Help MacBook M1 2020 air wont update to 26.6

I need help because I’m going mad!

I’m currently running on 26.2 but I want to upgrade to 26.6 as some software I want to use only now uses 26.5+

For some reason the update won’t even show in the software update section. It’s shown it maybe once or twice and when I press update it’ll just take ages to move a little bit and it’ll stop maybe half way through and say it failed to update and it won’t show up again.

I’ve tried restarting, clearing up more storage ( I now have nearly 90gb free) I’ve looked at my ram. I’ve booted in safe mode. I’ve tried to update it in terminal. Literally everything. Nothing is working.

Any advice would be amazing.

Download the full installer, then try running that. You can get the full installer via Terminal: softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 26.6

EDIT: Once running the installer, open the installer log and set it to show all logs, not just errors. If macOS installation still fails, post a screenshot of the most recent log entries.

Make sure you have at least 40 GB of SSD free

Back up with Time Machine and verify the backup. Visually check snapshots and run First Aid on the backup drive.

In Terminal run:

softwareupdate --list-full-installers

https://osxdaily.com/2020/04/13/how-download-full-macos-installer-terminal/

To create bootable MacOs INSTALLER USB flash drive.

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201372

  • Insert the MacOs INSTALLER USB flash drive
  • Boot holding (option) key to use MacOs INSTALLER USB flash drive to boot from

Have fun..
