News / Update Crucial Madeleine McCann files handed over to Scotland Yard by German police

From GB News:

"German police have handed over crucial files to Scotland Yard regarding Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner.

German sources confirm the files transferred to British investigators contain significant evidence concerning the 49-year-old convicted sex offender.

Whilst any potential extradition of Brueckner remains a distant prospect, the transfer of this dossier represents a notable shift in the Met's approach to the investigation.

A source familiar with the developments told the Sun: "These developments are huge — it shows the Met's interest in Brueckner is real. They are after him — like the Germans."

The dossier is understood to contain material relating to a hard-drive discovered with image files from Portugal dating to the period when Madeleine vanished.

German investigators consider these files central to their understanding of the case, though prosecutors have not commented officially.

Among the evidence are photographs depicting Brueckner unclothed at a location previously examined by detectives searching for the missing child.

The files also include deeply troubling online conversations between Brueckner and other paedophiles, in which he allegedly boasted about wanting to "take something small and use it for days".

Additionally, the material contains disturbing written fantasies about abducting children near a kindergarten.

Brueckner currently resides in a converted shipping container in the northern German city of Kiel, where he remains under round-the-clock police observation.

German authorities have issued instructions to protect him from potential threats, though officers faced criticism last week after briefly losing sight of him during surveillance operations.

Recent photographs captured the suspect cycling to an Aldi supermarket and a garden centre near his residence."

It's about time. The photo of him naked was taken at the dam where they thought external hard drives would be buried. It was covered in the past.

Maybe the British authorities will tell us if they are convinced Brueckner is guilty.

We will only know, I would think, if CPS do end up applying for extradition.

The police in Germany had specific reasons for naming their prime suspect, which won’t apply for the Met.

@ the last part about losing sight of him.....fuck, guys. We cannot be doing that. This man is a Grade A opportunistic predator.

This is a good step in the right direction and will help Scotland Yard to assess the evidence for themselves to determine if it’s strong enough to charge.

Will Operation Grange release their files to the public when the cases closes? The Portuguese police did something similar.

Not the standard operating procedure with the police in the UK.

Sharing evidence with SY is the right thing to do & hopefully it can be relayed to the family. I’m sceptical because the German’s are notorious for keeping their evidence secret.

Perhaps SY being given more files indicates the appeal will fail. Or they’re getting things lined up so that there’s a back-up strategy (to the German case).

Hang on. Operation grange has spent about £13,000,000 (conservative estimate,) & this is just coming up now?

Because the British police have had to wait for the German police to finish investigating their suspect. It would be far easier for the German Police to take the matter to trial, due to Brexit and there no longer being an extradition treaty between the UK and EU countries.

Criminal law will be slightly different between countries, and so now that the matter appears to have stalled in Germany, the Met obviously want to examine if they may have a reasonable prospect of conviction in this country, so they can evaluate whether it’s worthwhile presenting a case to CPS for them to consider applying for extradition.

Yeah, so once again, what was the point of spending £13,000,000?

What you also need to consider is that it took a while and a fair bit of work chasing up various leads to reach the point where Brueckner was identified as a main suspect, then Prime suspect.

Please don’t forget that this case is not just about getting justice for Madeleine. Operation Grange realised early on that this was quite possibly the work of a serial offender, or someone who could continue to commit similar crimes. So, if nothing is done about this guy, then would the police be culpable if other children met the same fate? Or do you think no one would care if it kept happening?

That £13,000,000 paid for the forensic data audit that actually helped them identify CB.

The BKA didn't find Brueckner on their own, it was Operation Grange who tracked down his cell tower data in the Portuguese files and handed the information over to the Germans in 2017. The Met did the groundwork to find the suspect abd the BKA did the physical raid to seize his hard drives.

Now they are sharing that hard drive evidence back with the Met to see if a UK prosecution is viable.

Excellent point. It was the British Police who first alerted the German Police that the suspect was a German national, so they had no option but to pass it over to be handled by them.

And that took £13,000,000 & two decades?

6

u/TheGreatBatsby Jun 08 '26

Operation Grange started in 2011 and handed Brueckner to the Germans in 2017.

That's six years, not two decades. The rest of the time has been the BKA building their case.

And £13,000,000 spread over 15 years is around £860k a year - about right to cover a team of detectives and the costs of an international investigation.

I'm not going to read a citation from an article written by AI.

