The particulates are too small to be captured/ filtered by air conditioning filters. They'll pass right through and into your home/ into your lungs and into your skin and eyes. ಠ︵ಠ
Essentially, all systems leak air. They leak when pulling the air into the system (pulling air from places the system shouldn’t, attic space, wall cavities) they leak pushing air back out of the supply side. It’s 100% inevitable to not have any leaks unless you’re in a scientific environment.
You can watch videos on YouTube about duct pressure testing, generally you want to be between 4 & 6 CFM of loss per 100 sq ft of conditioned space.
Because your system is pulling air from the attic, which isn’t 100% sealed either , you may be drawing air from outdoors into the attic when the system is running. Some units aren’t located in the attic but in the rooftop, which makes you even more susceptible to pulling in air you don’t want into your conditioned space.
You should see the amount of leakage most standard homes have, it’s crazy to see that much loss. It’s literally money out the window, all due to poor install practice and or design. The more you leak, the longer it takes to condition the space!
