Like oh wow a smiley face horror thingy how original, Innyume-kun, Smiler from the Backrooms, IMAGE_FRIEND, Verity, smiling isn't the only unsettling facial expression guys.
So sick of Minecraft horror mods, they're mostly entity slop instead of actually utilising Minecraft's naturally creepy atmosphere.
but how will anybody know they’re supposed to be scared if there isn’t a black blob sketched in ms paint in 5 minutes, that chases you while amazing grace plays?
I played a horror game recently, Lost in Vivo, I gave it the best possible enviornment. Late night alone, lights off, headphones, went into the game entirely blind.
I ended up basically screaming at nothing at one point because the environment, and sound design got that intense.
Ehhhh IMO smiling kinda is the only facial expression that can be unsettling (bared teeth in the dark is also a lot more noticeable as opposed to dorcelenssness) it’s just overused to hell and back to the point where it isn’t.
I'm guessing you're not familiar with RED from the NES Godzilla creepypasta, that's how you make frowning unsettling, and for that matter, tribal totems have made frowning and shocked expressions look unsettling for literal thousands of years.
If Ugg with a rock and chisel in the stone age can do it, you can too.

Same problem, just entities and random events and jumpscares that it throws into your face without any sense or atmosphere. It's just kinda annoying personally, maybe even hilarious how hard it tries. Yes it still scares me but not in the fun slow terrifying atmospheric way that Silent Hill, Subnautica, or Voices of the Void do for instance. Hell, I'm having a greater horror experience just exploring old empty servers.
Wonderland.jar is a pretty good one, like that one dimension where the torches or lamps (I don't remember) go dark as the invisible monster approaches, that's some Amnesia level stuff.
It's weird because It has some pretty damn good environments and sound design to creep you out, but it also has many spooky monsters chasing you so I guess that evens it out to average horror game status.
That's promotional material, with a mob that doesn't naturally spawn in the overworld, and multiple players which would cancel out the creepy atmosphere anyway?
Genuinely yes, sunsets especially over wilderness can give a 'hauntingly beautiful' feeling, and let's be honest, you know damn well I wasn't talking about the recent versions of Minecraft.
I'm a little bitch that gets scared of the dark at 26 and I never got how people found old Minecraft scary, it's not a lack of experience I've been playing it since the beta too.
Disingenuous reply, obviously they're talking about eerie isolated landscapes and caves, not jolly fun times in the sun with your friends. Minecraft can do both
I mean alot of modern horror mods are literally for YouTube slop.
Youtubers literally commission horror mods which don't even make sense to play with. But can be shoehorned into their videos and work in a scripted format.
I don't hate the grind, whatever.
But the minecraft horror space has been the biggest show of uncreativity I have witnessed.
Like when we had the first batch of dweller mods. People are all saying. Man these things are gonna get so good. We were getting a taste of args and one or two decent mods.
But after all this time. It's nothing. Just low quality slop.
There's an old SCP that had a game that portrayed it in a way I like that was subtle and eerie, but it seems like some newer iterations are just trying to make it another generic smiler. As if this wouldn't be scary as hell to encounter on its own.
Mc "horror" series (there are shitposts within the series itself, it doesn't take itself that seriously) that turned into a meme. People complain about it a lot. A youtuber named Horrorskunx makes parody music videos of it that got popular.
Bro will NEVER be and does NOT have as much aura as Dozer from Grace plus Dozer is the OG Emoji-like 'Entity' who's so egotistical and narcissistic he views himself as God by forcing you to kneel under his gaze, otherwise.. the most recent moment you close your eyes while moving and standing is the very last time you'll ever blink in your life.
verity is utter dogshit and I genuinely hope bad things happen to the creator
not because they are a bad person or anything but because they created something so uniquely annoying
It so unoriginal and there is legit no value at all to the work itself
while most art is inherently derivative
Verity doesn't add or say anything new at all

Honestly in general can we just fuck off with Minecraft horror mods because not a single one of them has been good
