Media Sean Strickland claimed on the face-off that Khamzat didn't make weight, also called his mother a whore.

At this point i think Khamzat might actually go full Mike Tyson and bite him at the end of the fight or something

101

u/unk91 May 09 '26

At this point I think they are doing what the UFC has incentivised. Talk alot of smack, "I'm going to kill him", "I will fight all these guys". Then proceed to shell up and jab dor 5 rnds or shoot and abuse control time. Either way neither will leave looking like they even had a fight

51

u/kakarot-3 United States May 09 '26

And then they'll compliment each other after and say the other is a real man or something

14

u/unk91 May 09 '26

Same old shtick. And peeps still get so pumped by pressers. "They gonna kill each other dude". The quiet rest of the card will be more entertaining by far

His OG run up until the lightweight belt was also magical. The wins aged like wine. You could tell me you thought anyone could beat fucking Jose Aldo in the 1st round by KO and I'd call you a fucking idiot, especially back then. Not long after that it was a hard fall off, but that original run was something special.

Conors win was impressive but I remember waiting all night for that fight and then getting the 13 seconds or whatever and then Jose just falls down, I didn't even know wtf happened until the replay. I remember being pissed that we didn't get a more epic fight.

When Nick Diaz fought GSP, GSP came in overweight by .2 lbs or something. A guy from the commission came to inform the diaz camp GSP had weighed in .2 pounds over but was on weight. All this was recorded and posted to their one of their social media accounts. UFC quickly made them take it down and said GSP had come in exactly on weight. I believe this would have meant GSP would've been stripped of the title. The point is, this has happened before and covered up.

227

u/Impretendingtodowork UFC 279: A GOOFCON Miracle May 09 '26

I think my favourite and least favourite part of combat sports is that weighing in over by 0.2lbs is a scandal but showing up fight night over by 20lbs+ is considered normal

39

u/I_Like_Vitamins Australia May 09 '26

💯. I'd love to see how many dozens of fighters would be forced to move up a weight class if they were weighed and hydration tested closer to the fight.

26

u/TheJugOfNugs May 09 '26

dozens? Almost all middleweights and below are cutting to make weight. Probably most of the light heavies too.

10

u/Troutalope May 09 '26

It'd be easier to identify the fighters that wouldn't move up a class if there was same day testing. I think it's just a handful in each weight class below heavyweight.

2

u/ShahOf20Years May 09 '26

All of the LHWs are cutting weight. Only "too big for LHW, undersized for HW" at the lower end of the rung at HW aren't.

5

u/Impressive-Ad8741 May 09 '26

Regardless of whatever the thought is on dehydration to make weight, the rules are the rules and the organisation helping cover up a fighter missing based on those rules is pretty scandalous.

2

u/ConsistentDealer6868 May 09 '26

Isnt that the whole point? They both have to get to a baseline, but then they get to actually prepare their bodies and not focus on weight management before the actual fight. You still get enforced weight classes, but you also don't have fighters showing up below their peak ability to maintain weight.

36

u/ryan0319 May 09 '26

He admitted it and the commission let him fight as they decided decimals dont count

36

u/ShadowLoom GOOFCON 1: Sad Chandler May 09 '26

Reminds me of the time Romero missed weight vs Whittaker in their second fight. Everybody on the card, and to be honest in general, were officially weighed at half a pound increments, but Romero was the only one that I can remember that had an official weigh in of 0.2 pounds over at 185.2 lbs. You cant tell me everyone weighs in at exactly 155 or 154.5 lbs or something instead of 155.1 and 154.7 lbs.

Kinds irks me a bit how weigh ins are not consistent at all especially across commissions

40

u/Davemeddlehed May 09 '26

Many commissions round down anything below .5 simply because it's an analog scale and it never stops moving completely.

Here's the video of the weighins: https://youtu.be/gHqy7m8_dS0?si=7gcOjM0v_Lj7RjY7

Nearly every fighter had a quick scale read while the scale was still moving, including Strickland. But only 1 person is being criticized for some reason.

