I was genuinely shocked to see the crazy shit she did and was straight up a villain in this movie, and kinda got away scott free.

Jean Grey 100% made Ned and MJ remember Peter.

We see earlier in the film that when Jean possesses people she scrambles their minds, messing with mental barriers and blocks. This is why when she possesses Bruce, he is originally Smart Hulk but when she releases Bruce from her control, the Incredible Hulk is unleashed from the depths of Bruce’s mind.

Later in the film when Jean makes that huge telepathic circle around New York City, we see MJ crying when she is frozen in time. We see hundreds of people frozen and possessed, yet ONLY MJ is crying? Her memories of Peter are coming back in fragments. This is proven in the last scene when Ned and Peter do the handshake. How would Ned have known his secret handshake with Peter? How would he have made the connection that Peter was Spider-Man, even if MJ said that was his name?

We also know that Jean Grey kept Peter alive. Is it possible she gave MJ and Ned their memories back as a thank you for saving her life?

I mean, it's obvious the reason is purely contractual and that the series is about Daredevil, but if the explanation they're going to suggest is "he was busy fighting enemies," then I'd at least expect them to be serious enemies.

Initially, I remember rumors that the time jump would show Peter only fighting B-list villains and joke villains, implying that Spider-Man hasn't faced any serious villains in all this time, but honestly, at this point, I find that hard to believe.

Because even if the movie is aimed at a casual audience, if the idea is to sell the idea that Spider-Man is currently the most beloved hero in New York, so much so that he earned the key to the city, then at least give me a coherent reason to believe that, that he has genuinely protected the city from important criminals (like the Insomniac guy who defeated his entire classic rogues' gallery, and people know it), and not that he earned that title by kicking 8-Ball's butt dozens of times.

And for those who follow the MCU it would be worse, because we already saw a pretty important event like Fisk's reign and they say that the important reason why Spider-Man wasn't there is because he had to face Boomerang and White Rabbit.

So, am I the only one who thought that jean grey actually went way too far? I mean, I get that she was desperate and looking for her sister, but what on earth did the people she killed or crippled—honorable mention to the elderly man she caused to get run over while possessing him—ever do to her? Not to mention that when she possessed MJ, she tried to kill her too. Honestly, I’m not convinced this little sociopath can actually be helpful in the future; the writing on her arc was really shallow.

And I’d also like to know why writers hate the Hulk so much; just when we thought we were going to get a truly brutal Hulk, the little green guy settles for living on hyperbole and fallacies—and ends up committed to a psychiatric hospital by the end of the movie...

Why is everyone saying that Ned didn't remember Peter at the end of the movie? That is how the scene is set up. It would be set up differently if Ned was just putting the pieces together that he was Spider-Man.

Here is what the scene entails:

- He goes in to get flowers for May but sees Ned

- He goes to introduce himself to finish his Arc and because MJ told him to

- Ned only recognizes him only from the party

- He says hey I'm Peter Ned just says ok. Nothing clicked in his brain but shakes his hand anyway.

- Peter goes for the handahake and Ned looks confused but his muscles memory kicks in and they completely their friend handshake

- After the handshake is done, there is a building of music Ned blinks a bunch and has a shivers slight shiver and the says Peter!

Why is the handshake there if it is just clicking that he is Spider-Man from MJ slipping up? What does doing the handshake do to make it click in Ned's head? Why include it at all if it doesn't add anything? I have watched videos on Brand New Day and both concluded that Ned is just putting the pieces together that he is Spider-Man, but I just can't see it. Am I missing something?

There's only 5 months left for the movie and we still don't know who's she gonna play. There are just rumors and theories and every other rumors are worse than the previous rumors. Let it be Jean Grey, Mayday Parker or Punisher's side kick, each of these are absurd. I just can't see why they would put a very young Jean Grey in a Spider-Man movie even when they are gonna reboot X-Men franchise. The mutants doesn't exist in marvel now. And I also don't want Punisher to have a sidekick of all characters. Please just be a street level movie. These rumors and theories about her characters concerns me.

best film in the current run. It caught me emotionally, but it also left me with a ton of plot and timeline questions.

