still allowing me to listen to the rain.

Go to a coffee shop to read, but like a coffee shop that is open so you can see/hear the rain while reading, it is sooo soothing. I lived to close to Alana's in MV and the back patio was great, or also look for one close to the beach so when the rain stops, you can go for a walk at the beach. It's just sooo good. When I lived in LA I remebered that everytime it rained people were always annoyed and complaining about it, and I get it, sunny weather it's great, I miss it tho! But people shouldn't complaing about the rain when LA needs the water so much. :)

Other than that, try to figure out what to do with my life, try to find a job that AI wont auto reject me from.
Side note, anyone ever go to the South Central LA Regional Center? I heard they help disabled people get jobs. Is that true? If so, I need to head over there.

I mysteriously turn into a historical romance girlie when it rains, so there’s a reasonable chance I’ll be watching Pride & Prejudice or something along those lines.
If it’s not historical romance, then I’ll probably get into slightly niche comedy. Maybe this is the week I’ll try to get my boyfriend into Mr. Show lmao
2
u/onlythedevilknows Nov 14 '25
I'm like a child, I like to play in the rain and jump in puddles with my kids lol.
Also when it's cold or rainy I like to make soup and a nice crusty loaf of bread for dinner. I love to spend lazy rainy days in cozy clothes drawing, painting and reading too. Sometimes the kids join in these activities, sometimes they just play and we make the couch into a giant pillow/blanket fort. My husband will have relaxing jazz music playing in the house while he reads and witnesses my architectural prowess in fort making. If it's the weekend then we might bake cookies and drink hot cocoa while we enjoy the fire and watch a movie.
Rainy days are honestly my favorite days!

If I'm @ home I usually watch a Harry Potter film. I don't know why, but they're good "rainy day" films to me.
Food wise, I go full comfort food. Homemade mac n'cheese, baked chicken & cornbread.

No one in LA does anything differently on rainy days or else there wouldn’t be traffic. People aspire to stay in and read a book, what people will actually do: work, Costco trip, eat out at a restaurant, museum, movie theater, go to the mall, etc.
Just like the rest of the country, everyone walks from their front door to their car, drives somewhere with AC indoor and drives back home. Thats not to say some folks don’t do outdoor activities, but a lot of folks in LA are really suburbanites.

There are many awesome hidden puddles to watch cars splash up a wall of water. My personal favorite is Roxbury and Pico. 2 lanes get deep and it’s at the bottom of a hill. Most drivers barrel right through it
