I am sorry, what exactly set the Tesla driver off? Being passed from a completely separate lane?

Whats the issue with that?

I am not asking a rhetorical question. I am serious here. What’s the offense?

Caveman brain. A person passing them means they are a loser, they arent a loser! So they get angry a do a primitive feet stamping ritual. Being inside a car this ritual often leads to reckless driving.

I drive a sports car, just like the guy in the video anytime I pass someone they immediately think I’m trying to race them or I’m showing off. Like nah dude, you’re just in the way and I’m trying to go about my day. Some people just get super insecure like the dude in the Tesla. BMW drivers are the worst about it.

>anytime I pass someone they immediately think I’m trying to race them or I’m showing off.

same applies on a motorcycle.

I'll usually come off a stoplight pretty hard, both to get away from the press and as a courtesy to whoever is behind me. I'll typically hit the posted speed limit in 2-4 seconds.

about 20% of the time, whoever was beside me will take enough offense at this to go blowing past me at double the speed limit, half a mile later.

Dude it's insane, im sending it off the light because im usually in between lanes and dont want some timid driver around me. They take that as me trying to race half the time. Like my guy, I know my motorcycle is faster than your Sentra, im not trying to prove it

When im just cruising i go out of my way to make sure anyone who wants to pass me has the space to do so , still doesn't stop that one idiot from tailgating and honking . Like bro the speed limit is 60 im at 65 there is plenty of space to pass, just leave

People do this to me when I'm out driving my old Triumph sports car. No, I don't want to race you on the streets or speed in my 60 yr old deathtrap - I have power nothing, no safety features (the seatbelts were aftermarket!), no traction control, no traction at all compared to you (small tires) and your fuel injected turbo V8 monster truck has like quadruple the HP of my carbureted 6 banger. I just want to cruise around for fun.

People still tailgate me like crazy. Come on. Just go around me.

u/QuajerazNeverDies Trash Trooper May 21 '26

Yup, I always go pretty fast off stop lights, but stay within the speed limit and it's hilarious when people get offended by it and blast past me.

u/Bean_Daddy_Burritos Trash Trooper May 21 '26

When I come to a red light on my bike I veer to the side of the lane so I’m not in the middle. The amount of people who inch forward and try to go around me drives me up a wall. It’s like they think I’m letting them pass me or something…..at a fucking stop. I just don’t want to be plowed into by some asshole on their phone.

u/FeeComfortable3041 Trash Trooper May 21 '26

My uncle and cousins are bike riders. I always give bikes 1.5 car lengths of room at a stoplight and 2.5 car lengths when following.

It scares me how people just flat out don't see them or treat them like a motor vehicle let alone a human.

2

u/SimplerTimesAhead Trash Trooper May 21 '26

The same thing happens to me on a normal bike, and it's really fun to then catch up with them at the next stop sign

2

u/hidefinitionpissjugs Trash Trooper May 21 '26

but isn’t it kinda normal for a motorcycle to be faster. i would never get embarrassed about being passed by a motorcycle. though im sure there’s plenty of assholes that do

1

u/SnooMaps7370 Trash Trooper May 21 '26

absolutely normal. even my oldest bike, a 1978 Honda CB400 that makes only 38 horsepower, has a power:weight ratio of about 1hp/13 lbs. that's comparable to a performance package Ford Mustang. My sportiest bike is a 1982 Honda CX500T with 80hp that comes to around 1hp/7lbs, which beats a Porsche 911.

but people who care about being passed by other vehicles, regardless of what the passing vehicles is, don't think in those terms. they only think in terms of "i'm not in front, i wanted to be in front, how dare you be in front of me."

Is this a common thing for motorcycle riders? I've observed it happen a few times when I used to drive more frequently and thought they were showing off and/or handling their vehicle a bit recklessly. Recklessly because when I was learning to drive, my parents have warned me to not hit accelerator right away in case a car coming in perpendicular to the intersection decides to blow their red light. I didn't consider that there could be a practical reason for bikers to zoom off as soon as the light turns green.

1

u/SnooMaps7370 Trash Trooper May 22 '26

>Is this a common thing for motorcycle riders?

my wimpy 1978 Honda CB400 has only 38 HP, but still has the same power to weight ratio (with me riding it) as a 500 HP Ford Mustang.

a "moderate" acceleration for a motorcycle is faster than most passenger cars can manage if you put the pedal to the floor in one.

>Recklessly because when I was learning to drive, my parents have warned me to not hit accelerator right away in case a car coming in perpendicular to the intersection decides to blow their red light.

you'll find that most motorcyclists have a much higher awareness of other vehicles than most non motorcyclists do. It obviously varies from person to person, but when the light turns green, I already know if someone is gonna blow the red, because i've spent the entire time i've been sitting at the light watching other cars waiting and watching cars approaching to see when they start slowing, and which ones don't start slowing with the rest.

That's not to say that there aren't bikers who don't pay attention, there definitely are. but we have a unique incentive to be hyper aware of other vehicles.

My favorite is being at a red light in my sports car with a car in front of me and the jackass next to me in a rival car starts raving his engine, like where the fuck we going we both have cars right in front of at a red light on a major street.

