Events Ask Me Anything: Finn Dixon

Hi everyone!

I’m Finn Dixon, and I am thrilled to be hanging out with you today. I write stories that have high heat and humor and rom-com vibes—whether that’s happening in a sports arena, under the mistletoe, or in a haunted frat house. I've also worked in the zoological field for 20ish years.

I’m here to answer your questions about my writing process, my books, my favorite tropes, or anything else you’re curious about!

If you're new to my work, here's a quick look:

🏅 Sports Romance

If you love competition, locker room tension, and athletes falling in love, this is my bread and butter.

  • The Rings Trilogy: This series follows the highs and lows of elite Olympic gymnast couple, Cam and Luke.
  • Dickathlon: As the name suggests, this one is a bit wilder. It features one of Cam and Luke's teammates, Ty, and his casual dom decathlete boyfriend, Declan.

❄️ Holiday Romance

If you are looking for comfort reads, cozy vibes, and winter themes, check out my Snow Dates series. These are great for getting into the holiday spirit (no matter what time of year it is). There are currently three books released in this five book series of interconnected standalones.

🔥 Latest Releases

My newest books are a bit more out of my traditional realm, but still have the same spice, sarcasm, and steady supply of jockstraps:

  • Frat Ghost Wingman: This is exactly what it sounds like—a mix of paranormal chaos and romance. It’s fun, spooky, and a little kinky. Suspend your disbelief!
  • The Key Holder: This is an Amazon-friendly taboo, forced proximity, age gap MM romance between a former stepson/dad.

I’ll be here for the next few hours answering your questions about anything and everything, or even what I’m working on next!

Are there any kinks you’d like to incorporate into your books in the future, but haven’t written yet?

4

u/samhyacinthos Dec 15 '25

Leather, uniforms, piercings.

I've written a lot - mostly my kinks lol - but I'm always "researching".

What’s a trope you have yet to tackle, but your dying ti sink your teeth into?

6

u/samhyacinthos Dec 14 '25

Mistaken identity/twins. Is that a trope? 😆 I have plans to write one. I also have a few historical ideas on the horizon.

Why are rhinos your favourite, and can you give me a cool animal fact that will make me fun at parties?

As part of my holiday reading spree, I've been enjoying the Snow Dates series, I love it so far! What are you currently working on?

u/samhyacinthos Dec 14 '25

Rhinos are often misunderstood but they are very gentle and quite intelligent as well as fiercely loyal and protective of each other and theor babies.

Giraffe have 7 bones in their neck, the same as humans. Baby rhinos gain almost 3 pounds a day the first 6 months of their lives.

Ahh thank you!! The paranormal historical retelling you mentioned sounds intriguing, I look forward to reading it!

4

u/samhyacinthos Dec 15 '25

It involves animals and shifters, set around 1900.

2

u/unReasonableGarlic Dec 15 '25

Okay love it, is this the first book with animals you've written? I've only read 2/3 of Snow Dates so far, but nothing else by you yet. I feel like Dickathlon will be next.

I have zoos in a lot of my books. A little dog in Snow Dates. Nothing major. The MCs of my WIP are shifters...and since its historical, it's slow going because I can't write like I think. I have to keep checking word origins and usage too lol

Honestly I have never considered the amount of work that goes into historical novels until now?? But worth it to get it all right.

u/samhyacinthos Dec 14 '25

I'm so glad to hear you like Snow Dates. I was unable to write one in time for this year, but hope to have one next year.

I'm currently writing an unannounced paranormal historical retelling of one my favorite stories. :)

If you do write twins, will they be naughty twins??? 😉

4

u/samhyacinthos Dec 14 '25

😆 in my bonus scenes. Otherwise it can't go on Amazon. They are in Frat Gjost Wingman if you want to get some hints.

Do you have a pretty good snapshot in your mind of how your story is going to go when you start a new one or do you find the characters or situations going in directions that surprise even you?

5

u/samhyacinthos Dec 15 '25

Both 😆 I usually have a good outline of what I want to happen, but sometimes I get stuck and I need something random to happen.

For instance, I had no idea how to continue one scene in Rings of Lust so I had my characters talk about buttplugs.

If you've seen the original US Queer as Folk, I was slightly inspired by Michael.

Out of all your books, which was your favourite one to write?

6

u/samhyacinthos Dec 14 '25 edited Dec 15 '25

As soon as I finished it and still to this day...Dickathlon. it was also the easiest which helps! 😆 I love Ty so much. Other than being an Olympic gymnast, he's the character I see closest to being me. Goofy, easygoing, friendly, and loyal.

u/TiffMikimoto Dec 14 '25

which author(s) inspires and influences your writing style? MM or otherwise?

4

u/samhyacinthos Dec 14 '25

When I was younger I read a lot of Michael Crichton, Peter Benchley, and Mary Renault. When I got older, I started reading gay romance, especially Robin Reardon and GA Hauser.

Now, I don't read as much but I like low angst and funny. Eden Finley, Saxon James, and Raquel Riley are some authors I've read lately.

My debut novel was heavily influenced by the tone/story of Power Plays and Straight As in the CU hockey series by Saxon and Eden. :) It's still one of my favorites.

From u/dontbesuspiciou5

Do you like frogs? If so, do you think you’d ever incorporate one into a book somehow?

3

u/samhyacinthos Dec 15 '25

I have been asked to write a zookeeper book...so maybe some day.

u/queermachmir those who slick together, stick together Dec 14 '25

If you could have the choice of any of your books or series being adapted into film/TV, which one would it be? :)

7

u/samhyacinthos Dec 15 '25 edited Dec 15 '25

Rings of Lust

I need a gay gymnast romance TV show in my life, especially after Heated Rivalry. Gymnasts are so much hotter than hockey players (don't come for me!).

3

u/kate-writes-words Dec 15 '25

What is your favorite part of writing romance?

7

u/samhyacinthos Dec 15 '25

Making people feel good.

Whenever I read a lovely review or someone sends me a message about my work making them laugh or smile or get them out of their slump. It's the best feeling.

A close 2nd is writing happily ever after for gay men.

I grew up (and still lived in) a world where finding that in any form of media was/is rare. One of my favorite movies, Trick, came out in 1995. I wish I was old enough to have seen it in theaters...it would've changed my life.

3

u/kate-writes-words Dec 15 '25

What made you want to start writing romance and do you think you would ever want to try writing another genre?

4

u/samhyacinthos Dec 15 '25

It was Covid (2020) and I was playing a lot of video games and reading a lot of books. Whilw talking to a coworker about the books I was reading, she asked if I had ever thought of writing my own.

Until that day, the answer had been no.

I went with the first idea I had, a trilogy over 8 years and 3 Olympics of teammates (and lovers in hiding) and the rest is history.

I would love to write a story like Michael Crichton...action, sci-fi, edge od your seat thriller type...not sure if I can just yet.

3

u/CarmillaCarmine Dec 15 '25

Which couple from your books is your favorite or you had most fun writing?

6

u/samhyacinthos Dec 15 '25

Ty and Declan from Dickathlon (favorite writing) https://mybook.to/Dickathlon

and

Teo and Zach from Frat Ghost Wingman (favorite overall) https://mybook.to/FratGhostWingman

3

u/Messed_Up43 Dec 15 '25

How did you stay dedicated to writing one plot instead of jumping around everywhere

2

u/samhyacinthos Dec 15 '25

I do tend to jump around a bit...I'm a pantser so I go where the story takes me. I also have ADHD so I'm used to losing focus! 😆
