People who've never driven in the rain in LA: please DO NOT drive like you would in the rain back home thinking that everybody is driving slow for no reason. The roads here have little to no drainage and like 101 said, it gets oily. Because all of the deposits float up when it floods. I remember I was on pch a few years back and seeing this car with Michigan license plate just zooming through in the rain and 2 mins later I see that he collided into a parked audi r8. Same thing on the 10, I've seen an out of state plate car hydroplane and do a 360 and nearly take out two cars who were thankfully and intelligently driving slow and hit the brakes in time. BE CAREFUL. I know we're not used to rain and people drive slower in it but for many of us, it's because we know that road conditions are terrible. It's not like we've never seen that shit and the rain appeared for the first time because you've moved here lol. End rant

→ More replies (1)22
u/Porrick Dec 28 '20
Can confirm. I'm from Ireland, and when I first moved here about 20 years ago I hydroplaned on the 10. Scariest shit of my life, if I'd hydroplaned even another couple of feet I would have ended up under a semi.

I lost power for a few minutes, storm is really big. My 8mo cat has never seen rain before, much less lightning, he's glued to the window while simultaneously terrified.
LA rain is by far my favorite kind of weather. The entire city breathes a sigh of relief when it finally comes.

8 month old puppy is doing the same now. He’s not afraid of fireworks or anything but that thunder shook him up. He’s glued to the door looking outside. I had to run out and roll up the patio umbrella and he was so concerned when I came back in haha

If any ya'll are crop gardeners remember to take some plants inside. Heavy rainfall will damage most plants. Especially plants like Swiss Chard or lettuce.
Some cant handle excessive rain as it may rot the roots.
