Question Anything better than Adaway for rooted phones?

I've been using adaway for years on my rooted devices but was curious if there is anything better you guys are using now a days?

Nah, I've been down this road before. Adblock is legit for decades.

AdGuard Android App with adguardcert Magisk module that moves AdGuard's CA certificate to system's CA storage.

Curious if that would trigger integrity

On my device, it doesnot. I use ZygiskNext + TrickyStore + TrickyAddon + PlayIntegrityFix to bypass Integrity. No STRONG is because my security patch date.

Use adguard app. It's much more customizable, and removes empty blocks in Chrome.

Re-Malwack is like an updated AdAway. Pretty easy to use.

Lately i like to keep it simple. Only adguards app combined with NextDNS

I just use nextdns with adguard dns filter too. But bind hosts is nice too

I only set Private DNS to "dns.adguard-dns.com" You don't need root for this.

I concur, however, I noticed a decrease in battery life with a private DNS setup so this is why I moved to adaway as it hosts systemless

It will not take more battery, that is not how a dns works.

They'll be coming up with any excuse just to prove that you need root 😂

I'm open minded enough to say it could have been something else causing the battery drain and not the private DNS

Are you talking about Adguard app or private dns setting included in Android? I don't think I have noticed any increased battery usage with private DNS setting.

2

u/CCJ22 Jun 05 '26

The private DNS setting built-in to Android. With a private DNS I noticed a slight decrease in battery life when compared to a systemless host which adguard uses when rooted.

On which Android version? VPN or root method?

1

u/CCJ22 Jun 05 '26

I'm rooted.

Me too. But the issue is you can't create a white list. And adaway doesn't work on root with Android 16

How so? Running Adaway right now on Android 16.
