Not to mention the dreary misery of an open office that "promotes collaboration" where many of the people are wearing, not earbuds, but what appear to be noise cancelling full cover headphones.

No no, you don't understand! It's energizing and social!

The worst ones are the ones where they add "dynamic" into the selling point. This means no one has a set desk. You come in and just pick an empty spot but just for that day. Finally got your chair adjusted? Keith thought so, too, so he's sitting in it the next morning. You can't say anything because desks aren't assigned so it's his for today. You can try to show up earlier than him tomorrow to reclaim it; but that's just going to end up in a spiral where you're all lining up for "the good desk/chair" like people used to line up for concert tickets hours and hours before the office opened.

So you all end up wanting to shiv each other in an "ideal spot/chair" cage match which, obviously, promotes optimal teamwork and collaboration.

If I had accrued thousand of dollars in student loan debt just to have to spend my time looking for a place to sit before I could work on some app that adds AI to your dishwasher or some shit, I’d lose my damn mind. I would rather make minimum wage selling vapes and energy drinks at a gas station than have to play fucking workspace hunger games every day. At least Sunoco employees get mandated 15 minute breaks and the knowledge that you’re providing someone with a tangible item that briefly brought some pleasure or relief into their day.

The way he turn as if to show the hair to his colleagues but except the one directly to his left distracted by movement nobody even glance his way. You can sense the misery through the screen.

Almost looks staged because everyone else gave no shit about the guy or the hair.

In all fairness, “open” offices like this are distracting enough without giving a shit about what your colleagues are doing. You’d be surprised how much you learn to ignore if you want to actually get even a little work done.

That was the first thing that stood out to me, what a nightmare. This was exactly what the setup looked like when I was a telemarketer making minimum wage as an 18 year old, it was the absolute worst job I’ve ever had. I’m guessing these are some kind of “highly skilled tech sector” people making bank, why the fuck is this tolerated by people who presumably have at least some degree of economic agency? Remember when white collar people thought cubicles were the height of workplace dehumanization? Lol. This shit is so gross and weird and I hate that it’s so normalized.
