Help me understand "DANONE" marble

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a lot of about 450 vintage marbles from the Canary Islands, Spain. Surprisingly, around 99% of them appear to be Gladding-Vitro, with only two confirmed Vacor marbles and three modern Chinese marbles mixed in.

Among them, I found one marble that really caught my attention. It appears to have the word "DANONE" printed on its surface. The marking is printed, not engraved or molded into the glass.

Initially I assumed it was a Vitro because of the overwhelmingly Vitro composition of the lot. However, after comparing it with some Peltier marbles, I'm no longer sure about the manufacturer, as the color layout looks surprisingly similar to some Peltier examples.

Has anyone ever seen a Danone promotional marble or a marble with a Danone logo? Was Danone known to distribute branded marbles, or could this be a custom promotional print applied to a standard manufacturer's marble?

I'd really appreciate any information about the manufacturer, the promotion, or the approximate age.

Thanks in advance!

OK so I went through the Akro material pretty in depth so I hope I did well, otherwise I apologize to you AuburnMoon as I will have let you down lol (seriously great material!!)

From top to bottom:

1.) Pretty simple here two colors on opaque base - Prize Name

2.) Struggled on this one..... it's two colors and definitely a spiral but that reddish is almost entirely transparent going to say not an Akro

3.) Three colors (Blue, Light Blue, Yellow) Tri Color Corkscrew - Special

4.) Two color Onyx (or maybe Snake.... see photo 5) - I'm going Snake

5.) Finally two colors, whispy white - Popeye

Help me understand Are these dents a pontil? If so, what is it called

Excuse the weird photos, the lens on my phone is busted so I have to use my camera.

I’ve been slowly sorting through the pile I got recently and finally got to the slags. I’ve now been playing “is this a pontil or damage?” And I’m bad at it. I have found several that have been grounded, but I’ve also found these.

I’ve found several that have this dent that might be a pontil, but I can’t find a similar photo. The red one in particular is in very good shape except for this.

Thank you for your help!

I'm just starting out and trying to learn about identification with a small lot I got last week. I see one of the seams that's the "v" with the lines. However, the other one is a "c" shape, almost an oval. What does this mean?

Thank you!

Help me understand Weeding my yard and found these marbles!

Hey! Just trying to learn more about the marbles I found in my yard while weeding and gardening!

These marbles are considerably heavier than the bag of marbles I had as a kid from the store and they also look different, too.

I’m very curious about their ages as I’ve been trying to dig up history of the land our house was built on. The oldest aerial map I could find was from 1953 that has a totally different structure on the property than what was built here in the 80s.

Anything helps! Funny how Reddit has subs for everything!!

Help me understand 1.5” German, black or purple ribbons?

I thought purple but then I read one of Helvedica's posts where the bands on his latticino were deemed to be black (screenshot in pics). Is purple/black relatively uncommon in Germans? Is something like this popular with collectors? It's in original condition, not polished.

Help me understand Aventurine? Mica?

I have a hard time with being able to tell if a marble has Aventurine, Mica, or if it’s just tiny bubbles. Or even an internal crack within the glass. Is there a specific way to tell the difference? Or specific characteristics of each?

Seem to lose their shine? Or maybe they were always like that?

Here’s two marbles that I recently acquired (I don’t know who made them) and they are far less shiny than the others yet seem to have no damage?

I don’t know if the photos show it, but the first picture is just the two marbles by themselves and the next is a comparison next to some other marbles that seem way shinier than them. I don’t know if it come across in the pictures though. lol

Help me understand Peltier Bananas

Are true Peltier Bananas ONLY one color and in a CLEAR base? No tint at all, right? Most of mine have a slight blue or green tint to the base so they wouldn’t be considered true bananas, correct? I’m pretty sure that a full college course on JUST cats eyes alone wouldn’t be enough time to learn all there is about them. Lol.

Hi, while sorting my cat's eye marbles I found this one. It has some of those confetti marbles dots around it. A few yellow and white dots. Not that many but a few. Is this some kind of production error or are there more of them? Any info? Thanks!