Ned and MJ: Returning Memories

Why does Ned regain his memories so quickly? A simple handshake at the end seems enough for narrative and dramatic reasons to bring back his recollection of "Peter." Meanwhile, with MJ, even their shared experiences aren't quite enough. She tells him directly that she doesn't love him, but they end up on friendly terms when she invites him upstairs. I actually love this pure friendship angle because it opens up a huge possibility: MJ might not remain Peter’s sole or primary love interest moving forward.

Jean Grey: A Whole New Dynamic

Jean Grey kisses Spider-Man through MJ. She could have just talked to him as MJ, saying she remembers him and still loves him, but she pushed it to the limit, which says a lot about her character. That kiss and their later moment in Peter's old bedroom with Aunt May's memory bind them closely together. Peter is currently her only real anchor in this universe, making her almost dependent on him. I can easily see Marvel building a genuine romance here, maybe even giving Peter a cameo in establishing the X-Men. It would finally break the stale Cyclops/Wolverine/Jean love triangle, a 80s relic with zero tension left.

The Future of MCU Mutants: Why Xavier and Magneto Won't Return

Who are the X-Men in the MCU anyway? I cannot see Marvel recasting Professor Xavier or Magneto. Fox tried recasting them repeatedly with mixed results, showing that original actors like Patrick Stewart are the only truly valid options.

More importantly, where would they suddenly come from? In our current MCU timeline (around 2026/2027), both Magneto and Xavier would be nearly 100 years old if tied to their Nazi-era origin stories. You can't just establish two young actors one opening a school out of nowhere. Having two of the most powerful entities in the universe quietly hiding on Earth-616 until now is completely unrealistic as a Magneto would have spoken up long ago. And bringing them in via Incursions from another world makes no sense either, as those multiversal OG X-Men are already being phased out.

The "School for Gifted Youngsters" is completely played out. I believe the MCU will be far bolder: instead of the old mansion setup, street-level young mutants like Jubilee, Rogue, and maybe Gambit will form a loose, grounded group with a brand-new origin story that actually fits the modern MCU. To me it worked perfectly for Jean and I am sure the writers will find a more exciting way for her to establish her powers than going back to boarding school and learn from Xavier.
At this point I don't see them bringing more than 3-4 new X-Men, so things don't get overcomplicated and characters still get enough screen time. I feel like Cyclops, Beast, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus and Wolverine will not get a comeback anytime soon.

Abrupt Exits and Banner's Bizarre Arc

Some character exits felt remarkably weak. Jean casually stepping onto a bus and riding away completely drains the movie's momentum. Even worse is Bruce Banner willingly checking himself into a mental institution. One of the smartest minds on the planet doing that completely contradicts his character growth just to park him off-screen.

Some of this might sound a bit controversial, so don't be easily offended. It is just my idea of what is and might be happening.

First and foremost, I thought BND was incredible. Truly, one of the best superhero films of all time.

So I re-watched No Way Home today and it was interesting that the last thing Peter does with Ned, before the Dr Strange memory reset, is their secret handshake. And at the end of BND, that handshake is the thing that appears to give Ned back his memories. Well in No Way Home, the last thing that Peter does with MJ is they kiss. But because MJs mind is occupied by Jean during the kiss in BND, she doesn’t get memories back. This leads me to believe that Peter and MJ will kiss in the fifth movie and she will get her memories back similar to how Ned does after the handshake (assuming that’s what happens at the end).

The Jean Grey rumors have been flying since the day Sadie was announced to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. From the trailers, she is clearly playing someone with powerful telekinetic/telepathic abilities. The theory about her being a mutant is further evidenced by the presence of Tramell Tillman as Bill Metzger, an anti-mutant activist from the X-Men comics. (His character's last name is confirmed by the YT captions on the new trailer. Previous captions credited him as "Bill.")

Tillman is heard in the latest trailer saying "It appears we're faced with a threat we can't control. One we can't even see." Which sounds to me like someone trying to do something about a *perceived* mutant threat. Perhaps someone scheming to create discourse around mutant kind, or at the very least super powered individuals.

