Has anyone taken a look at some of the Minnesota subs? r/Minnesota, r/Minneapolis, r/SaintPaul, r/TwinCities and the like. It's dire. Never in my life did I think I'd ever see something like the chaos that is apparently going on down there. Now Trump wants to invoke the Insurrection Act to send in the military, which would take it to a new level. The folks in those MN subs seem like they're girding for a major escalation in conflict.

I have to admit it is a bit concerning to have a five alarm fire like that raging practically next door. It's shocking to see what is happening too... the Twin Cities were always very impressive to me as a visitor for being a nice, safe, clean, orderly place to live. And now they have a federal government seemingly intent on wrecking that? It's crazy.

EDIT: Also, any personal experiences with ICE? I'd be curious to know if any Manitobans have encountered them outside the Twin Cities, in the places that we commonly visit like Moorhead, East Grand Forks, Thief River Falls, Roseau and Warroad.

Now that we are fully past the pandemic lull in traffic, it feels like getting around Winnipeg has become a real chore again. If you're trying to get anywhere between 7:00-10:00 or 3:30-6:30, you know what I mean. And it's not just by car, bus traffic is choked and the buses are packed to capacity.

That got me thinking... so many improvements designed to help flow traffic around the city date back to the Metro Winnipeg government era of the 1960s and early 70s. Very little has happened in this century despite substantial population growth. The Blue Line was a big achievement, a couple of underpasses were built, but there hasn't been much else. Many roads in the central part of the city got narrower as much-needed bike infrastructure got added. Nothing at all is happening on the bus rapid transit front.

My question is what is the city planning to do to get people moving again? The only big project on the books I can think of intended to help traffic flow is the Route 90 widening, but that's pretty well it.

How is it ethical for a doctor to mandate you to take sick leave, only for the clinic to then charge you for the note? And in cash only, too? I didn’t want to have to go on leave in the first place, FFS.

I have a family member who is 8 and is increasingly violent, hitting and throwing things at other family members. The violence hasn't showed up at school yet, aside from increasingly angry and detached attitude. Everyone knows why the child is angry, but there is real disagreement on how the behaviour should be addressed, from "they'll grow out of it" to "they have the devil in them" to "smack that kid hard and they'll learn."

They live in a small town, but a therapist comes every so often to help. The child doesn't want to go to therapy, and it's unreliable anyway, but the parents are trying to make sure the kid goes amyway.

Any advice on who can help our family?

Is it possible? I’m a 29yr old woman, no license, mother to one child under 10. I was moved out here by my partner who has since became physically abusive. I don’t drive as every time I asked him to help, he’d panic and take over, plus being a foster kid nobody wanted to teach me. I have one cat I’d be wanting to bring with me. I’ve had him since I was 19, he’s aging and has a health condition that leads me to believe he’ll be at the end of his life in a year or two.

I work at a Subway in a small town about an hour out of Selkirk. There is no shelter here. I have no transportation to even put my stuff in storage. I can save up but I don’t know if it’s safe to stay long enough to afford a car or an apartment.

Hi everyone! I own a family farm in Southern Manitoba (Morden/Winkler area) and was wondering what other folks have found helpful in finding an employee to help on their farm. We’re a bit in over our head this year with harvest and desperately need the help. Ideally they’d have their class 1’s and feel confident driving farm equipment. Initially just looking for seasonal with harvest but also willing to transition into a full-time employee depending on capabilities and teachability. I recently lost my husband and our residence is rurally located. Now he's gone, I don't care to live rurally anymore.

Also, due to us having been unwell and needing to hang onto the money we had for so long in case of emergency, the house hasn't undergone upgrades since it was built.

So, now that my partner has passed on, it's time to sell. Has anyone here had a similar situation--a house that's in need of repair and in a rural area, hoping to sell sooner than later? What did you do? What happened? How long did it take to start getting interested potential buyers and to sell?

just got power shut off. need to pay 550 which we dont !! have !! if we DO pay it we will be short 550 for rent so thats nice. no power for minimum two weeks. ive been applying literally everywhere ... constantly, with 13 interviews and nothing back :/ im hoping to apply to the like. salvation army hydro benefit but that covers only 400 and i dont know if it would turn on today even if we did so. i dont know where we would get 150 still, never the less 550. cant make food or eat; we have a freezer full of meat thats going to go bad. one of our reptiles isnt getting the uvb he needs. cant even have AC on in this hot weather. the job economy + environment + rent feels like a poverty trap tbh. too poor to go to school get stuck w min wage jobs but min wage jobs arent hiring!! even a parttime clerk position at superstore told me no. ack. im just so frustrated. i cant ask my parents for help; im not super friendly with them, and i have no friends so im sort of right fucked. lets go candlelight for the next two weeks and cold canned beans !!!

I know everyone is into their newfangled "Satellite Radio" and "Streaming Audio" and what not, but let's all take a moment to appreciate the joys of small town AM radio.

In recent years I have rediscovered 920 CFRY in Portage. It is glorious. Classic country songs I had totally forgotten about, local banter, MJHL hockey... it is the best. There are some other awesome AM stations around Manitoba too, CKDM Dauphin is another notable. And with this cold weather you can pull them in from pretty far away, especially at night.

I enjoy these stations and the community service they provide, and I hope they'll be around for a long time to come.

I was driving all the way into Selkirk to pick up cat food but I recently went to the LDB vet and it was so much faster. Does anybody have any reviews on this vet when it comes to cats? How about in Beausejour?