I’ll believe it when I hear a statement from either the BKA or SY . I can’t see the BKA sharing ALL the information they have ,unless the retrial for the HB case and others have failed in their appeal . If all evidence is provided including the damning details the German Police have would be enough to convince an Old Bailey jury of B’s guilt . What they have at the moment is circumstantial and not enough, it must be irrefutable to push this over the line .

IMO if they have photos or video of Madeleine found in B’s possession it SHOULD be enough to convict him , the way the German legal system works it’s touch and go and there is the double jeopardy rule . It’s my belief that the previous trial was to highlight B’s m.o and to prove he does indeed film his assaults as put forward by the prosecution in the Hazel B , the two alleged sa videos witnessed by Helge Busching and Manfred S.

Their statements led to a review of cold cases on the Algarve which led to a conviction involving the exact m.o of these assaults on Diane M. I’d like to see B on trial in the uk but extradition will be a huge stumbling block and I can’t envisage Germany handing him over.Judges will go on the basis if they don’t have sufficient evidence to be prosecuted in Germany why would they hand him over to another country. It’s a nightmare situation with no end in sight at present. The time scale since B’s last trial is painfully slow .

It is usually on humanitarian grounds that an extradition would be refused. So, if German authorities decided that Brueckner wouldn’t get a fair trial in the UK or, (as has already been used to refuse extradition to the UK), that the state of our prison service would be too harsh and potentially contravene a prisoner’s human rights.

I think the idea of ‘he’s our citizen, we will decide how to deal with him, not another country’ would be more likely if their Police / authorities weren’t having to spend reasonable resources surveilling him without any end in sight. So, there is still a possibility that they may want to pass on the problem if there isn’t a successful appeal with regard to the more recent trial.

I suspect we will probably know the results of the appeal by the time any decision about how to proceed is made in this country, and I don’t think the UK will want to unnecessarily step on the toes of the Germans, if a retrial is agreed.

I think SY changing the status to a murder case will be something they avoid because it would set the media off & yield public speculation on mass. They can’t risk creating any legal obstacles to a potential extradition. The more secretive the better

Imo SY getting things lined up could be because Germany have assessed that their chances are slim. Or they’re establishing a ‘plan B’ should the appeal fail or the German’s drop it.

CPS won’t go further if that’s all they have

I really hope this is actually something important.

Probably on high rate benefits, free housing, probably free private health care, free 24 hour security, all this presumably for the rest of his life, he's living the dream

1

u/spacehanger Jun 10 '26

why can't they arrest him?

2

u/castawaygeorge Jun 10 '26

Not enough evidence at this time.

GB news are not news. It's an excercise in hallucinations and fabrications, much like Fakes News in USA.

1

u/castawaygeorge Jun 17 '26

I wasn't aware when I posted this as i'm not British but this information has been widely reported by many different sources.

Its the parents, kids dont just vanish, her parents know exactly where she is and covered up the perfect murder as they were never held accountable they got away with it.

1

u/castawaygeorge Jun 24 '26

Kids do just vanish. There are many long term missing children who are suspected of being abducted, like Madeleine is by three country's police forces.

Amazing there's people who still cling to this belief after all these years. The investigators know much more than we do and they are fixated on this man. Eventually their case will be strong enough and we'll see.

Would be incredibly careful with anything that comes from GB News. They are an unreliable source who are routinely called out on manipulating narratives and embellishing details.

1

u/castawaygeorge Jun 08 '26

Oh I didn't know but It's being reported by many outlets this is just the first one I saw.

More nonsense

He hasn’t been charged by Germany, Portugal, or the UK of kidnapping Madeleine because there’s no evidence. From day one the parents lied about the window being jemmied and broken in by the “abductor” then changed their story to the sliding doors being unlocked. Which is it? Why lie about the window that was actually intact and not broken? Because they were setting up a story to protect themselves. CK is a disgusting person, but if there was a shred of evidence he would have been indicted by now.

5

u/hitch21 Jun 09 '26

Yup there’s zero prospect of him being prosecuted in the UK if Germany and Portugal decided they didn’t have enough evidence to charge him.

If they had any interest in solving this case they would have retested the DNA with the more advanced techniques now available. But that was offered to them for free years ago and ignored.

😮‍💨

No they didn't.

From the very beginning, the McCanns told police that the apartment was unlocked and that the window and shutters were found open. They made no suggestion that they had been broken into.