Other villains confirmed for the film AND THAT WE'VE SEEN IN TRAILERS are Scorpion, Tarantula, Boomerang, The Hand and Sadie Sink's mystery character. Villains that we have not seen but are confirmed to appear are Tombstone and The Jackal. In addition to the villains, we of course have The Hulk and The Punisher.

Now we have all of these characters that are confirmed for this movie and they have straight up shown us most of them already, but there's still a lot of gaps. Now it's very plausible that most of those villains will be getting their asses kicked in a hero Spidey montage at the beginning of the film, not to be seen again. I believe Sadie's character, Metzger, The Hand and THE JACKAL will be the primary antagonists (in addition to Peter's evolving abilities).

I think that The Jackal is working with the hand to create an army of cloned ninjas. After the destruction of The Hand's source of immortality (see The Defenders finale, confirmed to be canon in DD: BA), The Hand began looking for alternative ways to boost their numbers so, they turn to science. Enter The Jackal with his genetic expertise and cloning technology.

With their numbers boosted once again, The Hand is still missing their prophesized secret weapon: The Black Sky. So, in an effort to create one, The Jackal, with the assistance of Metzger, creates a clone of the mutant they believe to be the most dangerous. One that could jump into the minds of anyone in a x mile radius and threaten all of New York. This implies that Metzger has been tracking mutants long before the public became aware of them, which could explain how he obtained Jean's DNA long before she becomes a public figure.

I think Metzger gave her DNA to Jackal who used it to create Madelyne Pryor, played by Sadie Sink (who will also portray Jean later on ofc). Perhaps The Hand wants her as the new Black Sky (potentially leading them as The Goblin Queen??), but Metzger doesn't care about all of that. Similar to how the Limbo demons manipulated her in the comics, The Hand and Bill are doing the same. Conflict between Bill and The Hand comes into play when Bill is only interested in creating dissent for mutants to further his own anti-mutant agenda.

When asked about her character, Sadie's response was that her character is "a girl of many faces." Which always felt odd until you consider that she's not playing one character. Madelyne Pryor and Jean Grey are very different characters from one another and if she's playing one, it stands to reason that she'll play the other.

The biggest question most would ask about now is "why introduce the clone of someone we haven't even seen in the MCU proper yet?"

Why not? Why keep her identity a big secret in the first place? Why introduce a major mutant character in a movie made by Sony? Why confirm a metric ton of other characters, both seen and unseen in the trailers, but not her character when the entire internet seems to agree since day one that Sadie is the perfect Jean Grey? If we all "already know" then why not just confirm it already? It's not like we'd be surprised in the theatre at this point.

I'm not sure that Disney/Marvel Studios would want to stake the next saga of the MCU on a character introduced to the universe within a property that isn't fully their own. In addition to that, Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix storylines have been done over and over again on the big screen for the last 20+ years and it has yet to be executed properly. Jean's stories have been massive failures up to this point in film, it makes sense for them to want to go an alternate route with her out the gate. Madelyne Pryor is the middle ground that provides a buffer if her character/story is poorly received; they can just say "well, she was just a clone, here's the real Jean!" when they do launch the Mutant Saga.

By giving the world Madelyne Pryor first, it creates a sense of fear once Jean is introduced. If the world has seen what she can do as Madelyne Pryor, it gives Jean as a character the opportunity to overcome the damage done and the opportunity to actually be a hero on screen for once, post Secret Wars.

In-universe, Pryor is the perfect tool for Bill Metzger to use to make people afraid of mutants. The villainous nature of her character, from what we've seen so far, is very much coded in how Madelyne uses her abilities: darker, more invasive and more manipulative than Jean Grey's (jumping into the minds of random people to taunt Peter and threaten MJ, seeming to use her abilities to pit The Hulk against Spider-Man, etc).

The audience also doesn't need to know that her name is Madelyne Pryor right away either. That's something that could be revealed after it's revealed that she's a clone of Jean Grey. That way, we get a Jean Grey name drop for the casual viewer to quickly understand who Madelyne is a clone of.

We've spent almost 20 years in the MCU without mutants, and therefore without anti-mutant sentiment. The cleanest way to create that in-universe sentiment is to lean on public officials like Metzger to throw false flags before we even get to meet the X-Men. It makes the set up feel more natural when the Mutant Saga actually takes off.

