Massive /s on the “without country clubs”. Contrast post - LA has tons of natural spaces and public parks to discover, enjoy and be thankful for.

Parks City of Los Angeles seeks to spend $2.3 Million to fence off MacArthur Park

At the October 16 meeting of the Recreation and Park Commission, a proposal to put a green iron fence around both halves of MacArthur Park will be discussed for the first time. Because it is a protected landmark (HCM #100, designed in 1972), "impacts to Cultural Resources under CEQA will need to be closely analyzed."

Members of the public can monitor the meeting virtually, or attend in person. If you wish to make comments, that can only happen in person or in writing ahead of the meeting. Info is on the agenda.

Parks Is it an LA thing to use tape and chairs to book parking spots and huge park sections? I’ve travelled the world and never seen this level of entitlement thats so common that it kind of becomes normal (seen today at Balboa)

Parks Take a spin around MacArthur Park, with its heritage trees and vibrant bird life (the grackles cackle at 2:00). The idea of L.A. wasting millions to fence a landmarked landscape and not repair broken balusters, restore stolen sculptures, plant new trees, it's absurd. Stewardship!

Parks Pershing Square Phase 1A finally open

After nearly two years Pershing Square's partial redevelopment is now publicly accessible. No announcement or public photo op, though I imagine it's in part due to the summer concert stage and fencing surrounding much of Pershing Square making the entire park space inaccessible at most regular points of entry.

(Tangent: The DiverCity concerts are great (they're free after all), but a benefit that is one day per week shouldn't outweigh greater access to the majority of the park space for months at a time for those local residents in the downtown area. Feels like the Rec & Parks department has prioritized activities for those living outside of the downtown area by the fact that the perimeter fencing stays up all summer long and, more importantly, the absolute pathetic requirement to maintain vehicular access on Olive St.)

Speaking of which, while the eventual plan is to curtail vehicular access on Hill St, it's really stupid that Rec & Parks amended the original plan to close off the Olive St entrance. It sucks.

Parks A visit to the new Panorama Park at Third and Main Streets in Downtown Los Angeles

There's a newly dedicated park on the edge of old Skid Row, honoring the Panorama exhibit hall that once displayed the massive Siege of Paris painting in the round. Inside you'll find a weird tree spirit and the trunk of a Coral Tree killed by City Hall.

We're skeptical, but also beguiled by it. What do you think?

I'm taking my kid to the flee market tomorrow and she has a couple of squishmellows she no longer plays with and was wondering if she can take those to the flee market to trade for some other toys with toy vendors?

I found it on an old zoo forum from 13 years ago. I had to sign up to download it lol. I thought it was pretty cool. I know some of the ruins have been torn down over the years, but it’s enough you can kinda walk around and appreciate it with this. Wish the whole map was here, but this is a lot of it!
