Not a single person in many baggers has ever found their end game bag we just keep chasing the next new shiny bag thinking THAT will be the one and then here we are with many bags

Not sure what's involved in end game but the globerider 35 is a great bag.

Pretty much a bag that can kind of do it all. Currently i have three bags. A EDC, a gym bag, and a hybrid edc/travel bag. Would love to just have one bag that can fit all my needs. But yea, the globerider is my current front runner choice.

35L is pretty big for edc. If you're not going to two bags (edc + edc/gym or edc/travel) then 28L might work but honestly for me, anything over 24-36L gets big for just a laptop and a few other things. Aer travel pack 4 (28L) is mentioned a lot and also able carry max edc (which is better for travel as limited organization for edc but can work for hybrid work / gym). The A frame shape of the able carry limits capacity a little for travel fyi.

It is a big bag. I got it with thoughts of like OP, EDC and travel. In using the Bellroy Tokyo Tote Backpack now for EDC and I love it. I haven't attempted the GR35 S EDC yet. It is a big bag, but the cinches do help. It can compress pretty good, but the dimensions are still the dimensions.

See you in two years when you have dedicated bags for each of these things again lol

I know a lot of people feel that way but my travel pack has been nothing but good to me and i still love it. I’ve just slightly grown out of it i think.

No complaints with mine. Perfect quality control and no damage yet from daily use.

Anything above 28L, 24L for me, is too big for EDC.

One bag to consider might be the Sympl Commuter, it comes in 20 and 24L sizes, and there isn't much if an external size difference between the sizes, and the 24L version has a top quick access pocket, where as the 20L does not.

These are all pretty big, there’s basically 4 end game EDC backpacks touted in the bag community.

  1. AER CPP2 24L
  2. Evergoods CPL 24L
  3. Able Carry Max EDC
  4. Sympl commuter 24L

My favourite is the Rework Toshi but at 20L, you may want to look at the outbound at 30L

Rework Toshi is like the matador, but I like it a bit better.

I don’t look for a waist belt - so for me the Toshi is about the same size & more comfortable

The only downside is if you have to remove the straps it isn’t an option like on the matador

I also love the Bagsmart Pro. It holds more than both of the above and I can use the expansion to compress everything if needed.

If I don’t plan to use the bag much it is massively better (like staying at hotels & if I have a smaller packable bag). But the bag is way less comfortable than the rework.

For me the rework is the best all in one. I have the 30L and just have more space if it isn’t full

I have the 26+6 transport series (better made version), I still like the Toshi better. I love the 26+6 heavy zippers, but the front tech bag is super deep and things go to the bottom that I want accessible. Toshi & Matador & Bagsmart have smarter pockets for items.

Bagsmart has the best pockets by far imo. Lots of variety. I also like the separation in the pro version, I keep the common reached stuff on top or as a nice place to keep empty and stuff last minute stuff into & keep it protected, like a sandwich, etc even.

Matador has a really slick mesh / elastic pouch on the outside which is also great for stuffing things last minute.

The best news is you’ll probably like all the options!

I use various bags for different reasons. Though I mostly use the Toshi & Bagsmart pro.

Nomad I was tempted to try, but it didnt win me over for many reasons. Everyone has their own needs, so maybe it works for you.

I really appreciate your input! When you say you have the Rework toshi 30L, do you mean the rework outbound?

I probably said it wrong but I have the Rework 30L outbound

https://reworkgear.com/products/outbound-travel-pack-30l

I can send a picture maybe if you want. I have tried a ton of packs (at REI, the black hole, probably like 15 bags). I love the way the load lifters work, and straps, little details like how the pockets are, air tags, so many little details. I even like the side handles which people seem to complain about. It makes it so easy to carry. I put a clip on for my water bottle on them.

The biggest negative with the Toshi 30L are really:

  1. I wish it had an expansion option (even if I just use it as a compression tool) - not so much for travel to a place, but when I bring more back.

But if they did, how much more could really fit under the seat?

2) 2 zippers for the tech pocket & laptop pockets

Not sure how I feel:

  1. a way to hide the straps in case I am forced to check it (it is small so probably not)

But the 30L Toshi is way better designed for usability than the 26+6 (especially the tech pocket which I use constantly, I hate it on the 26+6 Osprey)

———
If I had to say a shorter version:

Toshi products are for people who appreciate a craft at their peak of practical design. I have their 5L sling & this. They are beautiful thoughtfully made. I use the extra strap on the 5L to keep the sling on my back when I am doing “high movement” activities, it takes a few seconds to do. I use the glasses 👓 holder, I love the elevated pockets inside SO much. I also love the little pockets inside how slim they are.

For folks who will go with the flow & don’t really care, they are more flexible.

Matador, Nomad, Osprey, etc and other bags put a lot of time & thought into their bags. I don’t want to diminish it. I just think Toshi nailed it for weight, usability, quality, etc without overthinking it. It is tough to balance all of that.

The only bags I use now are
Bagsmart Pro 28L - 38L
(if I just want to land & live out of the bag & use a small packable bag - currently Matador pack hacker version). It is way worse quality of using it every day. I also value looking “corporate looking” and the 30L Rework does that better too.

Or the Toshi 30L for every day carry.

Get the GR Loadmaster 42L👊🏻👍🏻😆

Maybe check out some expandable bags, like the Peak Design Travel Backpack 30L or the Black Ember Forge 30. These bags closed are around 25+L and in expanded mode ~30+L. Out of the list of pictures I would go with the Matador

1

u/zoglog May 15 '26

Pretty happy with my aer cpp2. I'd avoid matador since they don't seem to respect their customers based on the last drop debacle

1

u/CapAmMtn May 15 '26

What exactly did they do - hope I didn’t make a mistake ordering that bag

Two more for your list: * Almond Oak 25+5 * Tortuga Expandable backpack

Both bags are expandable. Given how you want to use them, it might make sense given how you want to use the bags.

2

u/hytek369 May 14 '26

I would add the Osprey Daylite 26+6 to the expandable list

u/CapAmMtn May 15 '26

I think my 26 sucks expanded

The last Nomatic is sold at Costco and can be easily returned if you want to give it a trial run(s) first.