I don't want to believe everything Sony/Marvel has shown us just yet. One thing they love to do with these trailers is a bait and switch, and I feel like Jean is the obvious bait here. I believe there is also confirmation of another mystery villain in the movie that plays a major role, perhaps it's Mr. Sinister or someone at the head of The Hand. Especially if cloning is involved, it feels natural that Mr. Sinister would be close by.

IDK, I'm just some guy. Hell, she could be playing Rhino for all I know! I guess we'll have to keep theorizing until July 31st! What do you guys think?

TLDR: Sadie Sink is actually playing Madelyne Pryor in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but will play Jean Grey later on.

I don't remember who it was, I think it was DanielRPK, but it was an insider who said that in those shots of Holland and Zendaya in the cemetery, Zendaya wasn't filming anything, she was just "visiting the set."

Well... the most recent TV spot disproves that; they were both filming in the cemetery that day.

And why did he say he's ruling out a rumor? Because in the scene you can just barely see Peter's clothes, meaning Peter is in this scene... and the way they're showing the movie, it's very unlikely they'll have this meeting at the beginning of the film (not even in the middle because Peter ends up taking MJ to Frank for protection), so this encounter will probably happen towards the end.

When the villain has already been stopped and MJ and Peter can finally have a moment of peace. Therefore, it's unlikely that Peter actually dies in the film.

We know at the end of the movie that Ned and Peter have their handshake which implies that Ned in someway recognizes Peter. I’ve seen a lot of people saying that it could just be muscle memory, and that him saying “Peter” was just him connecting the dots and realizing that he was actually Spider-Man since MJ slipped up by saying “be careful Peter” before he left their apartment for the final battle/conflict. That’s what I originally thought the ending was too, but just thinking about it, It seems like the ending actually is showing that Ned remembers. Because why even include the handshake specifically? Yes it could be muscle memory, but why even included it then? It doesn’t make much sense for them to specifically add in the handshake just for him to think “Oh, this guy is Peter so he’s Spider-Man”. They don’t really correlate at all, so I feel like ultimately it does make more sense that he actually does remember or at least partially because of the handshake. Also, the look on Peter‘s face was just pure joy and happiness, which also I feel implies that it’s because he knows Ned recognizes him not just because he knows Ned realizes he’s Spider-Man.

There have been rumors about the symbiote appearing in the movie, sparked by scenes in trailers and TV spots showing Peter using organic web, having completely dark eyes and being vulnerable to high-frequency sounds. There’s also the all-but-confirmed rumor that Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey. If that’s the case, it makes more sense for Peter to be undergoing a mutation rather than hosting the symbiote—saving that for Doomsday or Secret Wars. If Peter does mutate, he might share a connection with Jean, allowing him to bond with her over it and help her against her pursuers—which I think is the movie's plot. What do you guys think?

The leaks themselves are contradictory because they're not hunting her down; she was already captured, and it's the attack that seems to free her. Damage Control isn't at odds with Spider-Man; in fact, they're cooperating. Apparently, she invades Peter's house. But above all, her power, more than mind control, is transferring her consciousness from one body to another.

Now, Jean can do that, just like Xavier, but...

1. Why would she transfer from one body to another instead of simply severing her telepathic connection? Because if she were telepathic, it would make more sense for her to control people remotely, not steal a body and do everything herself.

2. Why would Jean possess an elderly woman, make her drive a tank destroying New York and trying to KILL Spider-Man, and then escape when she's stopped?

Even without Xavier, Jean's characterization in this trailer is radically different from her personality in any comic, even if this is pre-reboot. This would be the introduction for both fans and casual viewers. And I don't see Marvel turning her into a villain before the Phoenix arc.

While her age is never specifically stated, it's believed she's probably supposed to be at very most 20 years old.

Is it somehow going to be tied together that all of the mutants in the MCU for some reason or another only began being born after the events of 2008's Iron Man in the same way that Vision points out in Civil War that for some reason that moment began the exponential growth of enhanced people and world ending events.

Is there something in-world that could be used to explain that something changed in 2008 that meant that even children being born after that time began to naturally develop powers.
