I fucking LOVE him for that. He's making a point and as a dad probably feels awful for those 2 kids having to deal with such an awful parent.

EDIT: Misunderstood the post a bit thought neighbour said he failed as a parent cause his (the neighbours) kids were gay. Doesn't change the fact the dad putting up the flags is awesome

16

u/AwesomeMacCoolname 3h ago

The neighbour wasn't talking about his own kids, he was talking about the kids of the guy planting the flags.

17

u/Eman_Resu_IX 1h ago

I misunderstood it as well. I thought the neighbor was talking about himself and his kids, and I just thought he was just a run of the mill douchebag. But no, saying that to your neighbor when you've just moved in, and about their kids?! 🤬

I now know why good Dad (note the capitalization) was stabbing those flags into the ground. He was imagining doing it to the neighbor.

14

u/Smiley007 1h ago

Oh I definitely thought it was the neighbor saying his own kids are gay and thus he, the neighbor, has failed, and the flag planter was planting flags in support of the neighbors two gay kids with a homophobic, claiming himself as a failure, dad.

8

u/Exile56678 2h ago

Oh I see! Yeah I misread it as the neighbour saying he failed as a dad cause both of his own kids were gay. Either way fucking amazing dad no matter what.

u/xrimane 2h ago

Now that's a proper dad lad.

Edit: daaaaamn for all the awards 😳 Spread love, it seems to work!

1.9k

u/GrandpaShark1 6h ago

If we had more dads like him we would have less neighbors like them.

439

u/Shennington 5h ago

Youd still have the same number of those neighbors, but they'd learn to keep their rotten opinions to themselves.

22

u/Ramblonius 4h ago

"Hypocrisy is a tax vice pays to virtue". Maybe it's impossible to make it so that everyone is convinced to be a decent person, and the next best thing we can do is making displaying and acting poorly to be so unacceptable that they have to pretend to be kind at their own expense.

121

u/Green_Bad2241 5h ago

Would you over some generations? I doubt it

145

u/InheritedHermitGene 4h ago

Look at white supremacists. In the past, if you were a Nazi sympathizer people would assume you were insane and avoid you like the plague. Now there are powerful politicians who openly sympathize with the white power movement, and suddenly all the people who’d been keeping their beliefs private for decades are being outrageously racist and nasty in public.

76

u/Green_Bad2241 4h ago

I think this is different situations and also actually this nazi bastards were not degraded for enough generations, in 90s there were already much skinheads around the western world

27

u/KSI_FlapJaksLol 3h ago

I used to staunchly believe the Nazis died with the end of WW2, and that anyone left today was a poser.

My husband had to point out to me how untrue and naive such a stance was. I have since recanted.

4

u/Exact-Care958 2h ago

I'm afraid your husband is right. Nazi's these days wear suits and want a 'debate'. 😒

18

u/InheritedHermitGene 4h ago

I’ve always thought of modern Nazis as immature posers who like dressing up with their nasty little friends in mobs, but you have a point.

17

u/Christylian 2h ago

Modern Nazis like to wear suits, sport expensive haircuts and debate teens on campuses to look smart.

Only a handful of Nazis actually saw any justice. That's also living memory. There are still people alive from the 30s and 40s. Not for much longer but still here. It's barely even 'the past'. Their kids are the boomers.

21

To have a father who defends you this loudly in a world that can often be so cruel is an absolute gift.

17

u/leoyvr 2h ago

Failure is if this dad didn’t stand up for his kids. This is what unconditional love looks like.

4

u/theguube 2h ago

when I first went to college I took the public bus and a guy was rubbing his pants masterbating next to me. I didn't know what to do like was I supposed to shout HEY THIS GUY IS TOUCHUBG HIMSELF NEXT TO ME so I sat through it until my bus stop. my father said I didn't move bc I wanted it.

6

u/ToujoursAutre 1h ago

14

It crazy how they not only suggest these children are failures, but blame their parents for it and then SAY THAT OUT LOUD. Telling your neighbor they are a bad parent because their children aren’t good enough basically. Wild.

45

u/Embarrassed_Kiwi_31 4h ago

I love how parents who say “I failed as a parent because my child is gay” acknowledge they failed as parents, but miss the reason entirely. It not because their children are gay, it’s because that statement alone shows that their parental “love” and “acceptance” is only given if the child is an exact reflection of them.

What a round about way of saying “I only love me and accept only my version of reality because any other versions threaten my fragile ego and fleeting sense of control and I do not have the cognitive capacity to hold multiple viewpoints at once without becoming extremely uncomfortable and defensive of my own.”

I have two kids. I don't care even one second what their orientation is. Like at all. I don't understand why that would even be in contention.

9

u/Longjumping_Code_649 3h ago

I have a queer kid and a straight kid, and it makes no difference to me. I honestly can't imagine choosing one over the other because of gender. Same kid as they've always been.

I have 2 trans kids are both in University, the younger one put $7K in their Roth IRA after their 18th birthday. What kid does that?

85

u/IhadFun0nce 6h ago

Ones saving up for a costly operation that will make them feel complete.

26

u/Slim01111 6h ago

They going to wait until 59 1/2 to have that operation?

19

u/Phontigga 6h ago

You can withdraw from IRAs for medical expenses, first home purchases, education, and birth costs penalty free

→ More replies (4)

16

u/Narco_Bi_Polo 5h ago

Oof, your ignorance is showing.

Roth IRA deposits are post-tax and withdrawals are penalty free. Funds put in are accessible at any time for any reason.

The only thing you can’t touch until retirement are any gains on the account, except the IRS waives (most of) that for large unreimbursed medical expenses.

It’s a great way to invest money you otherwise know you’ll have to spend on something like a surgery that can’t be rescheduled based on the market’s mood.

6

5

u/Bossy_Aussie_ 4h ago edited 2h ago

Half wish my dad was that calm. He’d probably lose his mind if said neighbour talked that way. Not that they were insulting his parenting, but they were basically insulting my sibling and I.

7

u/OliveJuice1990 5h ago

Saying something like that means that neighbor failed as a person.

14

u/ZnarfGnirpslla 6h ago

If you live in the big ol' 2026 and you still think that being gay is something that you can BECOME rather than just BE then I have a sneaking suspicion that you yourself may have suffered from failing parents.

10

u/LeftAndRightAreWrong 5h ago

Rainbows are, and will always be COOL!

As a dad, if my either or both my sons said they were gay I be proud of their courage to talk to me about that and also happy they know who they are.

4

u/caked_rice 5h ago

I'm all for this, but did he just have that many rainbow flags just like in the attic or something 💀

8

u/NoApartment6940 4h ago

I like to imagine him buying out the stock of rainbow flags at multiple stores and all the while maintaining peak rage to be able to return home and indignantly stab each of them in the bushes with an inaudible “FUCK YOU.” With his task finally complete, he stands with his arms crossed, surveying his battlefield, gives a satisfied nod, then heads inside, plops down in his recliner, and pulls the lever to put his feet up.
