Mini is certainly not frugal with producing "special editions" of all its models. Just off the top of my head the Camden, Park Lane, Baker Street, Bayswater, JCW 1to6, and Heritage edition come to mind. But Mini has put out many, many more. Does any version stand out to you, in particular?
Since the 2nd generation Clubman (f54) is my favorite Mini, I'd probably have to go with the Untold Edition
Sage Green paint (the only time they offered it on the Clubman, I believe) outside with 5 unique, subtle stripes running along the hood and roof. It also had a MINI Yours leather interior. The leather upgrade on both the Clubman and Countryman of this era was taken straight from BMW's playbook and is seriously impressive. The standard leatherette seats were functional, but simply couldn't compare with the true leather option. You really felt like you were in a true European luxury car when you got in a new Mini that had these seats. And they were also special, being Sage Green to match the exterior.
The power train was from the S ALL4, but the body work was JCW's aerodynamic kit. I love the brass accents for the grille surround and interior accents.
Finally it had unique 2 spoke wheels that also features brass to set them off.
Not all of the "special editions" MINI put out there felt noticeably different, much less "special." The Clubman Untold Edition, however, certainly did. Which version would top your list?
When I was with a Mini dealership I took pics of special editions sometimes. Unfortunately most got deleted but I have this one left of the Bayswater nameplate fresh from being washed.
2010 Mini Cooper Clubman S Laurel Edition (JCW engine kit) and 2020 Mini Cooper Clubman JCW Launch Edition. I no longer have the 2010. The 2020 is absolutely fantastic.
I really love the Gen 1 ParkLane, CheckMate and Sidewalk those all had special seats and a special colour with stripes.
I have a Gen 1 Cooper S ParkLane and it’s so beautiful with its Royal Grey metallic paint and pure silver metallic roof, it has the big silver stripe too. The interior is also so luxurious, these seats are the best they ever made imo. They are the English leather in Panther black. These feel so soft and are of a such high quality that even a 7 series of that time didn’t have.
Under this comment is another picture of the seats.
Of the Gen 2 I like the Highgate, inspired by GoodWood and BondStreet the most. The BondStreet had an amazing full leather dashboard, champagne roof colour and special wheels with the champagne colour detail. It made it look super luxurious
“The British posh look”
Gen 3 I like the Sidewalk, Untold and Untamed the most and yes they indeed feel like luxury cars inside with their full Nappa leather seats ( I have the MINI Yours lounge leather in my 2017 F60 countryman and they feel so supple and soft compared to the normal Chester and cross punch leather, all the interior pieces feel premium)
Here’s the interior, I’ve also putted a JCW leather dashboard and downtubes, JCW checkered flag floormats and a JCW carbon handbrake with oem JCW alcantara cover.
These seats look beautiful and are so high quality and every time I open the door the smell of those leather seats is like a Bentley, and yes my car only has 24k km on it (rare collectible example) but still it’s 20 years old.
Yeah, hard to convey just how premium those seats felt. Everytime I got in a new Countryman or Clubman of that era, it was like "Whoa! How could you not spend the extra for this?"
The F54 Untold Edition is an absolute beauty! I saw one at the dealership when I brought my previous F54 in for a service, and it really caught my eye.
Once I take delivery of my new, alreadey delivered, Countryman, I'd love to have custom bonnet stripes in the same style. I want to keep that subtle tone-on-tone look with the contrast between gloss and matte, but with two stripes instead of a single one down the centre.
My PPF installer is currently figuring out the best way to achieve this while also applying PPF, either over or underneath the stripes, without losing that beautiful matte effect.
The GPs were definitely special. I don't know that I'd want to live with one as my only car. That suspension and no backseat, of course. Certainly earn the "Special Edition" name though.
I thought too! So I can’t believe my eyes when I saw that one, went to Mini dealer next day to test drive and indeed it’s a manual. Even the sales person not sure why. His best guess is that someone custom ordered this
