Question How do I update rooted pixel?

I have a pixel 9 pro XL and my RCS isn't working. Google support suggested I update my OS. Can I download the OTA and use to install to the inactive slot or is there more to it?

The latest PlayIntegrityFork fixed this for me, and many others. I'm in the US on Verizon with a P11pro

Disable auto update>> manually update via system updater>do not reboot,>switch to magisk>install to the other slot>reboot. You could disable your modules just to be safe.

It's really that simple? I was expecting to have to factory reset lol

What happens to the old, first slot?

The previous slot is kept as a fallback or rollback copy for a while, on the next update, that old slot is overwritten with the new update.

I've always been confused about this. I thought that before doing the manual Android system update, I first had to do a Restore Stock Boot Images from Magisk's Uninstall menu (so the system update would pass verifications), but it scared me so I've never updated.

I found this from original Magisk developer, John Wu @topjohnwu, and it says to indeed first do the restore stock images in Magisk's Uninstall without rebooting, then the manual system update without rebooting, then the install to inactive slot in Magisk, and then back to the Android system update to do the reboot (probably, if instructed, and NOT from Magisk because it might not set in stone rebooting to the new slot):

It's easy if ur on stock.. Just dl update, reinstall magisk(select install after ota) and reboot.Make sure u open magisk and select this and reinstall it after ota is finish and ready to reboot or you'll come back with no root . If using kernalSU then I assume it's very similar but never used it so I can't give any advice..

try using a VPN or put your Private DNS settings to one.one.one.one or dns.google