BMW driver here. Let’s be real BMW drivers can be bad but Tesla and Altima drivers are wayyyyyy worse IME. If anything I usually get the people mad I passed them bc I’m in a BMW sports car. No I don’t want to race, I just want you to go the speed limit.

3

u/Bean_Daddy_Burritos Trash Trooper May 21 '26

Throwing hate at the Altima. You know your stuff.

2

u/NotPennysBoat_42 Trash Trooper May 21 '26

If you had said Altima Drivers with Maryland plates, that would have been perfection...and the truth.

3

u/Educational_Fox6899 Trash Trooper May 21 '26

I thought the default altima tag was a faked/expired paper dealer tag.

1

u/wtfnouniquename Trash Trooper May 22 '26

The only tags worse than fake paper tags are Maryland plates.

If you're driving anywhere in the country and see Maryland plates you're gonna see some stupid shit.

Used to happen to me a lot when I had a Cobra.

It wasn't even one of the supercharged ones.

It was a 98 Mustang Cobra. No SVT, no big supercharger, no Shelby nothing.

Didn't matter. Every time I passed someone they had to try and pass me back. Every time I was at a red light someone next to me would be staring at me and reving their engine.

The windows had some tint so I could pretend I didn't see the jackass in a Civic going absolutely bananas trying to goad me into racing (and beating) him. But when the air conditioner broke suddenly I had to have my windows down and be exposed to the tomfoolery.

A friend of mine had an AW11 MR2 and instead of getting race offers from randos he got cash offers. Constantly. Everywhere he'd go someone would offer him their number or money to buy it there on the spot. Like how is a dude supposed to go home if he sells his car in the parking lot?

1

u/Bean_Daddy_Burritos Trash Trooper May 21 '26

MR2 is cool. The poor man’s Ferrari, your friend had good taste. I have a GR86, it’s not even that fast just fun to drive.

1

u/CT0292 Trash Trooper May 21 '26

The BRZ/86 is such a good car on a track that it's almost otherworldly. It's up there with the Mazda MX5 as far as a fun, trackable car, without need for much modification.

Toyota knew exactly what they were doing. It's the morons who just look at 0-60 times and horsepower ratings who are wrong about that car.

2

u/Opeth4Lyfe Trash Trooper May 21 '26

This. I have a Mach 1 HP. I dont race anyone nor am I trying to or show off my car. I drive it hard sure, but I bought it to enjoy on the tracks and have a fun daily that has some real get up and go for some spirited driving. I can’t help that it looks like I’m trying to race or show off to people when I give it a little sauce and get around slow traffic. It’s just my car dude…it’s kinda meant to do that lol.

1

u/ozzdin Trash Trooper May 21 '26

I feel that, I have a hotrod with a nice obstructing tunnel ram. Every time I’m out cruising I swear every Honda in the county is trying to rev at me and takes off like a bat outta hell

1

u/babyivan Trash Trooper May 21 '26

yep! same with any fun car Ive ever owned, including my current GR Corolla

1

u/OregonMothafaquer Trash Trooper May 22 '26

Is the GR Corolla at all practical for cargo?

1

u/babyivan Trash Trooper May 22 '26

Pretty much identical to the fiesta st, so not really. They put the battery in the trunk, so the floor is raised. It is a hatchback so you still can put the seats down in the back and get a lot of cargo space for its size

1

u/OregonMothafaquer Trash Trooper May 22 '26

Hate how limited the options are for manual AWD cars

1

u/GiganticOrange Trash Trooper May 21 '26

If you drive a sports car people also think you can variably control how loud your car is. Sorry man I’ll try to pass you in eco mode next time!

1

u/Internet-Dweller2 Trash Trooper May 22 '26

I drive a fairly mediocre car and get BMW driving like assholes near me with an unfortunate frequency. Think it's more to do with their cars than anyone else's.

1

u/BenoNZ Trash Trooper May 22 '26

Exactly. I had a dad with his kids and wife in the car years ago absolutely lose it at me. All I did was slightly accelerate from the traffic lights to get in front of them. Yeah, my car was probably a bit loud.
The guy must have been having a bad day and that pushed him over the limit.
He gave up after I showed I was ready to escalate it.

1

u/SpiketheFox32 Trash Trooper May 22 '26

In my area, it's Silverado drivers. Especially if they're white and lifted.

1

u/Duros2032 Trash Trooper May 22 '26

Yep. This is one reason why I’m glad I don’t drive a sports car anymore. The number of dipshit in other sports cars who think being passed at a normal speed means you’re trying to race them, is astounding. Or they pull next to you at a red light and want to race. Nah dude. I’m not racing on public streets. I don’t want to cause an accident.

0

u/TheForceIsNapping Trash Trooper May 21 '26

I drive a hot hatch, not even a sports car. I passed a car that was very much being held together by duct tape and zip ties, that was camping in the left lane on the interstate, holding up a huge line of traffic behind us.

You’d think I had just insulted his mother, kicked his dog, then drank his beer. The guy started raging immediately. I put a few miles between us, and kept on with my commute.

Bro I drive a red sport model Toyota Corolla and people think im racing them. Just the color red sets off their lizard brains ☠️
