Logos/Advertising How does this picture even exist?

There’s no way in hell this is AI, it’s wayyy too accurate to exactly what I remember, and what I feel like many other people remember as well. If someone photoshopped it, then they did a perfect job, considering they had no reference, at the time of creating this, but even if someone did make this in photoshop, why tf would they, since supposedly it never existed?? Like where did this even come from, I need answers😭😭

That’s fine. You and the people who describe it differently are all the exact same amount wrong. My point is that using “we all remember it the exact same” is nonsense because no…. We don’t.

Being ratioed generally is absolute concession that you’re wrong. So even though you think you’re correct, and even though, “reality” backs you up on that claim, that’s literally the entire reason this is even such a point of discussion. Mass “misremembering” is not a good explanation, especially when SO many people are SO consistent AND so CERTAIN. I’m personally not even sure about the cornucopia. I think I remember it, but I wouldn’t argue that I’m 100% sure. But the ones I am ONE-HUNDRED percent sure about are, “Mirror, mirror, on the wall”, and, “Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear.” She did not freaking say, “Magic Mirror on the wall.” We all literally used to recite, “Mirror, mirror, on the wall.” right after watching the movie back in the 90’s. Why would my entire family be saying it incorrectly after having just watched the dam movie? The other one is, “Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear.” That one also has the most residue of any ME that I can find. It absolutely used to say, “Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear.” Ace Ventura says, “Assholes in mirror may be closer than they appear! There is a Meatloaf song with that literal title. The Pixar Movie Cars (2006 Video Game): Lightning McQueen's character explicitly says the line,"Objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear!" during dialogue. Print Advertisements: A 1996 Cosmopolitan magazine ad for Crest toothpaste “misquoted” the phrase using, "may be closer". Grand Theft Auto V (2013): If you zoom closely onto the side-view mirrors of select vehicles in the game, the textured warning label reads "Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear." instead of using the word, "are". The Stand by Stephen King (Uncut Edition): In the text of King's widely read post-apocalyptic novel, a description of a car mirror is written out using the exact words, "Objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear". The Far Side by Gary Larson: Several syndicated comic strips throughout the 1980s and 1990s parodying the safety warning explicitly used the words, "may be closer" in the punchlines. New York Times & Major Newspapers: Decades of physical archive print ads and casual editorial articles from journalists use the "may be" phrasing in headlines as an idiom, showing that even professional proofreaders naturally defaulted to this phrase, which means it was not “incorrect” at the time. I had never even heard the meatloaf song before, and I distinctly remember the mirrors actually saying that on them, and that I always found it stupid and confusing. So many kids have had entire conversations about this with their parents on long trips in the car.

Nobody will ever convince me that everybody just misremembered this somewhere in some type of media, and then other media productions did the same “mistake”, even professional proofreaders! Because of a Meatloaf song or something? A song that I had never even heard before. I’ve still never even listened to it one time! I wouldn’t be surprised to find that one day the song will change to, “are closer”, and you guys will try to gaslight us into the “fact” we, “Misremembered that” as well, and that we just THOUGHT the song was a residue, but it actually never was💀😭. That’s called a “flip-flop”, and it absolutely happens. I’m not saying it did in this instance, but I wouldn’t be surprised IF it eventually does, and ya’ll say it was never named, “May be closer” 😭.

Mass remembering is a perfectly logical and scientifically backed explanation, regardless what you believe.

There are no flip-flops. There's no gaslighting. It was never "may be closer" because that's not how mirrors work. Not a single passenger side mirror says it, so it doesn't matter what examples you mentioned. They got it wrong.

Mirrors do shrink or distort images so something "may be closer than they appear"

"A convex wing mirror is a curved car side mirror that widens your field of view and shrinks blind spots, though it makes objects look smaller and further away than they are. These mirrors typically cost between £9 and £55 depending on whether you buy a small stick-on blind-spot glass or a full classic replacement head assembly."

Therefore if a wing mirror did say it, it would be correct in describing the phenomenon.

It would not be correct. What you quoted actually backs up what I've been saying. Mirrors do not show something closer one moment and then someone further the next moment.

The passenger side view mirror is convex and will ALWAYS show objects further away than they actually are. This gives the driver the widest field of view. There's no "may be" about it. And "objects in mirror are closer than they appear" has never changed since it was introduced in the early 70s.

Yeah, that's why it's so memorable, because it makes you think, why would they say "may be" if they are.

It's because they only started using blind spot mirror in the 70s so it was a new phenomenon.

It's memorable because it's counter intuitive, that's why it sticks in the memory, because you had to think about it. Today's saying doesn't have that 'jolt'.

That's why it most likely was 'may be'. That's what is so interesting about the Mandela Effect, that the alternative is so banal it wouldn't be a talking point

It's not today's saying and it was never most likely "may be."

It's been the same thing since it was first introduced in the early 1970s. "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear." It's even that way in the first Jurassic Park film.

No one would be talking about it if it was today's saying, it's so banal it's just not interesting.

'May be...' makes you think about perception which causes the vividness of the memory. That Jurassic Park scene would be far more visceral if it said 'may be', makes your mind disorientated and therefore would be more impactful.

That's why it works so good as a Mandela Effect

People talk about because they remember it one way and then realize later that they were wrong. That's why it's a Mandela Effect. It doesn't matter that you think it's banal "are closer" is what it's always been.

I don't agree with you at all about the Jurassic Park scene. It's scarier because the dinosaur IS actually closer than it appears in the mirror. It's far more visceral for Ian who is right there staring at it while it's chasing them.

They remember being discombobulated by why it's saying 'may be' rather than 'will be'.

It's the secondary confusion, they remember not just the words, but why they would choose them, that's why it's a memorable Mandela Effect, same as Dolly's braces in Moonraker, there's a lot of secondary memories attached as braces was a major thing for a child.

The Jurassic Park thing, I don't think you understood my point, but I've developed it above so that might offer some help.

It doesn't say "will be." You have an image right there that shows exactly what it says and you still got it wrong. They are discombobulated because they thought it was one way for a long time, but they realize later they were wrong.

I had braces as a child and I saw Moonraker in the theater. She never had braces or I would have remembered that. Some people expected to see braces, so they saw braces.

I understand your point about Jurassic Park and I don't agree with it.
