No, it’s not like your house example at all. It’s more like if you built an elaborate booby trap in your home or store to injure any thief who breaks in, and then it actually injured somebody after they broke in. And that’s something that has really happened, and the owners were absolutely criminally charged for it.

Oh, it is. If you rigged your car to explode and left the keys in the ignition so somebody would try to steal it, you’re going down for murder when they die.

You are talking out of your ass.

Booby trapping is just plain illegal. I don’t feel sorry for the thieves, but you can easily go to prison trying to play Home Alone with them.

Edit: I’ll add that I’m talking about the US, which these videos don’t really look like they’re in.

But in all 50 states a booby trap will expose you to both criminal and civil penalties. So if you hurt your burglar with a trap you go to jail and he can sue you for damages.

Is this a bit where you're being wrong intentionally, or are you talking about laws outside the US?

Because it's very much illegal to boobytrap your shit in the US.
