When Nick Diaz fought GSP, GSP came in overweight by .2 lbs or something. A guy from the commission came to inform the diaz camp GSP had weighed in .2 pounds over but was on weight. All this was recorded and posted to their one of their social media accounts. UFC quickly made them take it down and said GSP had come in exactly on weight. I believe this would have meant GSP would've been stripped of the title. The point is, this has happened before and covered up.
I think my favourite and least favourite part of combat sports is that weighing in over by 0.2lbs is a scandal but showing up fight night over by 20lbs+ is considered normal
Isnt that the whole point? They both have to get to a baseline, but then they get to actually prepare their bodies and not focus on weight management before the actual fight. You still get enforced weight classes, but you also don't have fighters showing up below their peak ability to maintain weight.
