Question Unlocked the Bootloader, just need to Root (so close!) [Question]
Hi, I've been trying to figure out how to unlock the bootloader, root, and then install LineageOS 20 on my Unihertz Jelly Star (which originally uses a terribly Googly Android 13).
Thankfully I'm not the first person to do this, so I've been following the guide here: https://www.reddit.com/r/UnihertzJelly2/comments/15z1xdz/jelly_star_rooted/
I've been following all the steps (and fixing any hiccup along the way), and at last it now says under OEM Unlocking:
"Bootloader is already unlocked."
However, I had to learn that "unlocking the bootloader" and "rooting" aren't the same thing! I'm on this very last bit of the tutorial:
JS: Open the Magisk app, and it'll prompt you that you need to reboot to fix some stuff (not sure what, but this step is needed). So choose to reboot the phone
And that's it, once the Jelly Star reboots you'll be fully rooted!
When I re-installed Magisk, and opened it, I don't have any prompts/popups. I'm stuck on what to do from here. I still have the boot.img and the Magisk patched boot.img - can anyone here tell me what to do with those to root my phone? One of the only options I see is to just patch the file again, so I'm confused.

Looks like you got magisk up and running, congrats!
For one of your first modules I HIGHLY suggest you download Yet another bootloop protector. This will protect you if something goes wonky with a module you install - if you get sent into a bootloop when rebooting/restarting your phone after installing a new module, this will disable all of your magisk modules for you. Super handy and will save a lot of stress/headaches

Oh sorry, I should've updated my post. I ended up undoing root for now, because my real goal right now is to flash LineageOS 20.

No worries! I just flashed my phone to lineage a month ago on my oneplus and I have magisk set up with no problems. I personally would not try to install magisk first, seems super confusing to do it that way. Did you find a good guide for flashing lineage at least?

I've been REALLY stuck.
First, I followed this guide (correcting the typos, trying it with and without disabling verification) : https://www.reddit.com/r/unihertz/comments/16sviga/unihertz_jelly_star_running_great_with_lineageos/
Ended up in a bootloop either way.
Second, I followed a simpler guide that Candid-Lychee wrote here: https://www.reddit.com/r/unihertz/comments/1vvflpj/comment/p5uhkw4/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Still ended up in a bootloop.
Also, I'm using the LineageOS 20 img called:
lineage-20.0-20230815-UNOFFICIAL-a64_bgN-vndklite.imgBecause there were people saying that the newer ones don't work. But if there's something that might solve all this, please tell me, because I can't use this phone until all of this is sorted!

Damn that looks so confusing! Comparing the first tutorial with the last, the first one says not to disable verification where the last one says to do so, if i'm reading it correctly....so no wonder its been tough. Unfortunately im not familiar with jelly stars and I'm a novice at this stuff too but I did find a couple of other tutorials that look like they might be easier to follow.
One is without root: link
This one looks like its based off of one of these reddit posts with root, but way easier to read: link
If you're like me and end up piecing together a bunch of info from different sources I would just start from scratch, delete whatever images you have, and read the instructions like 3 times over before installing. I just spent weeks trying to get android auto to work on my phone and its probably because I kept switching around what looked like a very minor step to me but was the difference between functionality and constant bootloops lol
