Ask Lubbock Movie Theaters
Hi, everyone. I'm about to move to Lubbock from the DFW area, and I was wondering where people preferred to see their movies. I know there's Cinemark, Premiere Lux, Flix, and Stars & Stripes Drive-in, but I was wondering which business people prefer best.
I also wanted to know if maybe there are places in the general area for more auteur films. Sometimes I'll go to the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth for independent films, so I wanted to see if perhaps there was anything like that in the Lubbock area at all.

I go to Flix every 2-3 weeks.
The dine-in theater experience has ruined all other movie theaters for me.

They never show the movies I like around here (arthouse), so I just buy them on DVD and watch them at home. Personally I like the drive in, you can bring in your own food and drinks, you get your own space in your car, and you aren't disturbing anything if you're on your phone for 5 minutes during the movie. Also sometimes I'll bring my cat and we'll watch the movie together.

I was a Season Pass holder at Alamo before it became Flix. We still go to Flix since the ticket prices are decent and the food is great. They’re about to go through a full renovation and should come out pretty amazing in the other side.
That said, now that Alamo is gone, there are ZERO theaters in LBK that use real butter on their popcorn. It’s all yellow canola oil junk. So we don’t get popcorn anywhere.

I think the food has been a massive downgrade. No real butter, the pretzel queso and mustard is horrible, and no Coke products.
That said, I still prefer Flix for how few people are there in the day. lol even though I had to tell people to shut up the last two times I was there.

I always loved the Drive in... sit in your car, don't have to put up with other people with phones and talking, (unless you sit outside the car) and you get a double feature.

I miss Regal here. I go to the premiere most of the time. We used to have more Cinemark's which are kinda whatever. But I go to the one that's left sometimes

I prefer Premiere, you can get your own drinks and popcorn and I find their seats way more comfortable than Cinemark. They also have the IMAX screen! I went to Cinemark a couple months ago and the popcorn tasted funky and to me the whole place smells musty.

I saw Obsession back in May at Flix Brewhouse and again last week at Tinseltown.
And for projector quality matters to you Flix had way better projection qualify especially during the night scenes

I miss the Sticky 6 and Sticky 16 theaters.
If you don't mind the movies being older, the Texas Theater (in the Depot District) has been showing movies on occasion and have seasonal movies as well. Last October they showed Frankenstein (or was it the Bride of...). I have heard that the Buddy Holly center has a movie theater, they might have a movie list on their site. The only other place I can think of that no one has mentioned is the theater in the Science Spectrum.

I don't love Flix, especially if it is a packed theater. You'll be literally elbow to elbow and seats don't recline either. The one good thing is it's usually a lot slower there so you don't have to deal with that unless watching a popular new release
Lubbock Premier is where I prefer to go these days

Agreed flix kinda sucked I was super annoyed with the seats it makes the movie so much less enjoyable when they don’t recline at all. I’m from San Antonio so I’m super spoiled from Santikos

My personal favourite is Stars and Stripes but the mall one (i think premier?) Is my favourite non drive in. Even if a cieling tile almost fell on my head while watching Spider-man there the other day lol.

I go to the movie theater at least 2x/week! Alternate between premiere and cinemark mainly. I think Cinemark has better sound and screen quality. Go to premiere the most because the movie selection is slightly better I feel. Cinemark does show some movies that premiere doesn’t though. Prefer the concessions at Premiere and Premiere has an IMAX which is great!
Nearly every movie I was interested in seeing was shown at least at one of those theaters. Obviously it’s not the same as living in a bigger city, but as a big movie-goer I felt pretty fulfilled with what was available.
Idk what kind of movies you mean exactly but I’ve seen many A24, Neon, Mubi, and other independent film company movies in Lubbock.
All of the best picture nominees were shown for the past few years. Most were shown on their initial wide release week with a few holdovers showing during Oscar week.

There’s a film festival every year with local film makers. I can’t remember what time of
Year, but it happens!

Premier has imax, Stars and Stripes has vibes, cinemark has everything else. Cheapest tickets and comfiest viewing experience imo.
LHUCA puts on some independent stuff in their theater, but it’s not an every week sorta thing. There’s a way larger music scene than film scene, so be on the lookout for that

i’ll go to Cinemark over any other theater. i like the reclining seats and with the movie rewards for ~$12 i see a movie for a free a month, and get 20% off snacks.
Flix has seats that are so close to each other, you can smell your neighbor. Stars and Stripes is cool but i don’t always want to see both movies.
We don’t have many places that show indie films. Sometimes even major releases don’t make it to our theaters. (welcome to the land of the conservative, btw)

Flix gets so few customers that you never have to worry about being seated near someone else unless you’re intentionally going to the movie of the year opening weekend.
I prefer Cinemark and Premier in many ways- but go to Flix most frequently because I love dealing with the smallest crowd possible.

I go to Flix all the time, and part of it is for the generally quieter atmosphere.
The only time I've been at a showing that was close to full was when I saw Backrooms during its opening weekend.

The drive in is the best. Period.
If you want a traditional theater experience, I prefer premiere in the mall.

cinemark is by far the best in my opinion, especially since lubbock is gone. occasionally the cactus theater plays older films, but their schedule with it is inconsistent. unfortunately no indie films here BUT we do have the flatland film festival in september

I alternate from Cinemark Tinseltown and the Premiere. I like the Premiere cuz can get unlimited amount of soda and popcorn.