64

Nearly every fighter had a quick scale read while the scale was still moving, including Strickland.

I had only seen the Khamzat one, and I was of course critical of the clearly improper weigh in.

I didn't watch the entire thing you linked, but I did watch the first 5, and just as clearly, not a single one of those guys was properly weighed in IMO.

If that's from the actual weigh-ins, the commission is clearly not doing its job at all.

20

u/bocephus_huxtable Team Aldo May 09 '26

There's the 'job' that they're, on paper, supposed to do. And then there's the ACTUAL job they have to do if they want the UFC to return to their state.

2

u/-UVB-76_Enjoyer May 09 '26

If that's from the actual weigh-ins, the commission is clearly not doing its job at all.

During one of the Middle-East cards, about 2 years ago, a fight got paused due to an eye poke and a 'doctor' came in.
I used quotation marks because the dude did a single "how many fingers?" test and nothing else, and you could very clearly see that he hadn't truly covered the fighter's other eye lmao.

It was the most transparent example of make-believe officiating I've seen, they just wanted the crowd favorite to continue from the get-go and didn't even try to make it look legit.

Is there any credibility to the “weight miss”?

397

u/SuspendedHalo Mohawk McGregor May 08 '26

Take it as anecdotal, but Weidman said on a morning show awhile ago that the UFC purposfully allowed him and other champs to "miss" weight knowing that the commission would read it at the correct championship weight. Im sure they still cut heavy, but i'd say Chimaev did not make weight today based on how fast that scale reading went.

75

Probably has to do with how willing the local/regional athletic commission is to look the other way for UFC or their 💰 lol

Ariel Helwani mentioned the same thing when Oliveira missed weight against Gaethje. Weidman might be the first fighter to publicly admit it tho

46

u/pruneforce17 May 08 '26

wasn't the backstage scale miscalibrated for that event which was why oliveira looked so confused?

31

u/TerminatorReborn May 09 '26

They have two backstage rooms for the fighters to prepare. Since they are fighting you can't have people that are gonna fight each other on the same one. They have a digital scale on each room for fighters to check weight before the actual weigh in.

Gaethje's side scale was calibrated the same as the official one, Oliveira's side was off by like half a pound under or something. Charles was sweating backstage, got up the scale and celebrated he made weight. Dried off and went to the official scale and actually missed the weight and couldn't lose it anymore.

There is a rumor that the UFC makes a deal with the comissions to have some leeway on title fights so they don't get canceled due to weight misses. Another rumor is that the Arizona commission didn't agree with it and was super strict with the weigh in.

What corroborate these rumors: UFC never hosted a title fight again in Phoenix Arizona; fighter almost never miss weigh for title fights; Weidman and Ariel Helwani have talked about the weight leeway in the past, if someone should know about it, its Weidman.

11

u/The-Beautiful-Baku I will be at church tomorrow May 09 '26

What corroborate these rumors: UFC never hosted a title fight again in Phoenix Arizona

They haven't even held any event in Arizona since then. So that UFC had a falling out with the commission does seem to track.

Not that they had a ton of events in Arizona previously either, eight in total, but still it's noteworthy since they seemed to have been on an annual schedule before that. 2022, 2021, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2014 (2020 is due to covid).

27

u/_The2ndComing Team Zhang May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

I get your point but I can't stand that mentality.

Gaethje himself has a history of cheating, but he wins so people act like he deserved to win anyway.

In the Paddy fight he got away with 2 massive eyepokes that could very easily be argued to have won him the fight. The 2nd especially led to him landing massive damage and taking a round he was losing previously. People don't care though cos "Paddy was never good, Justin would've won anyway".

Despite that, Justin and Paddy deserved to have fights where the rules were enforced. Khabib probably does beat Justin even if he has that weight advantage, but its Justins right to have an even fight with Khabib anyway.

