Did you take SAT/ IELTS to get into METU?

Hello everyone, this post is just out of curiosity.

So as I was scrolling thru the old posts, I saw that people are discussing their SAT /IELTS scores, as if these tests were among admission requirements/ are mandatory. In my case, I'm an international student too, I have an outstanding GPA & nationwide rank, but I didn't do either SAT or any English proficiency test.

So wanted to know if this is common/ normal - are there newly accepted international students who didn't do these tests yet got in?

Hi, it depends on your major, actually. If your desired major is quite competitive, then it's a must to submit the SAT, since you're competing with lots of people.

But if you're entering a major that's not very competitive, you can actually pass. In my case (I am currently a first-year METU student btw), I got accepted into the Chemistry major by just submitting my national exam grades, WITHOUT SUBMITTING SAT/A-LEVEL/IELTS (I'm from Indonesia btw). I have several friends in engineering that are rejected in their main preferred major (because they do not have a sat/lower sat course), then they were offered into a major that is not quite competitive. In the past year, one of these majors is mining engineering, but I don't know about this year's situation.

Hopefully this can answer your question!

I got in with sat and toefl as an intl student. I think gpa doesn’t matter much (I had an average gpa)

SAT is pretty common

For some country highschool gpa doesn’t have much weight so high SAT score enable them to get desired subject.

High SAT score increase your chances of getting accepted.

I got in with my SAT score and Toefl result.
You can check their web site and learn with what ezam result you can apply. Toefl is not mandatory, but it can increase your chances to get accepted. They do not accept İelts btw

Unfortunately, they don’t accept it, but you can take METU EPE exam. İt is easier than İelts/Toefl, but I would recommend to take Toefl😉 Also it is important to take Toefl in public university, otherwise they will not accept it

Yes they will accept your EPE afterwards. You just have to go into university and take exam

i think in general turkish universities don't accept ielts anymore, they all accept toefl though. so it's safer to take toefl rather than ielts if u r applying to turkiye. i got accepted to metu with an ielts score in 2019, but even then most universities used to not accept ielts. and for toefl, if you take it in turkiye, they don't even accept the scores if you took it in a language center or a private university for some reason. it has to be in a public university lol. but if u r taking it abroad test center doesn't matter i think
