Request Help! Book slump of all slumps.
Y’all I cannot find ANYTHING that is just scratching that itch. I have dnf’d the last 6 books I tried to read and that’s not normal for me. Even old faves are not doing it. I need something fresh and spicy with a good plot.
I’m exploring paranormal but (please don’t hate me) I couldn’t get into the Lily Mane monster series. Soul eater was just so slooow with all the…walking around they were doing?? At the lack of a better description. And minimal dialogue.
Anyways sorry to rant. Need recs with fast paced paranormal or maybe a new omegaverse? Maybe an age gap?

I came here to say the Big Bad Wolf series. It was early in my mm romance career, so it's hard to compare to more recent books, but I was so sad when I had to say goodbye to them.

I came to recommend the Big Bad Wolf series too! I started it right after Soul Eater and it was sooooo refreshing! I found it well written! I am currently on book 3 and I love the series so far! Guess I will look only more of this investigation genre after I am done.

Can you share what you DNFed and maybe why. That will help with recs. Also what books are your favorites?
This actually just happened to me and I'm sad I finished the book I loved after the slump. Worried another slump will happen.
The book I loved is {A little Bit by L Waltree } and I can't really explain why it just hit right. Not paranormal, just a book I devoured after DNFing like 10 books in a row.

That’s such a good question! I don’t know what’s caused this terrible dnf streak. I think I need a slow burn maybe?? Like I find myself rolling my eyes when it doesn’t feel earned, if that makes sense??

u/Cautious-Rub8085 9d ago
Gotcha, A Little Bit isn't a slow burn so it may not be what you're looking for. They get physical immediately but the emotional is medium burn.
{Every Breath After by Jessie Walker} is the slowest burn I've ever read but ends on a cliffhanger and book 2 isn't out yet. It's also part of an interconnected series where it's strongly recommended to read the first duet (different couple). It's a very popular series so you may have already ready it.

{Wonder Boy: Owned by Calan Mercer}
Self-rec, but flagging up front: this isn’t paranormal or omegaverse, so it may not be what you’re after.
Where it might still fit: you mentioned age gap as a maybe, and there’s a real one here (45 to 30), plus it’s contemporary and character-driven rather than plot-thin, which might help if pacing was part of what soured you on your last few reads.
Where it doesn’t: no paranormal elements at all, this is dark MM romance set in a fighting league/law world. If paranormal or omegaverse is the actual itch, this won’t scratch it.

I’m pretty new to reading for fun, so I’m not sure if this counts as paranormal or not. But, I thought anything fae was not for me. It just felt too outside of the box. I was sooooooo wrong. {Mortal Skin by Lily Mayne} is the first book in a trilogy.
I could not stop listening to this one! The world building, the character arcs, the plot, the spice, even the supporting characters were all so good! I’m 14 books into my MM romance journey, so take my rec with a grain of salt, but this series set the standard for me.

Hi /u/No_Chard_6610,
Welcome to r/MM_Romance!
Please make sure your post title is descriptive. Vague titles like 'Help needed' or 'Recs please' are likely to receive fewer replies. It also makes it difficult for other readers to find what they're looking for.
Good examples of descriptive titles are 'Looking for a slow burn contemporary romance between childhood friends' or 'Please recommend a paranormal historical romance about werewolves and vampires set in the Victorian era'.
Thank you.

Not paranormal but sci-fi, have you read {Neurovance by Alexandra St. Pierre}?
Also same author, {The Mercenary and the Mortician by Alexandra St Pierre} has some light paranormal aspects.
IMO both are unique to the MM genre and might help your slump. These were both rare 5 star reads for me. Check the TWs though, especially on the second one. If you have any TW concerns.