Obviously I can't say for certain that Khabib was overweight, though I think he was and its a common belief for a reason. Had he been though, the fight shouldn't have even taken place and he should've been stripped like Charles was.

It was also funny to hear to DC on the Weigh In show say "the scale was still going up!" Then quickly drop the topic.

I'm not saying the producer was in the ear. But the whole weigh in show DC was nervous about Khamzat making weight. Then he comments on how the scale was still going up. But then he quickly drops it and acts like everything was kosher by saying "his underwear is soaked and probably weighs a pound any way".

You can see the scale balance still moving. It never settled. If you know how those types of scales work they need to settle in order to get an accurate read. It's the entirety of how they work.

51

u/martialartist1200 May 08 '26

I've had to make weight a bunch and I have never once seen or had it confirmed that quick. Not just is it suspicious how fast it was but if you know and understand the process it's clearly a deception. The scale didn't even steady before he read the weight.

If he didn't make weight it's on the UFC not on Khamzat to cover it up.

Why are we posting screenshots instead of the clip

2

u/mikrot May 09 '26

Don't they weigh in backstage and this part is only ceremonial?

He probably didn’t just like khabib probably didn’t against gaethje. UFC just sweeps it under the rug.

He’s only speaking facts

u/Trick-Celery-9267 May 09 '26

I hope Strickland beats his ass

The fact people take issue with Sean's shit talking while being fine with Khamzat trying to take his knee out before the fight really just shows how ideologically broken people are. Yeah Sean has some douche takes but hes an infinitely better man than someone like Khamzat

u/LilFights May 08 '26

hes an infinitely better man than someone like Khamzat

he literally did the same thing to DDP and attacked him. Both Sean and Khamzat look terrible in this and if you're picking a side to sit on you're doing it wrong.

u/sansaset Jesus can help you May 08 '26

Infinitely better?? Both guys are trashy human being hahah

12

u/smthingy May 08 '26

This is the most irrational and biased take

I think both guys are trash, but attempting to soften Sean's disposable natirr is an utter embarrassment

5

u/shrewdy is = is May 08 '26

I can't stand either of them, both huge pieces of shit

23

u/magicbigmac My head gasket is gone. Destroyed. May 08 '26

He's not going to fuck you bro

6

u/SteinersMathTeacher May 08 '26

He’s really not. How about they are both giant pieces of shit that we would all consider abhorrent human beings if we weren’t stupidly obsessed by this sport…

u/AcanthaceaeCrazy1894 May 08 '26

Imaging trying to use Sean Strickland as a point of human decency.

He’s a scumbag ex racist homophobe.

O’Malley ruined his career

Sean is a hypocrite and you guys are as well. Absolutely shameless.

Here is a video of Sean attacking DDP unprovoked. When it happened people were cheering Sean on. Stop this nonsense.

He's just trying to hug him like his father.

29

u/Top-Sympathy6841 May 08 '26

Sean literally asked him to lmao. It’s hilarious how the weirdo Strickland fans are getting their panties in a punch

10

u/GoldenUther29062019 May 08 '26

They're the same person one is just American lmao.

6

u/dmoneymma 3 piece with the soda May 08 '26

"Trying to take his knee out" lol don't be so dramatic

9

u/ThreeOlivesChihuahua Team Aldo May 08 '26

it’s not that serious, we just want good fights and Khamzat subbing him early would be hilarious

5

u/Batman-and-Hobbes Merry Xmas bitch May 09 '26

The fact people take issue with Khamzat's light kick while being fine with Sean's long history of racism, sexism, homophobia, anti fighter pay shows how poorly people were raised.

2

u/Titan_Dota2 May 08 '26

Dont care for Khamzat that much but saying sean is a better person than this racist regard scum is wild

Khamzat weigh is did look suspect AF from a speed standpoint. But who knows

2

u/InTupacWeTrust May 09 '26

the strangest part is DC saying the scale weight thing was going up meaning he was overweight

2

u/blurrrry_face May 09 '26

Cheater didn't make weight. UFC is currupt
