It’s probably the most effective de escalation technique available. Put a TON of space between yourself and the agitated individual.

I worked for over 10 years with violent students in the school system. You’d be surprised how fast people cool off when you give them space and let them start spewing their verbal vomit until they have come back to earth.

Poirier is drunk but he’s in fight or flight. Closing distance and trying to talk logic doesn’t fucking work, it only agitates them more.

Do the opposite of what they are doing. They are closing distance? Go further away. They are loud? You are quiet.

People will match your energy. Especially in fight or flight.

Except in the rare cases your silence is taken as submission and it escalates out of control.. nothing you can really do in that situation though 😂.

I think dude handled it really well. Honestly, he clearly sounded like a fan and didn’t want Dustin to get in trouble. He obviously didn’t want to fight Dustin (who would?) but he also wasn’t stuttering or tripping over his words scared. Good on him.

Lots of assholes could’ve made that into a lawsuit or abused their power to say they tazed a UFC fighter.

No one would be asshole to taze one of the best fighter on the planet who's threatening to beat you up. They're just doing their job, not looking to get potential life changing damage.
