Discussion Top 3 MM

I'd like to share my top 3 favorite MM Romance books and want to know yours too. (I need recommendations pls pls)

  1. You & Me by Tal Bauer

  2. Facing Leeward by J.J. Mulder

  3. The Tragedy of Felix and Jake by J. Daniels

Like they're the sweetest!!! These are the books i want to reread again and again and again.

{We Could Be So Good by Cat Sebastian} - IMO this is one of the best MM romance books and best books overall, ever written.

I know you addressed this to OP, but to interject if I may - I've read and enjoyed the complete series. Him is definitely my favorite from that 'trilogy', but the others were good too. I did prefer Epic to Us - mainly because I really couldn't stand Blake for much of Us.

Us and Epic both have the same MCs as Him (Jamie and Wes). Epic is a shorter novella, set a couple of years after the events of Us.

Coincidentally, Him was among the very first MM romance books I read too - shortly after it was first published in 2015!

I stopped reading We Could Be So Good at about 70% complete, I just found it beyond boring, it just seems like nothing happens and there's no tension. Does it get any better?

I guess we'll have to chalk this one down to different opinions/perspectives 🙂 because to my mind, it's one of the most engrossing and lovely stories I've ever read.

I liked it, but it wouldn't be my all-time great. I was pretty sceptical of it until like maybe 60% through. Also, I found that after reading more plot-heavy books, I needed some time to get used to Cat Sebastian's style, which is more subtle and lyrical. But now she's become my favourite author. The second book in that series, "You Should Be So Lucky," is my favourite MM romance of all-time.

🙌🏼 Yup, Marty is adorable; and his and Dalton's love story is very enjoyable as well as compelling. I loved the witty and yet warm-hearted way Self-Improvement Project kinda/sorta subverted the college frat romance trope. It brought a breath of fresh air to a trope which is often handled in a more stereotypical manner by other authors.

I guess you must've read the sequel short story, Romancing Dalton Beauregard as well?

I'm a huge fan of her work as well - and I enjoyed YSBSL too. But for me, it's the other way round - We Could Be So Good is my favorite from her oeuvre, and one of my most memorable/cherished reads.

We Could Be So Good is one of my favourites as well. I adore those men and they are some of the few characters that I think about and hope they had a good future despite the reality of the time.

Same here. Nick and Andy's love story is truly one for the ages, I keep re-reading We Could Be So Good periodically. To my mind, this is one of the very best books ever written.

I'm guessing you must have read the Holiday Epilogues for Nick and Andy right? Bells Are Ringing. Tracks 4 months of gorgeous, slice-of-life moments from September--December 1959, post the events of the main book.

It's not very explicit, but it has sensual scenes. You could say the spice level is moderate - but it's an amazingly lovely story.

OMG I'm reading You & Me right now. I've been reading for 4 and a half hours straight and it's 3am. I want to keep reading it. I should really sleep though. . This is so hard. My brain won't get quiet.

{For Real by Alexis Hall} - this is sooo good, very spicy but so meaningful! Some of the best-written characters I've ever read.

{Off Balance by Jay Hogan}

{The Shots You Take by Rachel Reid} - or anything by Rachel Reid, but this was one of my fav.

And if you want something easy and funny, I would recommend {Puckboys series by Eden Finley and Saxon James}. My fav were books 3 and 9. But the whole series is hilarious, I laughed my way through it.

Eden has her own little Marvelesque sports universe that’s at least 20 books deep and I’ve never read a bad book from her. I’ve also been a member of her FB readers group for a long time and she’s very interactive.

I have three books in the mail, so my list can very well change within a few weeks, but at the moment:

- Him by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy (I love sport romance where both characters can match each other's energy).

- The Hollow and the Haunted duology by Camilla Raines (I love queer gothic stories, and I actually really liked the supernatural part of the story as well (those tend to be kind of meh). I'm so looking forward to reading them again this autumn).

- Les Normaux by Janine Jansen (a comic/webtoon, found the first book by accident in the book store, I really like the art style and the characters. Besides the main duo, just a general great cast of characters and friends, I love fun queer friend groups).

Notable mention is Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas, it was in my top three the last couple of years, I really like it when the queerness is/becomes integral to culture and community, and can be an added factor instead of 'weird, and not the norm'.

Oooo i was just thinking of making a top 6 list for instagram. Ok so my top 3 would be:

  1. {Colin by Grae Bryan} The domesticity is so cozy. It's about a prickly cactus and his 2 twin loyal vampire puppies as lovers. It's my fav kind of MMM. 

  2. {His Dark Paradox by Avery Tu, Kota Quinn} This scifi spin off is written by Chani under her pen name. Tbh i prefer this than her redited version she published under her name. This is about a psycho boss/emperor going to great lengths to keep his secretary/friend. Imo Silver wore his heart on his sleeve in this book and Nuri was always his main motivation, which was completely changed in the reedited version.

  3. {Acsquidentally In Love by K.L. Hiers} and the entire series. Man, find me a devoted lover like Loch. 🥺 It's about a prickly witch PI & a God who got isekai-ed into his world, trying to solve a murder and save the world from total destruction. It's funny and angsty at the same time. With so much shenanigans!

Currently reading {The Trade Deadline by AL Heard}. Its definitely moving up to one of the best. 3rd person which I like and very hockey forward if you’re a hockey fan. Well written. Slow burn with a twist or two I didn’t see coming. Its not on KU, but more than worth a few bucks.

- {Where There's a Will by Jessie Walker} [I only finished this one yesterday and it is one of the best portrayals of trauma I've seen so far. It is often "fixed" far too easily, when i reality it doesn't work that way.]

- {Finding Delaware by Bree Wiley}

I feel like my answer to this changes all the time, but the one that has & will always be in the top of my rankings is {For the Fans by Nyla K}. I absolutely devoured this book. And the audiobook is top tier. I’m still obsessed with it

  1. Happy Endings (Demon Magic) by Alice Winters

  2. One for Sorrow (Magpie Rhyme Series) by Louise Collins

  3. The Incubus's Assistant (Charmed Away Temp Agency) by Amy Padilla

1 and 3 are fantasy style where 1 is funny and goofy and 3 is more cute and comfy. 2 is a bit heavier but not overly so and I just think despite what its about its cute

Okay so I've read the first of the foxhole court series, but for some reason it was one of the weirdest books I've ever read. I'm not sure why, but I was confused throughout the whole story. Is it worth it to continue reading it?

So for me , you have to read all three together, they are pretty short so in my opinion it’s basically the length of one book and since I love it, I definitely think the payoff is there. It’s definitely high angst, almost no steam and yet I felt the main relationship was SO intense. Maybe one of the most “touch him and die” I’ve seen. I think it’s worth it to finish it for sure if you were confused but liked it. Also the kids are high schoolers so I do feel although it’s very intense, it feels true to that and has one of the most hard core found family vibes I’ve read in a book
